Tom himself refused to allow it on the BBS for any reason, and the same applies to the Portal. There's no way to "tastefully" spout it off---let alone be used for pointless idiocy in a shitty flash.

Outside of Newgrounds, I'm all about free speech (even the free speech that makes people assholes); but this is a privately owned website, and I fully support the NG position on the issue and will try to flag any flash or review containing the N-word or any other racial slurs.

EGB FORUM ANNOUNCEMENT

I was browsing the blog page today and saw a new user asking for help about Newgrounds. Rather than simply linking him to the FAQ, as many others do, I proceeded to write him a long PM about the basics of Newgrounds, including EXP/levels, B/P'ing, and Whistling, including FAQ links where appropriate.

It had a much more helpful and personal touch than a simple "read the FAQ, n00b".

When I was done, I realized that I had written something that could be useful for far more than one Newgrounder! With hardly any tweaking, the PM message could be used to help countless other newbies and guide them into the Newgrounds experience!

Not only that, but with a little modification, it could serve as a template for other EGB members to use to do the same!

So, I added a new Resources section to our forums. Its purpose? To provide all EGB members (and you spunky Guardsmen, heh) with a place to post your own help messages for quick copypasta!

All members can make a thread to post their stuff. For example, my thread can include a standard Recruitment Speech, a "What The Barracks Is About" message, help messages for B/P'ing and such, so I can have them ready at a moment's notice when a potential recruit shows up, or when someone inevitably mistakes this club for a Halo roleplay thread or something...which has happened in the past, lol.

Members can also look at each other's stuff and lift/modify as they see fit---we WANT good material to work with, after all, and some members are more eloquent than others, heh. However, remember that personalized messages are typically more friendly to contacts.

I highly recommend everyone make a thread in the Resources section, and include your own standard speeches for talking to newbies who need help, potential NGPD/EGB members, etc.. We want to reach out to the Newgrounds community, right? Reaching out to users through PM with clear, informative messages is a great way to do it.

It also means that I don't need to have so many FUCKING NOTEPAD DOCUMENTS ON MY COMPUTER, lol.

Who knows, heh. Regardless, the EGB can only benefit from helping Newgrounders out (especially Newbiegrounders). Not only does it provide an easy and engaging way to teach people about the site, but it also helps us scout out potential recruits for the future. :-D

You mean the end of day reports? I think that counts as spam posting if you're only posting your stats, so you'd probably have to include other things alongside it. I'm not sure though.

Alas, you are a civilian, good sir! This club is based on Blam and Protect points, and one must be ranked Private or higher (2500+ B/P) to be considered. Sorry.

How do you get B/P points? You go to the Flash Portal and voting on Under Judgment flashes (highlighted in purple).

A flash must pass several checkpoints to pass judgment. If it's below the required score at a checkpoint, it is deleted, and anyone who voted 0 or 1 on it will gain a Blam Point.

50 votes - 0.60
100 votes - 0.75
150 votes - 1.25
200 votes - 1.60
*Note---flashes with multiple co-authors must meet higher requirements, although the exact scores needed have not yet been specified.

After a flash passes 200 votes and has a score of 1.60 or higher, it is saved, and everyone who gave it a 2, 3, 4, or 5 gets a Protect Point. Also, once a flash has passed, it can never be deleted, regardless of how low its score gets. Only an admin or the author could remove it post-judgment.

Add up your Blam and Protect points to get your B/P total. The higher your total, the higher your rank---ranging from Civilian, like you, to Supreme Commander, like me. Higher ranks give more prestige and a boost to your vote power. Click here to see a list of all the ranks, including B/P requirements, badges, and the experience boost.

For example, my base voting power (determined by experience) is 6.86. I have over 30000 B/P points, making me a Supreme Commander, which means that I get a 60% boost---making my true voting power an impressive 10.98. This means that my votes are nearly 11 times higher than an unregistered voter's (oh snap).

Read the FAQ to find out more.

When you reach Security Guard (400+ B/P), you can apply to the Newgrounds Police Headquarters. So if you really want to join this club someday, go to the Portal and start voting! The sooner you get started, the sooner you can join the NGPD and, eventually, the Barracks.

It took longer with each progressive level due to the level curve. Here's a chart of the daily increments for each pre-redesign level, which might help to give you an idea of how long it could take:

In my opinion, it would be a good idea to bring it back. But posting it daily would be spam. If we bring it back, we should post it, like, every Saturday. Or along with the roster update.

Almost. I stood on level 9 for more than 1 ¹/² months. It was very annoying staying with the same level all the time. Good thing that we level up faster now.

That seems a little Orwellian to me. Everyone has different tastes...and, more importantly, some people only vote on what they like or don't like, leading to the same sort of effect.

I mean, look at Toocool100. Extreme case, but...lol. I know that sometimes, when I do a rushed hit-and-run on the Portal, I only watch the obvious good stuff, or the obvious shit, in order to save time.

Now, if something DOES seem really weird with someone, PM me about it. But without something concrete---pretty much nothing short of "I may as well five every movie by [insert group here] for the points"---no action will be taken.

I will hold no witch hunts.

Not a lot of point posting it with the roster update - that's basically like everyone individually reiterating their place on the roster. Like Slash said, if you do it, include something alongside it, so it's not solely a stat post.

Imagine users with higher levels, that have to stay with it for over a month. Now that must be a test of patience.

Waiting over a month isn't too bad. For example, for me, it takes 52 days to get from Level 24 to Level 25, which, in comparison with how long it used to take, isn't bad at all by my reckoning. I only have 16 more days to go.

To me the way he votes is the very epitomy of what is wrong with a lot of voters though- if he didn't have such a huge number of points I'm sure their would have been mention of him being punished for simply saving everything (and indeed taking requests from authors to save their work).

Good- another point to add to those you made... I get very few blam points these days simply because the majority of submissions that I vote 0 or 1 on still pass. Basically all my blams go on the obvious spam, almost all of which is mass voted through- I tend to pass a lot of poor submissions by inexperienced artists who need a bit of practice. As such in recent months I've been getting around 5:1 saves to blams, but in no way would I consider my voting style to be against the ethic of the barracks.

Just asking, of course, because I'd want to know what the Barracks' opinion would be on this issue if I ever saw it in the Portal.

Technically it would not be allowed. The admins have, in the past, said that the older pre-existing flashes including hentai slideshows and strip quizzes can stay for history's sake, but new stuff should not be allowed.

The flash has been blammed, but what caught my eye is this:

(Score at Death: 2.09/5.00)

Looks like the higher requirements for multiple co-authors is what doomed this flash. Kind of sad that it got that high of a score, but at least it WAS blammed.

If anyone can find out what, precisely, the requirement increase is for multiple co-authors, please inform me so that I can add the information to the FAQ's and resources on our forums.

Haha, no I didn't. Awesome! I knew that my voting power was pretty high, but now I know exactly how I stand compared to others! :-D

As long as an unsuitable submission is off the site, the EGB did what it could.
