I think it would be catastrpohic to mix the genres together. I hope thats prevented, sorry guys.

who wanted to mix them together?
Also something that needs to be done is preventing the 4.00 songs with one or two votes from filling up the popular genres' first and second page lists. There are tons of good songs slightly under 4.00 who don't get exposure because of this.

To get around this, a new voting system should be set since there aren´t so many ppl actually voting in the AP.
Ppl would have to actually get awarderd one way or another. Experience points is a good thing...
Perhaps one should be able to choose freely between voting for flash and/or audio to rack up scores???
This might draw slight attention from the flash portal, but to be honest i dont think it really would...
That would incorporate the AP with the FP, when it comes to levels, but perhaps its best to separate them alltogether?
The only thing I wanna see is that the user has control whether he wants to edit his comments, remove songs, etc.
First, they should make a deletion option for songs in case an artist wants to remove/replace something. They should allow artists to edit their responses. Profiles should keep track of reviews made for audio submissions. They should definitely increase the limit to AT LEAST 5 MB, maybe even 10. Add in a panel like flash reviews, where you can vote on whether or not a review was helpful/offensive, which should in turn go towards increasing your whistle level. Same with reporting/flagging audio submissions. Also, they should add extra categories, like Euro-dance, Goa, Death metal and other various forms, etc. (I noticed a lot of artists submit crappy Euro music to the techno or trance catergories.) Finally, there should be guidelines for what qualifies for a certain category, and people submitting content not belonging to the proper category should be banned from submitting for a month each time they fuck up.
The end.
I reckon that when you go to a genre's page, the most recent tracks in that genre should come up by default. Say, at least 20-30.
Secondly, let votes be tracked and able to be viewed by the audio page administrators. Any vote of 2 or below wil be identified and then sourced back to the person who will have a list of their complete voting history for the last month or whatever attached to them behind the scenes. The administrator will then check to see if they are a serial down-voter.
Since there are only about 30-40 new tracks a day on the site, I don't see this as being a time-consuming process. Perhaps 20 minutesa day.
Another thing we need is a 'competition page' with regular music production contests. There would also be wonderful, wonderful prizes! For example frisbees, pogs, yo-yo's and subscriptions to feminist newsletters.
I'm definitely in agreement with ideas to bar the same address from downloading a track more than say, twice. That flaw really lets this place down. ( 2,500-10,000 downloads, <5 reviews...not cool ) Actually, anything less than 100 reviews for this amount of downloads would be highly unrealistic which gives us some indication of the scope of manipulation on this site.
Also, in a users list of received reviews for a track, there should be a button alongside 'respond to review' that links to the reviewers most recent track. This would make it easier to return the favour of writing a review.
I don't know how popular this idea will be, but I get the feeling that deleting every song older than 1 year will keep the audio portal moving forward. Or put songs older than 1 year in a seperate archive.
And last but no least, I am getting **cking tired of hearing lo-fi versions of Paragons loops on the audio portal front-page. Why not have a bit more variety there, or perhaps a merciful silence. I can't bear it......!!! He doesn't even come here anymore, why are we stuck in the past like this? We should put a Sugababes loop up there, and copyright be damned! :P Better yet, put up my track "We Love Candy" that's taken the site by storm as the front-page song.
Since I use the audio portal to look for songs to use, I say there should be more catagories, or even sub catagories, to fine-tune what the flash artists are looking for. Especially the game music section, it's pretty hard to find original game music seeing how most of them are remixes of popular game themes.
There should be a separate cathegory for remixes.

remixesis is basicly not allowed.
You might remix an artists you know, or have permission from using his/hers samples, but other than that, its a big no-no on ng.

How about making "ONE" list with all the good and realisable things and then email it to mindchamber or tom? I've read lots of good ideas but as further this thread goes, it will be harder to filter things out cause we discuss here as well, what's ok!
Self-quoting for the win! So what about the list now guys!? Good idea, bad idea? Other ideas? Suggestions?
Heres what I think the voting system should be like.
Simple
The voting system should be shot, and replaced with this. The score will be based on reviews and divded in half to fit somewhere in a 0-5 range. but the amout of reviews and length of them will have more weight on your score and who's number one in the ambient section you so disire.
XP

Well go ahead and make a list if you want to, i see one problem with a list at the moment tho; we still really do not know what the admins want with the portal, meaning loads of ideas might be unnessesary to put in a list. At the same time its always a good idea to shorten things out, specially if you want to send an e-mail or whatever to administrators for feedback or the like.
What im basicly saying here is that it might take a while to complete the list and make it just, but that it might come in handy if done right :)
However, i really hope that admins read this list and actually follow the discussion some idea have brought with it.
It is still "we" who represent what the massess feel (because the massess have the possibility to suggest things here :) so therefore they should at least read through this thread... I hope :)
Maybe just put the important issues down on a list and worry about the smaller things later? For example, the voting system, i'd say thats the one thing that needs changing the most

I don't think that the admins will read the hole thread and I don't think they have time for that as well. A problem tho. Who's making the list and how to judge what's coming on it and what's not? Ideas gentleman?
Ah sry, I better had copy and pasted my hole comment. >__>
Well, I guess a couple of things on khuskan's and your list (rucklo) represent the very important things that need to be changed. I thought of making a "judgelist", where we list a couple of things that where mentioned before and then give a ranking what should be done asap and what could be done in the future.
How does that sound?
Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I made a post earlier complaining about the rating system.. (read it here: http://newgrounds.co../topic.php?id=532394
) Basically I was gonna suggest a fairer way of voting, possibly that the voter would be forced to leave a review before the placed their vote? this might limit the number of unfair 0's that noobs insist on placing. Just a thought.
Also, the "Log in to vote" system is very temperamental and maybe fixing it would encourage more people to vote.

You cannot leave a review if you aren't logged in, so if you wouldn't have to log in to vote, and the whole idea where you have to review everytime you voted was implemented, it would screw everything up. If I had to go with one of those ideas, I'd say stick with the first.
experience points for voting on audio, keeping it at 10 points a day, but with 1 point for each vote on an audio submission.
The rules for submitting audio here on NG are a little vauge. There was a discussion in this thread, but my case was proven wrong.
However, I have a new question wich I will put here, in hope of an administrator to catch eye on it;
What if I REMOVE my songs, what will happen to the FLASH submission that have used my music then?
Obviously, since I took my music away, the rules shall not apply anymore!
What I´m about here is simply a clearer and more detailed version of the Rules for submitting music to the AP.
I agree with everything in Khuskan's first post on pg. 1.
Also,
1) fix the "top 50 of all time" lists so that songs with just one "5" vote don't automatically become #1. Have a certain vote minimum or something before they're allowed to go up there.
2) PLEASE do not assume that flash authors only want to use loops!!! Does the music that's used in Adam Phillips' Brackenwood flashes loop? No, it doesn't. It's a lot of fun to make an animation that fits with a non-looping piece of music - one that has a beginning and an end, just like a film. Loops are limited in this regard. The idea that flash authors only want to use loops is ridiculous - all types of music should be encouraged in the audio portal.
how about FAVORITE AUDIO ARTIST slots in your profile that relate to NG audio? and have the higher ups pay more attention to the audio portal and maybe give out more prizes and such. the audio portal has come a lot way, i give them credit, but it still is nothing compared to the flash portal :(

HOUSEMASTER: "OHH FUK!!! TEH COMMUNITY CHEZZT FORCLOZD ON MA BEEEEEEF JEERRRKKEEE!!! j0 GOZ 2 JAYL!!!"
Thisone doesnt only go for the Audio side onf NG;
How about a list of moderators, and everyone who have any authority doing like review banning, who clears the pnding Audio lists and so on?
This way it would be easy to link to the correct page and not just say "e-mail wade", wich in some cases could be wrong.
ill post this in the evolution thread as well...
