Most of the banners are advertising different parts of newgrounds, how does that make the site money?

Log in and click log out. You will be directed to the log in page where you can activate the remember info feature.

For some reason on my computer the banner is always blocker.Dunno how if happen, I think its just cause I have a savage pop up blocker.

Response to Blocking NG ads 2006-02-15 15:08:35

I agree. I mean, NG ads are great because they're hardly ever in the way, and you just come to stop noticing them after a while. Plus occasionally some cool stuff is advertised.

Only on the BBS parts I believe. They sell ads for that part for cheap anyway. It shouldn't be a big deal. On the front page and portals they have the banners there.

99.9% of the people on this BBS... but that's neither nere nor there

JackPhantasm is an idiot in the extreme.

Now about them banners. NG's banners are frikken clean as hell... the only ones that aren't are in the 'adult' areas... so if you are bitching about ads ... well those are probably the ones that bug you.... maybe you should worry more about the type of crap you intentionally look at.

YAY CARTOON BOOBIES!

I'm gonna click a few ads now

Well... I know since I got I dont want my account deleted... , I`ve been blocking all ads just to see how well it actually works... since then I know how damaging it is, and how bad it hurts ME when people block my ads...

On another note, there IS a way to make it impossible to block...
Well, put them in an iframe, which supports the rest of the layout. Basically if there is nothing inside the iframe, or the iframe is blocked, the whole layout collapses.
Give it a go :)

Response to Blocking NG ads 2006-02-15 15:16:19

Reasonable.

As long as there are no adds that make sounds (like that smilie one), I promise not to block them, and might even give them the occasional click.

Response to Blocking NG ads 2006-02-15 15:18:26

I have no problem with the ads, the thing that bugged me was the new header being twice the height of the old one, that + the ad banner was taking up half of my browser page, it knocked everything else further down the page and just didn't look good to me.

i think newgrounds is a pretty cool guy. eh makes falsh and doesn't afraid of anything.

Maby a warning would have been nice seing as he wasn't breaking any rules at the time.

Blocking popups is one thing, but blocking banners is going to far.

I really can't see how it's any different.

Popups are widely blocked these days and aren't an effective way to raise revenue.

So why have them at all. Esecially as alost everyone has them blocked anyway.

My popup blocker won't block the popups, but the ads do no harm. Why would someone want to block the ads?!

and an extra hour for this bullshit.

he didn't get prior notice, it is common sense just like you don't post how to crack flash in the flash forum, but 30 days for doing something he didn't know was illegal.

Next time his account will be terminated if he feels the need to explain how to block ads.

harsh , but fair.

Blocking popups is one thing, but blocking banners is going to far.

My browser, my choice. I actually ran an ad-block thingie for a while and eventually I just figured it makes the site look worse in terms of design :P I like the extra spice they add.

Popups are widely blocked these days and aren't an effective way to raise revenue, so we rely on the banners.

banners are ok although I have to complain about those talking smiley banners, they make sounds when you hover over them which is really annoying from time to time. at least you don't have any gay porn ads like you did in 2001 :P

Look at television, you have to sit through 3-5 minutes of ads every 10-15 minutes of a show.

so you get cable (like when your account stats improve you're supposed to get less ADs), or tivo (like those blockers)

I've noticed that lots of the ads lately are about NG related stuff as opposed to actual adverts, is no one buying them, or are you guys just so on top of bettering our internet experience that you'll sacrifice those important dollars. <3

Don't you only get money if someone clicks the ad?

Who clicks the ads anyway?

Response to Blocking NG ads 2006-02-15 15:45:24

most good ad companies won't let sites put ads on forums/chats/blogs etc... so that's probably why you see NG related ads in here... but there's real ads in the part of the site that actually matters.

Response to Blocking NG ads 2006-02-15 15:47:21

it's called CPM advertising.... you get paide per every 1000 people that SEE an ad.

It's like any other media.... people pay to get their ads seen... they don't only pay the tv channel when someone actually comes in to their store.

Now back in the "ZOOGIRL" days of advertising you would have been right....
