Hey, remember, I'm still here, even if you ignore me or think I'm not around, I'm watching. Heheh, the only time I'm not is when I'm eating or sleeping. Don't think about replacing me yet cause I'm back!
Good to hear. :-) However, let's remember that we can have more than one Laison per group. Especially if we're talking about fostering NGPD relations, assisting them as needed, and working on new recruits, I'd say more than one NGPD Laison is in order.

If you look about or so pages back, I was nominated by NEVR for the job and I believe it was supported by a couple of people.
That's good to know, thanks. You don't need to worry or get defensive, though. When I said I don't like self-nominations, I am really referring to members that troll around for a position non-stop (Dream_of_Duke comes to mind). You obviously didn't come off that way, and am certainly considering you. I just wanted to make my point clear that I don't like people coming up to me always looking for an officer position. People like that rarely get the position.
That being said, I do want some more nominations for positions around here. So PLEASE everyone let me know who you think is suited for what. Remember, I put the roster list as well as descriptions of each position on the forums, so please take a look and see what members you feel are suited. If you want to voice them here or through AIM or PM, any way is fine. I'd really like to get new officers in place early next week, but I need the input from the Barracks before I can do so.

I do also view Tails as an inspiring and competent CO as it were, hopefully someday he will decide to pass the torch and join our ranks as well!
I agree. However, I've known Tails for a while, and the chances of him leaving the NGPD for the EGB (even if he did pass the torch) are rare. He put a lot into the NGPD, so leaving it for the Barracks would be hard for him at this point.

It's very rare these days that we'll get someone applying who is qualified, but requires some serious discussion. Either way, I think this is an issue for Eagle and Slash to have a chat about - I'm just putting in my two cents.
Basically, I think the issue comes down to the fact that our recruitment methods aren't that transparent. While Slash and I can generally tell who's right for what role very quickly, there are the occasional recruits that require discussion, like you said.
What I'd like to do is draft up some more specific recruitment guidelines and let everyone know what they are. That way, if we do come across that occasionally difficult decision, Slash and I can review it with the rest of the officers/members and get educated opinions.
If you're on AIM later I'll have a chat with you about who I think should be nominated for certain roles. I'd prefer to discuss it in private rather than discussing it here, in public.
I understand, and would appreciate the input. Since it's 3AM EDT here, I assume you're not signing on tonight. :-) I will be gone for most of the day tomorrow, so you might want to leave me a PM with your suggestions, which I will read when I return.

Thanks for the advancement Eaglerock.
Thank yourself. You're the one that took the role of updating the roster. :-)
I agree with NEVR that maybe the discussion period should be extended to at least 48 hours to get more members involved (hopefully), usually just the same handful voting.
Well, generally speaking, I don't like having any set period at all for recruits. Like what was said before, some members are no-brainers, while others take time to check up on and make an educated decision. I'd rather take time than rush a decision (of course), but I wouldn't like to hold up someone that we know we're accepting. Like I said, I'll be drafting up the recruitment guidelines tomorrow so everyone can see. We can bounce discussions from there. :-)

Just because I'm mostly inactive doesn't mean I don't check up on the Barracks, heh. I'll be keeping an eye out for applicants who meet the EGB basic qualifications.
Never said you didn't. :-)
I do think that, in light of a lot of older members becoming inactive, we need fresh batches of good recruits. I heavily recommend PM'ing active users who show a desire to help out the Portal and guiding them to either the NGPD or EGB. Also, a long while ago I recommended checking the Blog page and looking for "I'm new, help plz"-type posts---messaging those people and running them through the basics can lead to potential recruits in the future, or, at the very least, one less clueless newbie.
Interesting. We'll definitely need to talk about it more. I'd say let's get the new officers and recruitment guidelines ironed out, then we can focus on getting new members.
Slash WILL return, so don't write me off just yet, heh. If I ever think I'll be leaving and not coming back, I'd make a resignation speech or something, not just leave.
OK. Just remember that resignation requires filling out forms 8401-RSG, 901-ISK, and 45J. And press hard on them...you're making 5 copies. :-)

Just another guy who doesn't get what this group is. Before the redesign the B/P ranks from Private on up had "Elite Guard" in front of them, but he doesn't know that, and thinks (like many new users) that this is some kind of war roleplay club.
*AHEM*
Because this club wasn't a roleplay club at first? HRMM.. :-)
But yes, you're absolutely right. Back then, it was simple for people to understand. Nowadays, it's a bit confusing to potential members and visitors.
stupid redesign
Anyway, I need to get rest, as I'm quite tired over here. However, thanks for your input and discussion, and let's keep those nominations rolling! I may not get on NG until late tomorrow (celebrating Mothers Day in Pennsylvania, so it's a bit of a trip), but I'll be on. Gnight all!
*salutes*
