Or they're just being Blammed. Just as good, but I still think the author should be punished. Just because the submissions didn't pass, doesn't change that they broke the rules.

For those who don't, it was a way to measure Portal activity. The DEFCON level ranged from 5 (very low or no significant activity) to 1 (chaotic, usually only on special events like Clock Day or 100000x races), and while it doesn't say "BLAM THESE" or "PROTECT THESE", it does let the soldiers here know that they are needed.
Obviously, it can serve as an alternate, safe way of informing members of spam attacks without condemning any particular author or group. It was actually rather useful, and maybe we should consider bringing it back.
Previously only Chief Barracks Officer EagleRock raised/lowered it, but since he's admittedly not around a lot, perhaps all officers should be able to declare a level whenever they wish, and all standard members may notify the Barracks in the event of a DEFCON 2 or 1 situation (very high rate of submissions).
DO NOT LIST ANY NON-RULEBREAKING FLASH AS 'TARGETS'; THE DEFCON SYSTEM IS ONLY MEANT AS A MEASURE OF PORTAL ACTIVITY. MEMBERS CAN MAKE THEIR OWN DECISIONS ABOUT THE SUBMISSIONS.

Yeah, the portal has been more active this evening. I've already gotten over 100 B/P today, and nearly 50 of those are Blams! Looks like the Save whoring culture is dying out! (at least for tonight).

Let me explain how the recruitment process works.
Currently you are in "Standby Status" while your case is considered. During this process, me and the other Barracks members will take a look at your record---posting quality, review history/quality, flash record, etc---and see if there are any problems.
Don't worry, we're not too strict about these things; we just want to make sure that you have a decent posting record (not too many one-liners and no flaming/spamming), don't make abusive reviews or rulebreaking flash, etc..
After a period of discussion amongst the Barracks members, I (or my superiors) will make the final call. Assuming that no objections are raised, this Standby Status should only last approximately 24 hours. I will PM you with the final verdict.

Yes, Cap'n Chu used to maintain the site and stuff, but honestly it wasn't much more than a forum when it was in use, with a few help pages added. And most discussion were about joining and rules anyway, so that wasn't too interesting either.
There were plans to make a new site (by me) with automatic updates of the list (roster, I think) and stuff, but I never really finished the project as it's only a small list and therefor automatizing it is pretty pointless.

It's the old EGB site- if you look at the member list you can see a lot of familiar faces (I'm number 20, under the name Donthurtme- I've come a LONG way since then, which wasn't long after I joined the Barracks).

Yeah, but you could have continued it. Now there`s no need to since we have our forums. =)
There were plans to make a new site (by me) with automatic updates of the list (roster, I think) and stuff, but I never really finished the project as it's only a small list and therefor automatizing it is pretty pointless.
Automated list updates? That's a pretty interesting idea. But I like more the manual rosters by Sterockicy, nostalgie maybye.
NOTE TO STEROCKICY:
You should consider putting BlueHippo and Casuality back on the roster. BlueHippo posted here quite a while ago, talking about the KK (I believe) and Casuality, well, I'm quoting him now.
Also, they're nice members. BlueHippo is a moderator and Casuality created NG Log. And the Portal Guard (I'm loving it!).

If a flash has passed judgment, you should PM Wade about it.
From my personal experience, you should include:
1. Informative subject line; "Stolen flash passed judgment" or something.
2. Links to the stolen flash and the author
3. Link to the original
4. Any other pertinent info---for example, if the author has any other flagged flash.
Don't be disheartened if he doesn't respond---he rarely does. But he does usually take care of it, although it can sometimes take a while. Wade is a very busy man.
