Eh, donating blood freaks me out. Well, actually, needles going into me freaks me out. But a big round of applause to all of you that do donate.

Real nice oscar, give all those poor people HIV from your dirty blood.

Meh. I wish I could join, but even though I used to donate a lot in the past (mostly thrombapheresis donations, which you can do every two weeks in theory at least; in practice, your yield will start to drop if you do it that often, so they'll tell you to wait for a bit before the next donation after a while), and I actually have some rare blood factor, too (I actually got called several times asking whether I could come in and make a donation ASAP), but...
...but unfortunately, they discriminate against everyone who's not heterosexual (I'm bi, myself), so ever since I've had sex with partners of both sexes, I can't donate anymore. After all, I might be OMGHIVpositive.
Idiots.
In any case, once they stop treating people like that and accept that my risk to get infected with HIV is not higher than that of anyone else (in fact, it's probably lower, as I don't exactly sleep around a lot), I'll be happy to start donating again.

And we'll be waiting for it :)
I don't have AIDS/ HIV or anything like that...even when it's in rexco's twisted mind...

Neither do I. :P I actually even go so far as to get tested everytime I have a new partner, which I guess is more than 99.9% of all heterosexuals do, but I'm still not good enough for them.
:/

yeah, when they ask you all those questions, one of them is "have you ever had sex with a man, even once?"
i'm heterosexual, but it still seems kind of off that just having sex with a man would make it impossible for you to donate. i mean, i'm sure there's just as high of a chance of getting HIV from typical sleeping around with women as with men, yes, it started with gay men in the 80s, but it's since spread into heterosexual couples as well, which is why it spreads so quickly. because we are basically told that it's a disease in homosexuals, so we dont worry about it when we have sex with opposite sexes.
Im sad, i donated less than 8 weeks ago and wont be able to donate on the 14th =(

Don't worry :)
Do it later... it's always good o donate even if it's not blood donors day... It's like celebrating Xmas every 2 months...wouldn't that cool? :)
I suggest if yas have any questions to check this site out http://www.americasb..pageID=13#age_limits
gives the age limits in the states and information about how much how long to recover etc...
States- Legal at 17 16 in some states
Canada - Legal at 18 Done after 70
UK- 17-60 70 if you are healthy and pass an exam
How about chronic stuff like asthma or allergies? Are you allowed to donate if you have something like that?
Hey, I'm donating blood tomarrow the 13 right after my college sumer class. Can that still count for the blood donor crew? Also, can I show prof of my donation with a scan of my donors card or does it has to be a piccture.
also note, searching for a scanner on campus. So it kinda sux for those that don't have a scanner or any other means of showing prof that they donated.

The only allergy they are concerned about is if you are allergic to Iodine. You may want to mention the allergies and the asthma just so they have a heads up in case you have an attack of either. Not entirely sure if it will bar you from donating blood, but as far as I know, its not really a factor.
I donate every time that the Canadian Blood Services hold a clinic. Unfortunately, I'm not eligable again until the start of July, so I'll be sure to donate then in lieu of the 14th.
So, sign me up for this little crew of yours. I'll let you know the next time I give some of the red stuff.
I think I better go to the doctor if my blood isn't ok.It's disguisting.

Amazing :)
Welcome on board, Ted :D

I'm donating tommorow. I wanna try a apheresis machine but they don't have one close to where I live.

Here we have one... I thought that donating platelets would be something awful, but I enjoyed it :)

I don't actually have an allergy, I was just wondering. And my asthma didn't show up since quite a while.
So, our first Blood donor day has come :)
Yes!
I'll try to take some pics (And I said "I'll try" because I'm not sure if you're allowed to take pics inside the blood donors room)
Good luck to everyone!
* Time to hit the sack *
I'm boycotting red cross for their lifelong ban of male homosexuals and people with tattoos and piercings, whilst almost completely ignoring people who get unsafe, contaminated drugs and sleep with dirty hookers etc.
I mean, sure, theres hould be a period between getting a tattoo or a piercing, or having unprotected sex before you should be able to donate (so you can be sure you haven't caught anything), but for life? No thanks.
ARRRGGGG!!!!!
I got turn down yesterday by the blood bank. Apparently when I went to Costa Rica for spring break, I've became ineligible to give blood for one whole year. This is the first time that I've been ever turn down. Does that mean that I'm also ineligible to join the blood donor’s crew?
I'm back from my first Blood donors day donation :)
This is the donation certificate I got after the donation.
And this is my arm pumping some blood out :)
I'm feeling a little tired right now, so I'll take a snack and then I'll take a nap... See you later!

Nice :)
I, unfortunately, couldn't donate today, seeing as I donated too recently to do so.
<3 to all who donated.

Just let me know (All colors for the glowing are available)
Hello guys. I'm not looking to join because I'm 14 and not legal to donate blood yet. But I do have a question.
I am scared by needles. I have to look away most times and usually I make the pain more drastic than it actually is. Any advice? I want to donate blood someday, but I don't want to scrap my pants while doing it.

Okay, I donated but I don't have any pictures. They told me that I can't a blood donor's card thingy in a few weeks though, I guess I could scan that one.

Being afraid of needles is pretty normal :)
I started working with the fear at them when I was in medicine school...We had to use needles on each other to practice XD
The best way to lose fear of them is working with them... Buy a needle, use it in an Orange (It's texture is similar to the real skin) just be careful...
Have you ever thought on get a tatoo or a piercing? After I got my piercing I lost all fear to needles :)

Great man!
:)
What really matters is the fact that you actually did it :D
We'll wait for the scanned card...
