Just because I'm mostly inactive doesn't mean I don't check up on the Barracks, heh. I'll be keeping an eye out for applicants who meet the EGB basic qualifications.

I do think that, in light of a lot of older members becoming inactive, we need fresh batches of good recruits. I heavily recommend PM'ing active users who show a desire to help out the Portal and guiding them to either the NGPD or EGB. Also, a long while ago I recommended checking the Blog page and looking for "I'm new, help plz"-type posts---messaging those people and running them through the basics can lead to potential recruits in the future, or, at the very least, one less clueless newbie.

Slash WILL return, so don't write me off just yet, heh. If I ever think I'll be leaving and not coming back, I'd make a resignation speech or something, not just leave.

So you're thinking of ative recruiting? If someone is active a lot we would send them a letter via PM or something? I think thats a good idea because it seems that although everyone who is active here is great to be around, it's always the same people on here. I think that would require some one to work in collaboration with Slash. I have an idea of how it would work: Slash would let whoever know that so and so is active and does a lot for NG, and the person who's job it is would contact that person and let them know that we want them in the barracks.

Sorry soldier, you need 2,500 exp to join, try the NGPD first and when you get near 2500 experience you can try again. although you sound like the kind of person that we need and you can still apply your services, just watch the flashes and vote fairly. LoL although if you want to take a bullet for the superiors, you can, but its unnecessary.

Sir, yes, sir! I shall return when I have achieved my task. Mepsi out!

Also, taking bullets is fun, you get to be like "NOOOOOOOO!!!" all in slow motion, but the dieing part is crap.

Just another guy who doesn't get what this group is. Before the redesign the B/P ranks from Private on up had "Elite Guard" in front of them, but he doesn't know that, and thinks (like many new users) that this is some kind of war roleplay club.
*AHEM*
Sorry Mepsi, but this group is for people with 2500 B/P (Private rank) and above. As for what I'm doing here with only 2000 or so, I am a member of the allied club, the Newgrounds Police Department, which you can join once you get 400 B/P (Portal Security rank) who hangs out here and gets in discussions at times. Get that B/P rank up, and we'll be glad to let you in the NGPD, then get it up even more to join here.

Holy crap Hemlok is back!! And you got supreme commander...finally! Passing you wasn't nearly as satisfying with you being inactive for so long. I thought you died or something. Well it's good to have you back and a big congrats on reaching the last rank!

Also congrats to anyone else deserving!

So I got back from my work related trip a few days ago and been frickin busy with work since I've been back! Ahhh work!! Also found out my test date for SSgt is gonna be next Wednesday so I've been studying during pretty much all my free time. Need to pass that test. Test passed = more $$!

So it looks like Wades taken the initiative to create a b/p watch. Kind of a half step towards a portal mod but a step in the right direction. I still think sentio's idea for a spam whistle would be most effective at keeping spam under control. Now it just needs to be created.

So in other news I recently purchased floor tickets to NIN in August! The wife is more of a Beyonce kind of girl but I'm making her come with! Lol, it's gonna be awesome!

I'll try and get on Aim too, that is what we're using right? Or is it MSN? What is it you guys are using to talk on? I'm on NG sporadically pretty much everyday. I vote several times daily so we can chat n defend the portal n stuff.

Whoa guys right now at this moment i posess 3333 b/p points! I don't know just bored no one is on this time of night because of timezones and what not. We need some more people on late, not that there is much portal activity three minutes ago, there were no flashes UJ, not kidding none.

Good to hear. :-) However, let's remember that we can have more than one Laison per group. Especially if we're talking about fostering NGPD relations, assisting them as needed, and working on new recruits, I'd say more than one NGPD Laison is in order.

At 5/10/08 10:35 PM, TheNossinator wrote: If you look about or so pages back, I was nominated by NEVR for the job and I believe it was supported by a couple of people.

That's good to know, thanks. You don't need to worry or get defensive, though. When I said I don't like self-nominations, I am really referring to members that troll around for a position non-stop (Dream_of_Duke comes to mind). You obviously didn't come off that way, and am certainly considering you. I just wanted to make my point clear that I don't like people coming up to me always looking for an officer position. People like that rarely get the position.

That being said, I do want some more nominations for positions around here. So PLEASE everyone let me know who you think is suited for what. Remember, I put the roster list as well as descriptions of each position on the forums, so please take a look and see what members you feel are suited. If you want to voice them here or through AIM or PM, any way is fine. I'd really like to get new officers in place early next week, but I need the input from the Barracks before I can do so.

At 5/10/08 02:53 PM, DBlach wrote: I do also view Tails as an inspiring and competent CO as it were, hopefully someday he will decide to pass the torch and join our ranks as well!

I agree. However, I've known Tails for a while, and the chances of him leaving the NGPD for the EGB (even if he did pass the torch) are rare. He put a lot into the NGPD, so leaving it for the Barracks would be hard for him at this point.

At 5/10/08 04:12 PM, NEVR wrote: It's very rare these days that we'll get someone applying who is qualified, but requires some serious discussion. Either way, I think this is an issue for Eagle and Slash to have a chat about - I'm just putting in my two cents.

Basically, I think the issue comes down to the fact that our recruitment methods aren't that transparent. While Slash and I can generally tell who's right for what role very quickly, there are the occasional recruits that require discussion, like you said.

What I'd like to do is draft up some more specific recruitment guidelines and let everyone know what they are. That way, if we do come across that occasionally difficult decision, Slash and I can review it with the rest of the officers/members and get educated opinions.

If you're on AIM later I'll have a chat with you about who I think should be nominated for certain roles. I'd prefer to discuss it in private rather than discussing it here, in public.

I understand, and would appreciate the input. Since it's 3AM EDT here, I assume you're not signing on tonight. :-) I will be gone for most of the day tomorrow, so you might want to leave me a PM with your suggestions, which I will read when I return.

At 5/10/08 08:08 PM, Joshiwa wrote: Thanks for the advancement Eaglerock.

Thank yourself. You're the one that took the role of updating the roster. :-)

I agree with NEVR that maybe the discussion period should be extended to at least 48 hours to get more members involved (hopefully), usually just the same handful voting.

Well, generally speaking, I don't like having any set period at all for recruits. Like what was said before, some members are no-brainers, while others take time to check up on and make an educated decision. I'd rather take time than rush a decision (of course), but I wouldn't like to hold up someone that we know we're accepting. Like I said, I'll be drafting up the recruitment guidelines tomorrow so everyone can see. We can bounce discussions from there. :-)

Interesting. We'll definitely need to talk about it more. I'd say let's get the new officers and recruitment guidelines ironed out, then we can focus on getting new members.

Slash WILL return, so don't write me off just yet, heh. If I ever think I'll be leaving and not coming back, I'd make a resignation speech or something, not just leave.

OK. Just remember that resignation requires filling out forms 8401-RSG, 901-ISK, and 45J. And press hard on them...you're making 5 copies. :-)

Anyway, I need to get rest, as I'm quite tired over here. However, thanks for your input and discussion, and let's keep those nominations rolling! I may not get on NG until late tomorrow (celebrating Mothers Day in Pennsylvania, so it's a bit of a trip), but I'll be on. Gnight all!

I read the first page and one of the rules says "Act like you're in the army" so I'm following guidelines.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

What I think would be good is having a way of getting to know the recruits' personality a bit more before they're accepted. I don't believe that a trial period actually does this, though, as the recruit would pretty much just act how they think we want them to act, which isn't the idea.

EGG FRIGGIN ZACTLY. Judgment calls, on the other hand, are different stories. That's why we can't have rock-solid rules for all applicants in that regard, as every potential recruit is a different story. And I'll pass the chance at the blatant "more like guidelines than rules" pirate code thingy.

So I become inactive for only two days and I miss all the action here? Damn, I need to stop sleeping so early! That doesn't happen very often, but sometimes I have unstoppable urges of NAP!

First, I won't quote anyone, or this post would look too grey. Second, my exams are almost over, so activity = MORE! And third, Manchester United is the English soccer champion! So all English members (Coop, NEVR...) go outside and see a reddish party.

OK, onto the serious business:

Congratulations everyone for their new levels (DarkSoldier and aldlv, that I know)!

Congratulations Portal Guards that we discovered only two pages ago!

And Congratulations Joshiwa on becoming our new Records officer!

First, nice guides that you wrote, sir EagleRock! They explain very well about the DEFCON system, each officer role and who is who on our officer list. Nice work!

About the new recruitment thing you were discussing, I think it shouldn't be time based, but voting based. For example: a new user only get recruited if they got, like, 10 votes. I personally think it would be better. If it doesn't get enough votes in a period of time (I thought 5 days), then the poll is closed and we check the results. Is it a good idea or just crap?

I won't nominate anyone for the officer positions right now, I'd have to think about it quite a lot, and I'm not in the mood to do it (I'm tired...)

Oh, and Mepsi, I think you shouldn't keep posting here before you get the 400 B/P required to join the guardsman position. But by the B/P pace you're going, you should get the required amount soon... =). Still, you're a great newbie. You're only 13 and you seem to be very mature, so I'm sure you'll be a great member when you graduate. At least, you didn't think this was a role-playing club. =P

I thought this post would be longer... Anyway, I said what I wanted to say, put my thoughts here.

Back to the Flash Portal! I'd consider it DEFCON 4, since we have only 2 UJ submissions.

I think that makes a lot more sense than the current system, like NEVR or EagleRock (can't remember) said, if it is time based then the user who applied will only act the way we want them to as to not jepordize their chance of being accepted. So a poll on the private forum would be a fantastic idea. Although since I don't check it that often who ever will be in charge of this should make a post on this thread saying that the poll is up on the private one.

LOL... Dude, that's EXACTLY what happens already. Someone stops by asking to join, Slash does his introductory speech, and informs us that the poll/discussion thread in our private forums is underway. That's how we've done things for a while now.

What Sir-Nuts was stipulating is that rather than the discussion period lasting 24 hours, which it currently does, it should be based on how many votes the potential recruit receives - or, perhaps slightly more accurately, the time it will take for the recruit to be accepted is dictated by how long it takes them to receive a certain amount of 'yes' votes.

I believe that's what he meant, anyway.

My qualm with this is that most people aren't active enough on the private forums for us to actually get 10 votes overall. Like Eagle said, there's a lot of cases where it's just obvious that the recruit is worthy, or concordantly is not worthy. It's rare that we get a case that requires a mot of serious thought and discussion.

You're right. Usually with the 24 hours period that the poll stays, we get about 6 votes. But who knows with a higher time to vote we get 10 necessary votes.

OR we could reduce the number of necessary votes. Maybe with... hmm... 7 votes? Another idea would be reposting the link to the thread as a reminder in case the page changes so more people can see it.

I don't think it's a bad idea, but the 48-hour period isn't a bad idea either. Maybe if we combined both... Would it work? Giving us 48 hours or 10 votes for a user to be applied? Hmm?

*Salutes*

Barracks Activity Levels: 4/27/08 - 5/4/08

NEVR's note:

Week 3 of this particular list. The figures show that activity is on the rise, which is nice to see. 24.3 average posts per day here is a nice figure - that's almost a new page every day, which, considering there's been some *long* posts, and good discussion, is pretty awesome.

Keep up the great work guys.

New pages this week: 6
Total posts this week: 170
Active Users this week: 26

Cocks, forgot to change the date from the previous list. Should have been:

Barracks Activity Levels: 5/4/08 - 5/11/08

Sorry, I was in a bit of a rush. Might as well do a link to the previous list whilst I'm here...

Thanks for the update, NEVR! I was about to ask where was it.

I thought Joshiwa would do it... wasn't it his week?

Only three weeks, but since it, the posting average rose quite a lot. But I don't think the average rose only because of it. Many members came back (EagleRock!!) and, as you said, there was a good discussion here, with long posts (and I wasn't a part of it... =P)

Keep up the great work guys.

Let's keep it up! I'll try to be active here everyday again. When I'm not active, I always miss the good discussion.

New pages this week: 6

Come on, we can make a new page everyday!

Active Users this week: 26

26 active users out of 46. 20 inactive members. Some of which just disappeared, like NintendoMadness, craigalan and bifgis.

Where are they?

Average EGB posts per day this week: 24.3

We can reach 30 this week, right? If everyone continues active like this week...

I normally do this one just before 12am GMT. I'd wait until just before 12am EST/EDT, but that's 5am here, so I'd be crazy tired and make even more mistakes :P

We only alternate the B/P roster. This one isn't a huge amount of work, so I don't mind doing it myself.

Don't let him lie, when I asked him about alternating that list he started yelling YA TRICK YA then pistol whipped me. SO I was like fine whatever do it yourself.

True story.

P

I swear man I told you not to send those fat chicks my way now they won't leave me alone. All your fault.

But in all seriousness next time you are on AIM or MSN I need to talk to you about roster business and other non-sense chaps our age like to talk about.
