So you're fine, heh.

If you consider that the "police officer" ranks fall under the implied "Newgrounds Police Department," this would imply the armylike ranks fall under the "Newgrounds Army." I'd prefer a response from Wade or someone to what the armylike ranks fall under now, if they are still the Elite Guard. Oh well.
Well, this problem won't affect us for a while, as we know why this place is called the EG Barracks. To newer members, we point out the fact if they bring it up in conversation, simple as that. The rank name changes doesn't affect who we are, or what we do, just like the name of the company you work for. (e.g Federal Express / FedEx - They're still delivery boys, regardless of the name)

Exactly my point. Most people just refer to this thread as "The Barracks", safe in the knowledge that it is a place for the Elite Guard to lounge about.

That's the only thing we need to change. I'm happy to see that we've grandfathered our previous members into the Barracks, I'd hate to see them kicked out until they make the grade again.

I think the submissions in the portal dont stay UJ for very long now, but that just might be me.
I think that's because everyone's come back like crazy.

Very good point. My only concern is that, say, in the future, all the post-redesign members will not have known us as the Elite Guard and this club would seem to fade. Whereas our namesake was our rankings in the past, it seems like we'll simply be making it all up. While that won't be true, that's what the perception of those new people will be.
Exactly the point - the stuff on Newgrounds has changed, but we have stayed as the Elite Guard Barracks - people know us as that and that is how we should stay.
Exactly. Again, I had no intention of changing the name. I just hope that they continue to know us for what we are.

Fair enough. You're making me think that our namesake isn't exactly as important as I first thought it was. We'll be fine.

That's exactly what I thought. But, to be fair, those that were in the Elite Guard pre-redesign and got kicked out need to stay active. If they become inactive, they will be removed from the roster and will need to regain Elite Guard status to rejoin. However, anyone that would wish to stay will stay active, anyway, so this won't affect anyone by making them leave unfairly. Also, this is fair to new recruits who need to work for 2,500 B/P. That way, someone who posted here a few times some months ago can't come back with less and get in.
Incidentally, who remembers these?
DEFCON UPDATE:
Even though the Portal is slow, we're at DEFCON 3. The churn is very fast since the redesign, so we need to keep on our toes to make sure flash aren't mass-voted (up or down). Keep your eyes out often, as I've seen completely new UJ lists after only a few minutes! Also, the fact that the link does not darken will hamper our B/P abilities, so be sure to tread the Portal carefully!

I see what you mean. there really isnt alot at a time, but if there are 5 UJ, then as soon as they're done out come some more. Its continuous. I think that alot of people are in the FP because the UJ's are getting done pretty quickly.

Exactly. That's why you need to keep on your toes. The churn rate (as I call it) is very fast, even though the UJ amount is low. This warrants at least DEFCON 3.

I know of it (I think probably everyone does), but I've never actually got around to playing it, even though I think I have a copy lying around somewhere. I was wodnering has the Barracks ever thought about anything like Ventrillo or something. What it is is like a PalTalk basically except only certain people can get in it. I thought maybe to keep us all in touch or even just to conversate, mayeb it'd be cool. I don't know though, some feedback.

That's not a bad idea. I do have a Debian Linux server I could pop Vent on. For one, I need to fix it (it's down right now, but it's not in my house, so it's hard to get to), and I'll need to get people to install Vent. If anything, we can also use PalTalk like the NG Fan Room.

That's all I need.
I'm actually going to do something I wanted to do for the Barracks for a while: write a story. It'll be similar to the Battle Royale stories that were popping up on the BBS a while ago. Everyone in the Barracks is of course welcome to be in the story.
If you want to be part of the story, I'll need you to choose the following for your character:
1) A primary weapon (SMG, Rifle, etc.)
2) A secondary weapon (Pistol)
3) A playing style
4) A small paragraph to describe your playing style (optional)
For the weapons, you'll need to choose a counter-terrorist weapon (any weapon that doesn't say "terrorist only"). If you are unfamiliar with the weapons in CS, you can check out this list here.
For a playing style, choose from the following:
Team-Player - Your main focus is staying with the rest of the group and keeping strength in numbers. Your strengths are in your teammates, while your weakness is being alone.
Camper - You are more of a loner than anything else, and usually divert from the pack. Your strength is your stealthy gameplay and your ability to ambush people. Your weaknesses, however, are open areas and being outnumbered.
Rusher - Eager to get into battle, you are always the one that runs into the fray in an attempt to surprise the enemy. You are strong in that you are brave and intimidating. However, you are prone to being ambushed due to your quick nature.
Sniper - Your main goal is to protect the rest of the squad, a base, or another point of interest with your sniping skills. You are excellent at long-range fire and assisting your teammates. However, melee fights are your weakness.
Grenadier - As a specialist in grenades, flashbangs, and smoke bombs, you always have the ability to lob a grenade around a corner or toss a flashbang into a room to immobilize your opponent. You excel at the element of surprise and are at home in close spaces, but weaken in large, open spaces.
Note that all 5 playing styles, for the purpose of the story, are equal and that there is no best or worst playing style. Also, if you are unsure of what weapon or playing style to choose from, you can give me a small paragraph of how you would most likely play counter-strike. I can give you complementary weapons and figure out your playing style.
I already know how the story will begin and end, so it's just a matter of filling in the participants and actually fleshing out the story. I'll be looking forward to your responses!
I have played CS a few times so this should be neat. I'm in!
Primary Weapon: M4A1 Carbine with Silencer
Secondary Weapon: Bowie Knife
Playing Style: Rusher
Playing Styles Info:
I'm one of the people who don't hold back. They want to get in there and take down the target asap. Though sometimes my head gets a little full of itself and that can weaken me. Overall I am a very touch and rough fighter.

Ah, well in that case... :). I'm still actually in the Battle Royale competition in the Mafia, so I've been writing a lot recently myself. It's always nice to have a good read every now and again, and I'd like to see more in the Barracks.
If you want to be part of the story, I'll need you to choose the following for your character:
Well I most certainly do, so here goes... this will all be based off how I play Enemy Territory, so if it doesn't apply to counter strike then just alter it a little!
1) A primary weapon (SMG, Rifle, etc.)
I've always been a fan of the SMGs. The MP5-Navy sounds the most similar to my trusty Thompson from ET, so that would be my weapon of choice!
2) A secondary weapon (Pistol)
Normally I'd use dual colts, but as the only dual weapon listed sounds useless I'll have to take a different approach... the USP looks nice, I usually need something that can be fired quickly in close quarters, once my SMG ammo is out.
3) A playing style
Again I don't know exactly how CS works, but ET is all about completing particular objectives (dynamiting a structure, stealing documents etc), and I am known as an objective hound. I don't do a huge amount of killing (though I can wipe out a room pretty fast if I catch them off guard), I just rush in over and over until I get what I am after :). So rusher it is for this as well.
4) A small paragraph to describe your playing style (optional)
Well as I said above I like to rush for objectives rather than go after killing sprees. That means in ET I usually take the engineering (for building/dynoing objectives) or medic (for capture objectives) classes- I don't know if there are equivalents in CS or not. I like to move fast and am pretty much always firing, diving into the middle of the fray and taking down anyone that tries to get between me and my goal.
Hope all that is ok :)

That's perfect. I can work with that.

The USP is a good, reliable .45. It's a fast and relatively powerful pistol. If you want pure speed, you would want the FiveseveN. The 5-7 is fast, but it is a pea-shooter. I'll put you down as a USP for now though.
3) A playing style
Based on what you said, I think that you would be best described as a Grenadier. The only objectives in CS are planting bombs, defusing bombs, rescuing hostages, etc. Since everyone does that by default, I didn't bother putting that as a playing style. However, I'll note you as a goal-oriented player that's quick to battle.
Hope all that is ok :)
Perfect. Again, good thing I said for people to give a blurb about themselves, as it'll help me understand your character better when I write the story.
Keep em coming! I have 4 players so far (Me, Phantom, RuSH, and Sentio). I'll need quite a bit more for the story!

Ah, ok. In ET you just get a default pistol (one type for axis, one for allies), that can later be upgraded to dual, so it has a solid balance of power and speed with firing. I prefer to be able to fire quickly, but not if it is going to give me a pea-shooter that isn't going to take down an enemy fast :). The USP sounds like a nice balance.

Well, the USP is the default CT pistol. It's a good gun, and it has a silencer as well. That'll be the best substitute for your ET pistol.

Good. Now we have at least one of each character type. Also, we have an autosniper on our hands...very nice :-)

Which reminds me, I haven't played CS in who knows how long.

Don't forget to give me your character info for the story I'm making!
lol hm, okay. Note that Slash has never played CS before though, lol.
Primary weapon: Steyr Tactical Machine Pistol (vaguely similiar to Slash's semi-auto pistols)
Secondary: Desert Eagle .50 AE (isn't this what the Agents used in the Matrix?)
Playing style: Rusher.
In multi-player shooters, I tend to charge into battle regardless of how many enemies there are. I usually pick one and shoot like a madman until one of us dies. If I live, I'll immediately back off after killing my target to restore health/gather more ammo.
My biggest weakness is running out of ammo quickly as I rain bullets on my target. :-(
incidentally, the 'real' character of Slash Firestorm is a fan of niten'ichi (katana and wakizashi) before gaining the ability to produce blades using his demonic energy, and uses a pair of unnamed multi-function pistols as back-up weapons.
Here's my info for the story:
1) M249 PARA Light Machine Gun
2) Glock 18C Select Fire
3) Rusher
4)I don't play CS that much, but when I do: I usually will stay in one spot for a while trying to pick off players from where I'm hiding, while moving every (about 15 seconds) to a new place to sit and pick off other players..unless they find me unexpectedly : ( If my goal is to protect a certain player on my team, I will sacrifice myself by rushing the enemy, while using as much fire power as possible. So there you go : ) Can't wait to read the story!!!
My tax dollars go to pay for a war that I and most of America dont even want. Yet I can't even afford Health insurance for my family. Hmmm..... Sig Pic by madknt
