Oh no. I couldn't stand the pain, and they would only be fun for a couple of years or so. I also would like to have a family one day and it would look weird to see their dad with a skull on fire on his left arm. And for the piercings, I don't like ear rings belly rings, or anything below the belt. Hell, I don't want anything above the belt either!

Okay Ozcar, you will probably find this funny, and I still do today, but this may be where I first got my fear of needles. I was about 6 and went to get my blood drawn for the first time I could remember. The doctor's had a new nurse on staff, and just my luck, she was the one who gave me the shot.

Every thing was going well until she pulled out the needle. I cried and stuff, being six and all, but here's the funny part. SHE MISSED MY VEIN THREE F***ING TIMES!!!! She put the needle in my arm and went "Whoops, that's not right. Sorry." I was screaming and everything, and calmed down. Then she tried again, she missed. By that time, I almost fell unconscious from the screaming and the pain. She tried again, and I will always remember this.

She said "Third times the charm," and it seemed like she literally stabbed me with the needle! And she missed!!! My parents, fed up with the new nurse, got a more experienced doctor and I got an okay shot. It was alright in the end, mostly because of the lolly pops they gave away. Free stickers too.

So yeah, I may give blood one day. I'd like to help people out. :)

?

Back here, if you have a piercing or a tattoo, you're banned from donating blood (risk of blood transmitted diseases, even though the Body-Mods in Finland are one of the cleanest in the world)

I don't take revenue from my profile.

That seem incredibly unfair, it's a risk that should be accounted for, say a period of not being able to donate afterwards, but Not for life, that's just silly.

Not at all :)

If you got it in the last year: yes... but after a year you can donate :)

I had a blood drive at my high school a month or so ago. Im 16, and with parents consent, I was allowed to donate blood. Different state laws maybe.

I would, But I made my crappy sig, and have kept it for at least 3-4 months ;D

I wouldnt mind having a glowy siggy... mostly because mine looks so dull and boring... its so sad! lol

If you really feel up to it, and if you can even fit it in as a sig, might be cool to have it bright orange or bright greenish... somethin easy to see. Maybe red if it would look any good

Response to Blood donors crew 2006-07-03 00:26:37

hah, I got a card in the mail. It said I was in the Gallon Club for the blood center.

This must be something relatively new because I know I've given more than 1 Gallon of Blood...

Well, I have a picture of my second blood donation I did in my life time. I did this donation today at about 3:30 p.m. from a Hoxworth mobile donor unit. I was real nice inside a bus converted to a hospital. I did just fine, and here's the picture of the bandage. Fortunately, I didn't bruse at all.

I'm actually glad to see this crew is doing well.

I'm still trying to find out if I can donate blood or even platelets, because of my condition. (You're more likely to bump into a cow on the streets of NYC, than get a straight-forward answer from a hospital Administrator).

But there is a blood donation center on the same block as my new job. So as soon as I get an honest answer.......

Ok Ozcar, I want in. I'm 18 and have donated 6 times (You can donate when you turn 17 in Kansas).

Heres my card:

I also should have enclosed my blood card a lot sooner. Here's my donor card to prove without a doubt that I donated blood at all.

This bandage looks reaaaaaaaly weird for a blood donation. Are they doing things right in hoxworth?

Yeah, they have an awesome staff that does the blood work. All (or at least most) of the newer med students are from University of Cincinnati. They get great training before they start handling blood donors. What's nice is the fact that they use a small amout of my blood for their educational research back at UC.

And yeah, I used a bit more clear tape on the latex bandage since it was about to fall off. I took it off when I woke up yesterday morning. And if you don't mind, look at Hoxworth's website, it's somewhat like Red Cross, only far more local in the greater Cincinnati area.

I can't donate blood, anemia.

I hope to be able to eventually, but with a hemoglobin level as low as mine it is not advised.

No, according to Wikipedia, AB- is the rarest blood type, about 1% of americans have that type of blood.
