Good looking list. I've been gone so much that I didn't realize we were doing a post count/page count, but I definitely like the idea. The portal isn't too bad today. Fairly slow but not fairly spammed up which is somewhat unusual. I've gotten around 60 B/Ps today so it isn't too bad.

Hey, everyone!

I know my posts around here are sparse, but trust me, I'm on here all the time. I'm currently in process of documenting a lot of the Barracks procedures so that way everyone knows and understands them. I have just finished documenting the recruitment procedures, which you can find here.

I appreciate all of your suggestions about recruiting, as they've been taken into account when I drafted up the guidelines. However, as far as the guidelines go, they still call for a relatively informal recruitment process. My rationale for this is as follows: I don't think a set-time or set amount of votes are necessary for recruits. As far as I know, we have only had one member of the Barracks that was kicked out in all of our history. Therefore, I don't think we necessarily do a bad job in recruiting members. For that reason, I want to keep the recruiting process informal and flexible based on the situation at hand.

Let's face it: some recruits (those without "Private," for example), are no-brainers. Others are very upstanding members of Newgrounds and are very easy to see that they are fitting recruits (for example, Honorable Dischargees of the NGPD). These types of recruits don't require much time or discussion. Others, more specifically, those with a shady past or those that are relatively unknown, require more thought. Those require more evaluation, and more input from the members. Discussions can take place until the recruitment team is satisfied with a solution. This could take hours, or it could take days. Either way, our recruiters have done an excellent job in the past and I would like to continue to trust them.

Let's remember: an informal system does not equal an unorganized system. That is why I posted the guidelines above, so all can understand what goes into the process and see that it isn't basically a crapshoot.

Either way, my goal was to let everyone get up to speed on the process and make sure we're all on the same page. If you still have concerns about the recruiting process, I'll be very glad to hear them. But honestly, I don't think the recruiting process is the biggest of our worries at all.

I plan on having a kind of "State of the Barracks" address to let everyone know where I stand at sorting things out around here. Basically, I have some items on my agenda:

- Continue to receive nominations for and appoint new officers
- Write out a "state of the Barracks" to let everyone know what my plans are for the future
- Draft a Barracks Manifesto to make the purpose of our club clear to the Barracks and the rest of NG
- Foster greater relations with the NGPD and NGDD and the rest of our allies and assist them as needed

Basically, I do not see issues at all with the Barracks as it is (it pretty much has gone smoothly like it always has, even in the absence of the executive officers), but some members have concerns about recruitment and getting new members. I want to address them and ensure that we are doing the best we can in these regards and make sure the members are happy.

I know I'm coming across really formal lately and being a kind of a killjoy, but this is just until I get all this crap outlined and laid out for everyone. I realize that the procedures the Barracks were running under weren't well-known, and I certainly never meant that to be the case. Basically, I'll feel a lot better when I get all this stuff out in the open where it's supposed to be.

Aaaanyway, let me know what you all think. I'd also like to hear more suggestions for new officers. I'm pretty much ready to present suggestions for new officers and have the members bounce opinions back, but I want to give everyone some extra chances to make their nominations/suggestions. Exactly my point. I'm glad you agree. I believe that once we refresh the officers and stir up the juices around here, the recruitment process will hum along smoothly as ever. After all, I don't appoint officers just for the hell of it. I trust them. :-)

I'm referring to per-day posts. I usually post 3-4 times per day on the Barracks, but a lot of my time is taken up with all this writing and planning I'm doing. But thanks. :-)

That's the underlying hope. Again, most of these writings might just be superfluous or just plain trite, but they will be there, in case we need them. I also want to make sure people know I'm not just pulling things out of my ass, and that I actually have some plans for around here. :-)

Speaking of plans, let's talk about some nominations.

As most of you might not know, the way I appoint new officers is by getting recommendations and nominations from current officers and members, then I put out a list of my own nominations based on those. I get feedback from the officers/members on my proposed list of new officers, and once I get feedback, I will either revise it or put it in place. Therefore, PMs/posts/IMs/whatever are greatly appreciated.

First off, I must say it is tough for me to do this, but I accept Phantom's resignation as my Lieutenant. He was extremely valuable to me and to the Barracks, and is a good friend. I understand his reasons for resigning, of course, and hope that he continues to post here as a member.

Obviously I need to replace my Lieutenant immediately. However, this isn't a hard decision. There's only one officer I can think of that has been around long enough, and is respected enough to run the Barracks: SlashFirestorm. He is already my Third-in-Command, and I wouldn't really be making a big change. This is only "making things official."

In light of the ongoing spam issue in the Barracks and Wade's gambit on stopping spam for good, the Barracks needs to be more attentive to the threats on the Portal. While Slash is currently our Portal Ops, I feel we need to have more officers in these high officer positions to make our leadership more robust. Also, we need someone very active on Newgrounds, the Barracks, the Portal, and with watching for malicious flash. Based on this, I can only make one recommendation: NEVR. He is very active and has helped me greatly over the last few days. Therefore, I believe he fits the role perfectly, and deserves the position.

As we have other Portal Watch members in the Barracks, I believe that we should leverage their positions and have the Barracks help as much as possible with protecting the Portal. This requires the Barracks to be knowledgeable about the latest threats that are facing us. Therefore, I'm reinstating the Intel Ops position that has long been inactive in the Barracks. Intel Ops has not been used for years, since the older threats of NG were long gone. As far as a qualified member, I am nominating PossiblePancakes for the role. His long-standing membership of the Barracks and excellent abilities of spotting malicious/stolen/rulebreaking flash work perfect for the role. Also, his Portal Watch status will help keep the Barracks informed of the best ways to protect the Portal.

The Barracks also is in need of fostering greater relations with our allies and keeping our alliances alive and strong. Therefore, we need strong and active members acting as our laisons. The first position is in regards to our oldest of allies, the NGPD. While we already have a NGPD laison at the moment, I believe a second one is in order for the current time. The member I am looking at for this position is TheNossinator. Being nominated in the past and having contributed much to the NGPD, he will be perfect for the role.

As far as our other allies, the NGDD, they are in a transitional period as well. Therefore, I believe that the Barracks, as their allies, should extend any help that is necessary to them. It is only natural that we instate a NGDD Laison at this time. The perfect person for the job is none other than AnalPenguinFarming. Taking up much of the task himself, he will be very busy in the NGDD, and not have much time for else. However, I believe he will be the perfect person to provide updates to the Barracks on the NGDD's progress and be able to "kill two birds with one stone" in that respect.

I would appreciate everyone's input into my nominations and see how everyone responds to these nominations. THis list is by no means complete, as I plan on appointing more officers than just these five at this point. As I have more in mind, I will let everyone know of them. In the meantime, make more nominations yourself!

It is a very good choice and is quite frankly the best choice for the Portal Ops position. I am sure it will motivate him even more to help out.

As our leader it's your duty to make all of these needed changes and keep us informed about them and I personally think your doing an outstanding job. I'm sure everyone else in the Barracks feels the same. I don't feel like your being a "killjoy" at all. It's great to know that my leader steps up to the duties he was assigned and takes them on with full responsibility. This probably sounds extremely corny but this is how I feel. Your doing a great job. :D

It is indeed sad to see Phantom resign as the Lieutenant. He was a great second in command, and he will be missed. Hopefully he will still stick around here in the Barracks for other discussions and things like that. His reasons for resigning are good ones. It looks like life is treating him nicely for once. I wish him luck on his future.

I see exciting times ahead, especially with the developments (and potential further developments) with the efforts to fight Portal spam. I dare say that the sleeping giant that is Slash may become B/P active in the near-ish future if things keep going the way they are...hell, one of the reasons I stopped B/P'ing was because of Portal frustration, but if we actually have a chance...well, what's the point of having a voting power of 11.17 if I'm not going to use it?

Plus, once I have the silver gauntlet and the sexy evil aura, the temptation to return will become more than I can bear...

In any case, good to see officer positions get cleaned up. Lot of them had been stale or unclear for some time. Hopefully, once our house is in complete order, we can start inviting people to join the party. :-D

Obviously I need to replace my Lieutenant immediately. However, this isn't a hard decision. There's only one officer I can think of that has been around long enough, and is respected enough to run the Barracks: SlashFirestorm. He is already my Third-in-Command, and I wouldn't really be making a big change. This is only "making things official."

Congratulations Slash! He lead the Barracks while you and Phantom were absent. He did great things around here, he deserves this new position.

...Based on this, I can only make one recommendation: NEVR. He is very active and has helped me greatly over the last few days. Therefore, I believe he fits the role perfectly, and deserves the position.

More congratulations! Nice, now NEVR has two officer positions (Records officer). He leads the posting ranks every week, our most active member. And he joined less than a year ago and is doing an awesome job here!

...Therefore, I'm reinstating the Intel Ops position that has long been inactive in the Barracks. Intel Ops has not been used for years, since the older threats of NG were long gone. As far as a qualified member, I am nominating PossiblePancakes for the role. His long-standing membership of the Barracks and excellent abilities of spotting malicious/stolen/rulebreaking flash work perfect for the role. Also, his Portal Watch status will help keep the Barracks informed of the best ways to protect the Portal.

I don't have anything against PossiblePancakes. I consider him a great member, creates intelligent ideas and has a great "eye" for reporting stolen/malicious flashes.

But he has to get more active, both here and on the Portal. I guess everyone here agrees with it. Come on, Pancakes!

The Barracks also is in need of fostering greater relations with our allies and keeping our alliances alive and strong. Therefore, we need strong and active members acting as our liaisons. The first position is in regards to our oldest of allies, the NGPD. While we already have a NGPD laison at the moment, I believe a second one is in order for the current time. The member I am looking at for this position is TheNossinator. Being nominated in the past and having contributed much to the NGPD, he will be perfect for the role.

I agree with you. He was the first guardsman to graduate here (DBlach just needs the fixed whistle) and B/P a lot. Also, he created the roster for the new NGPD... needless to say anything else.

As far as our other allies, the NGDD, they are in a transitional period as well. Therefore, I believe that the Barracks, as their allies, should extend any help that is necessary to them. It is only natural that we instate a NGDD Laison at this time. The perfect person for the job is none other than AnalPenguinFarming. Taking up much of the task himself, he will be very busy in the NGDD, and not have much time for else. However, I believe he will be the perfect person to provide updates to the Barracks on the NGDD's progress and be able to "kill two birds with one stone" in that respect.

I agree with you again. I look at the NGDoD sometimes, and I noticed that he and TheThing do an excellent job there.

I see exciting times ahead, especially with the developments (and potential further developments) with the efforts to fight Portal spam. I dare say that the sleeping giant that is Slash may become B/P active in the near-ish future if things keep going the way they are...hell, one of the reasons I stopped B/P'ing was because of Portal frustration, but if we actually have a chance...well, what's the point of having a voting power of 11.17 if I'm not going to use it?

Good point. Truth be told, that was my issue, too. Even when I was getting back onto Newgrounds (around Clock Day), it was just too depressing to see flash after flash after flash get through with no quality nor work whatsoever. Fair voting got me less than 20 B/P a day, and it seemed like any work towards solving the problem was futile.

Plus, once I have the silver gauntlet and the sexy evil aura, the temptation to return will become more than I can bear...

In any case, good to see officer positions get cleaned up. Lot of them had been stale or unclear for some time. Hopefully, once our house is in complete order, we can start inviting people to join the party. :-D

Anywho, did any one esle this morning try to access the site and it sair "in ur tank, upgrading ur server besides me? I found it odd because there was no warning of it like there was for the last wednesday down time. There was a pic of three tankmen welding a tank, i'd post the pic, but it's a .bmp and won't go on a post.

That happened for me as well. It was the same downtime pic as the redesign. I assume there was some unplanned downtime with the servers or something. That kind of stuff happens more than you'd think in IT.

Agreed. Though, it should be noted he is online just about every day. It's just a matter of having him get his butt over to the Barracks and actually post. If he's an officer, I'm sure it'll be a bit easier for him to make that effort.

I really appreciate the job you're giving me, but unfortunately it's come at a somewhat bad time, sir. I'm currently doing a job in about 3 hours from my home and cannot spend as much time on NG as I'd like to. However I'll try and spend about an hour on NG every night before I go to bed to do whatever it is you exactly need me to do. The connection out here sucks, but I'm willing to do the job.

I'd prefer if you PMed me with the information and I can give you my screen name for AIM and we'll talk about the important issues at hand between our two groups.

I honestly don't know how the top couple of B/Pers do it. Once I get to 30,000 I might as well stop until they get new ranks (unless they get new ranks by the time I get to 30,000-which at this rate of B/Ping they probably will). Because honestly...Molotov with over 100,000 B/Ps is almost unimaginable for me to even come close to getting. Even if we were to ever get new ranks, he would still be at the top.

Well I kinda realized that once you get Supreme Commander you with even a little bit of effort you can get pretty damn close to the top 50. But I'll cross that hurdle when I get there. Still gotta get there first. But it's a personal choice, after all 30000 B/P points is it really worht it just to give up and leave it at that. I've seen people get too many points too fast and just lose interest etc, so it's really up to see how well you can actually do.
