The only time I ever blocked ads is when those stupid ones with the constant sound ran on a flash page, and those were the only ones I blocked. Seriously, there's no reason at all to block advertisements that just sit and stagnate off to the side of the page, doing you absolutely no harm.

Response to Blocking NG ads 2006-02-15 18:42:49

I like the ads, I am entertained by the bright pretty colors and flashing lights.

Response to Blocking NG ads 2006-02-15 18:43:32

The ads never really bother me, I dont get any pop ups. Im fine with the ads, espically if its helping NG stay alive.

Response to Blocking NG ads 2006-02-15 18:46:46

I have Norton blocking all ads so there isn't really any secret to that.

Ads are cool? Banners, on a website, you find them cool, you find them actually cool?

Wow, get a life.

Keep up the revenue. Ads on the forums are shit cheap, if I ever get money, I might buy some.

Response to Blocking NG ads 2006-02-15 19:04:24

Yeah. For some reason some of the ads are blocked, but I click on those just so you guys can get free beer (NG expensive to run my butt)

Response to Blocking NG ads 2006-02-15 19:05:02

Now, since you made a topic about it... I bet you alot of people will now all of a sudden block your ads... I won't though cause the banners don't bother me at all.

As you admin people keep pointing out, those who visit the forums are a small fraction of Newgrounds' audience, and the site gets hundreds of thousands (?) of unique visitors every day.

Now, if some of the regulars keep blocking the ads (and talk about it on the forums), does it really do that much harm? These people are probably the ones that ignore them anyways, so is it really that bad if they block them completely if they find them annoying to their eyesight? The masses will keep seeing the ads, and they will keep clicking the links.

For the record, I have NOT blocked any NG ads, nor do I find them particularly obtrusive. I just want to defend people's right to not watch ads if they don't want to.

LOL a guy named ad-blocker just posted a detailede thread abouit how to block ads with FF. The thread's gone now though. It was made while this topic was on the front page. I think people are starting to rebel.... retards, rebelling against the best site on the internets.

Hey Wade someone by the name of Ad-blocker_-Dawkins- is review spamming. He's keeps reviewing about how to use the ad blocker. I think you may want to check it out.

I said the same thing but I got swarmed with NO OMG WRONG U WNA PAY 4 UR ACCOUNT LOL I DONT.

I understand that it runs the site, but ffs, almost NOBODY visits the forums when you compare the number of people that regularly use the BBS to the number of the people who visit NG normally. Yes they can use the searchbar, but you need the correct spelling and spacing as well as other things. Besides, being that mods and admins routinely lock things for people lacking the use of the searchbar, doesn't that say something?

I barely block any anyway, but when I do it's for legit reasons, like the ads such as "SHOOT THE IPOD NANOS AND GET YOURSELF ONE" that randomly pull my cursor in as I scroll up. If it weren't for those and those ones with audio I wouldn't feel a need to block ads (or in some cases remove them altogether).

I don't mind the ads. Infact, I clicked on a runescape ad a long time ago, and I'm glad I did. The ads actually introduced me to a really fun game, among other things.

HALLELUJAH!
About time Wade! I'm fucking tired of every single noob that just rants about the ads, they just don't guess that they give Newgrounds some extra cash.

Plus, given that he has over 5,600 exp points, over 15,000 B/P's, and has contributed a lot of good Flash, threatening to terminate his account for this would be seriously overreacting.

So by your logic if you were running a business and had a really great employee, but one day you find him taking money out of the register and putting it in his pocket, or giving his friends free merchandise, both of which are stealing, you wouldn't fire his ass?

This is what Rupee did, he was telling people how to steal from Newgrounds.com. Newgrounds.com is a career for Tom, myself, LilJim, Tim, and our staff artists, and they depend on Newgrounds to put food on the table. So I take shit like this very seriously and very personally. Anyone who tries to steal from Newgrounds, no matter how big or little, is instantly on my shit list and they should be glad they are only get a ban as I'd love to do much worse to them.

Honestly, I used to not give a shit about the pop ups and what not. They were irritating, but I just dealt with them, until about a year ago they started containing spyware and that's when I really became adamant about blocking the popups.

He didnt steal from you, hes preventing you from making money. If he broke in to your house, and took your tv, that would be stealing. Hes not taking away. Anyways I still dont agree what what he has done though, but use a better choice of words next time instead of calling everyone a theif.

Blocking Ads isn't stealing from you or the people making the ad... honestly you advertise for companies that blatantly put spyware on your computer (those stupid smiles that now talk) half you ads point back to fuckin NG (Get NG on your psp for example)... some of them still talk about fullfilling Hentai fantisies... yeah right... and the rest advertise an RPG made for Runescape 10 year olds... if you are upset about people blocking the ads get more interesting sponsors, also ad block comes in useful for blocking peoples sigs for example that Goddamn Oposites attract one with the two men ontop of each other...

Well eventually you will start having to offer payable membership because advertisments won't keep raking in the money like they have for the past couple of years.

Look at television, you have to sit through 3-5 minutes of ads every 10-15 minutes of a show. On Newgrounds there is just an ad embedded into the page. Is it really that big of a deal that people need to find ways to block it?

TV comercials dont install harmful files to your computer. Niether do they yell HEEEELLLLLLLLLOOOO?!?!?!?! at you and disturb your family. I'd understand if these ads were harmless, but my computer has to remove over 13 profiling cookies and other spyware threats every time I visit your site. And at least get some unharmful, appealing, non scammish ads when you advertise or people will go out of their way to help people blocking the ads.

Are you talking about tracking cookies? These aren't malicious, even though a lot of the adaware and spyware programs make them look that way. They often simply tell the ad scripts that you've already seen a certain ad and not to serve it to you again. By clearing out these cookies you are probably going to end up having more ads be served to you.
