Nope, although we do talk about a variety of stuff when things are slow. Our primary purpose is to protect Newgrounds, and is multi-pronged in practice.

I love that speech =D

Hey everyone! So yeah... *looks down and shuffles foot uncomfortably* ...I've been gone for a while. Thank God we have some great members here keeping things tidy...I think Slash deserves a great deal of thanks for that especially. My problem is I keep getting involved in things that take up time. I'm now an officer in the kinship in Lord of the Rings Online, and I'm try to learn guitar...go figure. Either way, I'll try to pop in occasionally.

People have asked me about the Barracks Under Fire story. I still have plans to finish it, but I don't quite feel right doing it with Phantom being absent. As it turns out when I wrote it, he was an important part of the story (duh). I WILL finish it, but the time to do so has not yet arose...

Nice to see. Here's my info:

B/P Rank (Must be your real one): Elite Guard Supreme Commander
Name (Newgrounds Alias): EagleRock
Short Name: Eagle
Combat Class: Melee
Primary Weapon: 2H Sword
Secondary Weapon: Throwing Knife
Any additional information (Character background, special physical features, powers): Um...I rule? Yeah, let's go with that.

That's all I got.

I completely understand, because I have the same problem. First it was WoW, and now it is hanging out on LOTRO with you. I need to shuffle my priorities soon.

I'm so tired, I've been driving around all day getting all my stuff out of storage, bringing it home, unloading it, and going back to the storage to get more. Been doing it since 10am and now, at 6:45pm (England time, remember) I've just finished for the day. Nightmare.

Still, the Rugby 6 nations England vs. France match kicks off in an hour, so I'm going to sit back with a curry and one of those HUGE bottles of Cobra beer and relax my ASS off.

Although, saying that, I'm going to be dropping pace fairly soon. I think I've established a good enough lead to stay ahead though.

Question

I think that is easier to get blams in the week (Monday-Friday)
than getting them on the weekend (ehm... you know weekend... sat & sun)

I'm not sure how to day it.. but

do you guys think the same way...?
have you notice that...?
or you consider it's the opposite?

I've noticed it too. I think it's mostly because the 12 to 16-year-olds (and very much biased to the lower end of that scale, with the mean age around 13) that make up the majority of the protect-whore community, who would be willing to pass a 10MB blank screen for the save point, who have never heard of the 0 vote, have school and homework on the weekdays and are free to save-whore on the weekends.

Well, of course. In the middle of the week (Monday-Friday) the majority of Newgrounds has school. This decreases the members online population significantly, and some of the older, more experienced members from earlier are at work but may still be able to B/P. However, the people who vote just for points rather than fairness are made up of all ages, but most of them are kids.

Then comes the weekend where the kids run rampant and do the whole "no watching and voting 5" thing. I don't know what we can do to lessen the amount of crap passing other than just voting fairly, but something needs to be done. By the administration to say the least. I understand they are aware of the problem, but something has to be done to fix the broken system.

That's just my two cents.

I remember seeing a post on the BBS by Wade about this here, 4th post from the bottom of the page, saying basically what we're saying, that people just need to start voting appropriately rather that protect-whoring.

I imagine if there was anything that the admins could do about it, they would, but I guess they just don't want to run this place like some sort of prison, where people are impositioned for voting wrongly on something. Remember that voting is all down to personal taste, so even if a submission IS total crap, there's nothing the admins can do to stop a user voting 2,3,4, or 5 on it. That would be like them dictating what taste you must have to be a member of Newgrounds, which is frankly ludicrous. I mean, if a user sees a submission that is crap, but gives them a cheap laugh, who's to tell them that they CAN'T vote for it to pass judgment?

Obviously it's the lesser of two evils, because yeah, it's annoying to see submissions pass judgement undeservedly and have the authors bragging about their 100+ submissions on Newgrounds, but at the same time, if the admins tighten up the voting rules in the portal, it would hardly be anything more than a dictatorship around here, which isn't what NG is about.

All we can do is keep voting how we feel is right, and try to set some sort of example. If it helps, then great, but if it doesn't help, then oh well, just keep doing what we do.

Sorry, but 'Elite Guard' starts at the rank of Private. I know this is confusing for newer members who weren't here before the redesign (when the rank of Private and above were actually prefixed with 'Elite Guard'), but you're more than welcome to apply to the EGB when you attain the 2,500 B/P prerequisite.

In the meantime, you might be interested in joining the Newgrounds Police Headquarters when you reach the rank of Security Guard. The NGPD operates in much the same way as we do, and many of its members 'graduate' to the EGB when then acquire enough points.

You must be a private (2,500 b/p) or higher to join the Elite Guard Barracks. Consider joining the NG Police Headquarters once you have gained the rank of Portal Security

I agree. I flexed my whistle's shiny muscles on that submission, and gave it a 0 to top it off.

The worst thing is when these types of submissions pass judgment before they can be sent up for admin review.

Yeah, I think that you and I better start posting more regularly so we don't look like new guys. You've been here since page 1 and I page 187; I look like a new guy every time I post here though. I think it is time I work towards an officer position; that way I'm restrained to stay active. Hitting EGSC is also a must in the future. I've been here long enough to have hit it; in fact I could be in the top 40. I'm so fucking lazy.

On another note, I think I earned a decent amount of B/P today. One thing that angers me is that I vote fairly and get little B/P in return. I guess that's just the life of an honest B/Per. I honestly think we need to do inspections on members though, as I don't think some members of the EGB are always voting fairly. I'm not pointing anybody out, but I don't think if you've been voting fairly you should ever have something around the likes of 1,000 Blams and 10,000 Saves.

Just call me old school, though. =(

It's... the N word. It has historical connotations to slavery, to the forcible removal of blacks from their homes in Africa, the transportation to America in stinking middens of ships where the Africans were chained up below deck and forced to go to the bathroom on each other, the centuries of slavery, and the years afterwards of discrimination, of crosses burned in front of the homes of blacks, of lynchings, of separate lunch counters and separate fountains and separate bathrooms. All of those were accompanied by that one word, beginning with N and ending in R... It's just the most historically hateful word in the United States dialects of the English language.

Because they are.

Tom himself refused to allow it on the BBS for any reason, and the same applies to the Portal. There's no way to "tastefully" spout it off---let alone be used for pointless idiocy in a shitty flash.

Outside of Newgrounds, I'm all about free speech (even the free speech that makes people assholes); but this is a privately owned website, and I fully support the NG position on the issue and will try to flag any flash or review containing the N-word or any other racial slurs.
