Well they're all gone now.

Does anyone know if we got credit for those movies?

Got about 50 Blam today so far. Those camels are dead now!

RESULTS OF THE SPAM ATTACK:

60 blammed/deleted flashes;
6 flagged movies;
NONE survived Wade's eye.

So Clock Day has a hope? I believe so... Wade and the staff won't let spam attack the Portal again.

I hope so, although Clock Day is a major Newgrounds event, unlike today (I didn't even know about it until it started happening). I doubt there will be any major wipes on Clock Day, unless it's done to people who alt-spam or whatnot.

I find it creepy that I gave my "how to deal with Clock Day" message shortly before the CC burst, lol. DESTINY

So I have a question, I thought we had a weekly update on EGB B/P paces and ranks? If Sterockicy needs help from time to time making the list or if someone else could make it if he doesn't have time could they? I'm just wandering.

I'll tell y'all one thing: the DEFCON system saved my ass today. I only check the Portal a few times a day, and I wasn't planning a check anytime soon when I was browsing the EGB and saw the "ALERT" messages.

Haha.

DEFCON lowered to 3; moderate Portal activity. Keep an eye out for any possible resurgence.

I have an idea to help secure the Portal further.

If the staff put the vote bar at the end of each movie, you would have to watch the entire movie before voting.

"But, PossiblePancakes, what if spammers make their movie 20 minutes long, then what?"

Simple, the Flash would be ignored because the good people who protect the Portal would recognize the spammers' names.. Then, the staff could make a "timed out" function, so if a movie hasn't received an X amount of votes in an X amount of time, it would automatically be deleted.

If you see a flaw in that somewhere, I'm sure their is one, I can try and figure out a way to solve it.

I didn't see either of those in the wave. Neither are rulebreaking, though, so vote normally. If there's a huge second wave sometime during the day, I expect Wade will just slam down his iron fist again.

"What if a spammer uses a loop to fool the system?"

Glad you asked, if a movie is just a loop and therefore has no ending; there could be a new option for a whistle point. This way the admins would be able to review it and remove it from the system if necessary.

True, it would be a great idea. Until...

"But, PossiblePancakes, what if spammers make their movie 20 minutes long, then what?"

Uhhh... I don't know.

It's a good idea and I think it would work. But look at Thwomps: The Movie, it's more than 20 minutes long and it's a great movie which won both daily and weekly awards. Would it be deleted?

If you see a flaw in that somewhere, I'm sure their is one, I can try and figure out a way to solve it.

I pointed the flaw here. My idea would be to activate the voting bar after half or the movie was played or maybye 10 seconds after you hit the play button, who knows.

The problem is, I have no idea if that is possible, since some movies are loops and some are too short. They could do it based on the filesize of the movie, but it doesn't mean that a movie with a small filesize is small in its length.

Well, it's the best I could think right now. Anyone else with more ideas to a working/fair voting bar?

Glad you asked. Instead of an automatic deletion as stated above, a "timed-out" movie could fall under a different threshold latter. Just like the latter in place now, it would need a certain score before it was either blammed/saved. So there would be the default threshold latter, the one we use now, and a "timed-out" threshold latter, the one that would be added.

Anything else?

There could be no way to do that, unless people who submitted their movies agreed to put that bar into the end of the movie.

And what about those who have already seen the movie, but just want to vote on it so they can deposit their experience? I've voted on the top 5 countless time because I didn't have enough time to watch at least 5 UJ submissions.

"But, PossiblePancakes, what if spammers make their movie 20 minutes long, then what?"

But what if it's a legitimate movie that just happens to be long? I mean, there are 5+ minute flashes out there, yet no one would be able to vote on them.

"What if a spammer uses a loop to fool the system?"

Like above, there could be a legit loop. I believe that Viper has one, although I can be mistaken. What happens; you get an admin or mod to look over the flash? That would only add unnecessary work and strain on those people, and lead to lack standards.

The voting system we have now is fine.

Stero seems to be making the roster update every two weeks now. I might ask him if he wants me to do it for him it on the weeks where he can't do it, just so we get one every week like normal. I'd leave it for Shanus to do it, but I know that Shanus is a busy little bee at the moment, as is reflected in his recent inactivity levels.

So, I was feeling bored, so I decided to check out this week's award winners. Since it had been quite some time since I played a horror-based point-and-click, I gave a go to the Review Crew Pick, FHTH: Chapter 2 - Part A. Not fucking bad, not fucking bad at all. I highly recommend y'all give it a go.

But that's not what the majority of this post is about (although I'm not belittling FHTH).

In the reviews, I saw that a lot of people were comparing the game to a little something called Exmortis. I had heard of the game, of course, but I'd never actually checked it out (kind of like how I only watched the entire Madness series a couple months ago).

I turned down the lights, plugged in the headphones, and plugged myself in to Exmortis.

...MOMMY NO :'(

Scary as fucking hell! There's only a handful of piss-your-pants moments, but you're on edge the entire game, listening to the background sounds and glancing over every piece of scenery, hoping that you won't scream too loud when something fucked up happens...very tense stuff. I took the "wrong" ending the first time I played, and it was very...evil and methodical, that's all I'll say. The 'real' ending isn't as scary, but it is much, much cooler.

So, I'm freaking out, right? And then I notice in the author comments that Exmortis 3 is being made. Which obviously means that there's a part two. I check the author's flash list, and yep, there it is.

I made the stupid mistake of playing Exmortis 2 before I had fully calmed down from the first installment. Exmortis 2 is MUCH more freaky than the first...the entire post-apocalyptic shit always gets Slash going. Game was a lot longer and harder, too.

I'd make a sex pun, but I'm still too jumpy.

I think the reason why it freaked me out so much is that the described apocalypse (which is very heavily detailed in journals and newspaper clippings throughout the game) is realistic. There are two kinds of horror genres---realistic and non-realistic.

Example of non-realistic would include virus-induced zombies. VIRUSES DO NOT WORK THAT WAY. It may be more scientific than, say, a demonic force ravaging the world, but it's (somewhat ironically) not as realistic. Other than the existence of demons, nothing precludes such a catastrophe...where with the virus/mutagen apocalypse shit, you have to throw an entire belief system out the window to accept it. I mean, what kind of motherfucking virus kills its host and then brings it back from the dead? With demons, it's just "we didn't know about them."

So yeah. Exmortis 2 was fucking chilling and fucking AWESOME. The ending was godly. M. Night Shyamalan could take lessons from this work---THAT is how you do a twist.

If any of you haven't played them already (kinda doubtful, as it's often only dumb ol' Slash who's late to the party), I highly recommend them.

NO SPOILERS IN THE EGB THOUGH.

I have a question for teh Slash:

What exactly does the Barracks Advancement Officer do? I was having a re-read of the EGB FAQ and saw this in the Officer section:

7. Hemlok
Barracks Advancement Officer
CURRENT STATUS: Needs to fucking post more
Rank: Commander

And it made me think - I've never actually seen Hemlok posting here since I joined (I don't think), and I wondered what his role of Barracks Advancement Officer entailed?

Ok, folks. There is absolutely NO WAY to put the vote bar at the end of the movie. You would need to upload your FLA, not your SWF then have NG extract the SWF and that would be a complete mess, so toss that right away.

Additionally, I have no loop at this time if I am the Viper you speak of. But a legit, unending loop-type thing would be that Pokemon Flash wherehe chooses the carp pokemon and it just Action Scripts. Also, what would you do for games? If you can't beat it you can't vote?

Naw, they just need to add the timer back in for the voting panel. It pops FAR too fast.

The voting system we have now is fine.

It is, but the time until voting needs to be put back to normal. Another change made because of Clock Day and all the UJ Flash that day. Clock Day 2 years ago, that is.
