Additional roster notes:

Due to a lack of space on the roster, and me not wanting to have to make a 2-part roster in which the second post consists of only a few lines, 5 inactive members have been removed from this update. I have personally selected these members based on their activity across the entire BBS, and my estimation of their likelihood of returning to the EGB anytime soon.

These members are as follows, from rank lowest to highest:

Should these members return and wish to be re-added to the roster, all they need to do is ask.

Guardsmen have also been removed for the time being to create more space - I have a list of them and will post a thread on our private forums containing that list in due course.

I've not seen any of these around for a while. ArtDanVal is a particularly enigmatic character and will wander the BBS from time to time. The others I am not so sure about.

Tyler Johnston is allegedly deceased. It is with this in mind that I propose that we add him to a hall of fame, dedicated to brothers and sisters who are sadly no longer with us, having given up their [social] lives to fight in the battleground that is the portal.

Agreed. Though, it should be noted he is online just about every day. It's just a matter of having him get his butt over to the Barracks and actually post. If he's an officer, I'm sure it'll be a bit easier for him to make that effort.

Really? Usually I don't look into the users who are online, and if I do I only look into the ones with a "grey" link (those who I clicked to see their profiles).

But still, he has to get more active here.

There isn't enough data right now to warrant a second post. It would really only consist of a few lines which, as I've proven with this update, can be easily cut out without too much fuss.

The only reason I had to make the notes on a separate post this time is because the explanation of what I had done this week took up 200 characters more than the 8,000 character-per-post limit. Normally mine or Joshiwa's notes won't be as long as that, so from next week we should hopefully be able to fit everything comfortably into one post.

This isn't to say, however, that the roster will remain one post forever. When the time comes that I have enough data to make an expansion worthwhile, I will definitely add a second post rather than remove information to squeeze everything in. As it is, though, there was a commodity of inactive users who could be removed from the list with little consequence.

As for the Guardsmen, well, we only have 2 right now, and the inclusion of the position in our roster doesn't seem to have generated as much interest as I thought it would. I figure that the Guardsmen know who they are, and like I said, I'll be posting a thread in our private forums soon that will contain the list of Guardsmen until such time as there's enough interest in the position that we can add it back onto our roster. It's likely the return of the Guardsmen to the roster will coincide with the roster's expansion, whenever that may be.

To that end, if anybody has any suggestions for the roster that you'd like to see included each week, send me a PM about it, outlining your ideas. The more feasible ideas I get, the sooner we'll see the roster expanded. Any and all suggestions are welcome, so don't be shy.

I'm almost offended that guardsmen werent on this update! I don't think "interest" in guardsmen matter. We are still a part of the barracks, plus I have been the second most active user on this thread according to your activity roster twice now, and last update I had only slipped to third! Not to mention that last week I was the number 3 gainer and now I don't have the possibility to reclaim that status again?! I'm not really sure why I was excluded from this list.

It's not a slight against you or SoulMaster76, and yes, like you say, you ARE still a part of the Barracks, but this is simply for convenience's sake. This isn't permanent, and like I said, the sooner people give me new ideas for the roster so that I can extend it, the sooner the Guardsman will be re-added.

Also, bear in mind that whilst you are welcome to post here, you aren't a full-fledged EGB member yet. Your activity in this thread doesn't bypass your whistle status, which you've been told is a requirement for you to fix before you may apply to join here as a full member.

Guardsmen will remain on the activity list, and (saying this for the third time now), I will be making a thread in the private forums for the Guardsmen, so you are by no means being excluded from the Barracks. This is simply a temporary space-saver until I can fully extend the roster to incorporate a full second post, and is NOT a measure to segregate Guardsmen from full members.

Please also understand that managing the roster is a pretty big task. I haven't taken lightly to removing ANYBODY from the roster, and this is the first time that I've done so (and will hopefully be the last time that I have to for the reason of space-saving). I understand you are upset at being 'excluded' this time around, but remember that it isn't permanent, and doesn't make Guardsmen any less a part of the Barracks, so don't take it personally.

You know you're still a part of the EGB, and so does everyone else here. Your Guardsmanship is not being rescinded, just as the full members that have been removed from this update are not having their membership rescinded. I still have your information stored in a file on my computer, and you have my word that you'll be back on the roster as soon as I have enough data to extend the roster.

Alternatively, if you acquire a normal whistle, you can apply for full membership and return to the roster that way. For SoulMaster76, if he gains the rank of Private, he may also apply for full membership and return to the roster. If I don't have enough space on the roster after adding one, or both of you as full members, then I'll have to work around that, or else think fast and have the roster extended ASAP. It's not a small responsibility, though, so please don't give me grief for just doing my job here.

If you or SoulMaster76 have any further issues with this, send them to me via a PM rather than second-guessing me here, and I'll be glad to hear you out.

I heard about Major-punk, and it's saddening to think that he died. I think we should start a hall of fame in our forums and make some for the more influential Barracks members, including the likes of Major-punk, Phantom, Slash, etc. I'd love for the members that knew them to write about them, as it'd be a great tribute to those that worked the hardest to make the Barracks what it is.

Questionable. But ultimately, it's not up to us, it's up to the site administrators as to what is allowed and what is not. The best course of action I can think of is for our Portal Watch members to alert Wade of these flash and see if they are indeed breaking rules. If they are resubmits like Soul eluded to, we should dig up evidence and alert Wade.

The Portal is showing some speed lately (finally), and we are unfortunately also seeing an increase of malicious/spamlike flash. Keep on our toes, and alert the Portal Watches if you see any malicious spam. Flag accordingly as well.

Nice update, thanks! Just passing by to say that I'm trying to keep up my pace of like 4 per day by depositing every day, even though there are days on which I try and get more, lol.

Just doing a formatting test to see if the slight change I've made to the roster works on the BBS. This should fix the little discrepancies between a row with a + and a row with a - so that all rows end up the same length. Hope this works...

Nope. Not at all. I recommend starting with commending individual members first, though. Major-punk is a great place to start. He was, in fact, Barracks member #2 (if you count me as the first)! And you've been around the Barracks for a loooooooooooong time, so I would like for you to draft up Major-punk's hall of fame article first. You can put it in any thread on the Barracks forums for now. I need to tidy up the forums and make some new groups and such. I can move threads around, so use your best discretion. Let me know how that sounds.

I meant to post last night, but allergies got to me really bad. New Jersey got hit hard this year, and I'm quite sensitive to it.

Anyway, I made some nominations, most of which went unchecked. Therefore I'm announcing some appointments tonight:

I doesn't take a big brain to figure out I am appointing Supreme Commander SlashFirestorm as my new Lieutenant Chief Barracks Officer! Slash has done so much for the Barracks in so many ways, and he knows this place inside-out. He has indeed run the Barracks before in my absence, and there is no reason he can't do it again. I certainly hope to see you show that mug around here more, and with you good luck in the role!

I am appointing Brigadier General NEVR as our new Portal Operations Officer! He is definitely fit for the job, with this Portal Watch membership, high activity rate, and keen eye on the Portal. I certainly hope he'll keep us fully equipped for protecting the Portal.

I am also appointing Private TheNossinator as our new Barracks NGPD Laison! You are indeed well-equipped for the role, and hope that you can use your influence in both groups to keep relations strong!

Lastly, I'm appointing Sergeant First Class AnalPenguinFarming as our new Barracks NGDD Laison! I know you are busy with revamping the NGDD and working hard there, but I believe that it'll put you in the perfect position to keep both groups informed about each other and foster relations between the two. I'm sure you'll do perfectly for letting the NGDD know the Barracks is always there to extend a helping hand.

The last step to make these appointment official is for the four members to accept the positions. Please respond back and let me know.

Of course, there's a fifth member of the Barracks I appointed for a position that I did not appoint. I didn't forget about him, as that is Master Sergeant PossiblePancakes. I am actually withdrawing my nomination for him as the Intelligence Operations Officer. This is because I am not only concerned this might not be the best role for him, but I am also not sure we even need an Intel Ops at this stage of the game.

However, we are still in need of a Portal Violations Officer, and I feel that Pancakes will be better suited for this role. I have talked this over with quite a few Barracks members, and feel comfortable appointing him to the position! His keen eye on the Portal helps determine how we can further check for those malicious review and flash that come about, and being a Portal Watch member doesn't help, either. While he doesn't post as often, I happen to know he is online all the time, and is best suited for the role.

That being said, I need to know if you accept the role as well, Pancakes.

Last order of business tonight will be my State of the Barracks address. I first want to hear from our new officers as to whether they accept their roles, and I will later address their duties in my SotB address.

I don't think a 15 year old that is only kinda into Flash could develop a game as professional as that.

Also, thank you for my recommendation, Eagle, as we have discussed on AIM I would probably be more suited for the Portal Violations Officer position, apparently other members believe the same. However, whatever I am assigned to I will be happy to carry out my duties.

This is my official acceptance to the position of Elite Guard Barracks Liason. I'm happy to be appointed to the position and I'll serve it well. Total random and non-related, but fuck, I wish they made more B/P levels. Even if there was no additional vote power boost, just having some more levels beyond 30000 would entice me into B/P'ing like a fucking crazy man again. Fighting for the top B/P rank is fine, but having a new nice shiny badge is something that appeals to me even more, lol.

I was talking about the exact same thing to BlueHippo earlier on AIM. He also said that even if it was just a new badge with no VP % bonus increase he'd welcome it, because there's less incentive to keep B/Ping once you get to EGSC. I can kinda see his point, and I can imagine it sucks to not rank up at all even when you B/P actively.

I'd like to say that I officially accept the role as Portal Violations Officer here in the Elite Guard Barracks. Some of you may not be too acquainted with me as it is no secret that I have been very scarce when posting in the EGB. I assure you though that I do read up on the thread, and I do not what goes on here in the Barracks. I have been a member since page 187 and I will do my best to fulfill my role as Portal Violations Officer. I will fulfill my duties past the best of my ability, so do not fret, I will live up to EagleRock's expectations.

I would also like to bring back up The Elite Guard Barracks podcast. I don't believe most of you were around when Eagle, Phantom, AgentSmith, and Peregrinus made this first and last podcast, but I would like to make a proposal to resurrect this neat little idea for the Elite Guard Barracks. This podcast was recorded and edited by our very own EagleRock, and they used Skype to do the podcast. If Eagle wishes to continue these, I would like to know who would be up for doing one? It would be a great chance to get your voice heard even more than it is now.
