Last year's Clock Day made my blood boil.
My first Clock Day in '06 was pretty fun. I stayed up the whole 24-hour run, B/P'ing fairly (although more leniently than usual), submitting my Clock Day flash (my first 'big project')...swell stuff. I even made a clock mask for the event.
I would pull the 24 hours, but I'll be on vacation this year... Any other week I'd go to New Jersey without any doubts, but my uncle had to go and pick the worst possible week of the year. Especially when you factor in that the last time I went to NJ on that week in 2001, my Internet access died on me.
But in '07, things were horrible. The average quality of the flashes being submitted was much, much lower, and many spammers were submitting dozens of flashes on alts---I believe Fleek actually submitted over a hundred flashes that day, all of which passed.
Knowing Fleek, I wouldn't doubt it. That guy submitted 20 on New Year's, all of them crap, and that just to try to get the first submission of 08 (he failed, Bahamut got it).
It's okay to be lenient on Clock Day, but to allow such trash to pass is inexcusable. I ended up quitting halfway through the afternoon out of disgust last year.
This year I'll be giving it the full run again, but my leniency will be greatly reduced or non-existent. Newgrounds has gotten spoiled with its 1000+ protection Clock Days, and I'll be doing everything I can to fight it. I will also be carefully recording any suspicions of alt-spamming and report every single case that's backed up by evidence.
Good, yes, the rulebreakers will go down in agony before the untold might of Supreme Commander SlashFirestorm! And if I can access the Internet that week, I will join you in taking out those who abuse and exploit Newgrounds.
Grrr.
I think it has something to do with much lower quality of incoming users in 2007. Take yoshi77777, for example. Everything he does is for (insert stat here) Count +1. Posting on the Forums, making Flash, being co-authored on a dozen knockoffs of AfroUnderscoreStud's Pokémon series, +1 +1 +1! You all know his record (because he came this way before, and ended up turned away because of it), so I won't go any farther. And there's others too, users who don't care about the site, but only about points. Other than me and a few others, almost all the active 07ers are trying to do only one thing: become the biggest statwhore on NG. Not that all statwhoring is a problem, everyone here does it a lot (including me), and some pride in anything (as long as it's not pride in something like murder) is harmless, as long as it's in moderation. However, what some newer users do, voting 5 on Fleek's movies for Save Count +1 (and similarly for the spam movies that the Kitty Krew sometimes still submits), posting poorly in the Forums for Post Count +1, and so on... It's harmful to the site, both in the technical sense (server space, bandwidth), and to the site's popular image (imagine what a normal person thinks when he sees "womens rights is a joke" without knowing who Fleek is in the first place).
