Well, this problem won't affect us for a while, as we know why this place is called the EG Barracks. To newer members, we point out the fact if they bring it up in conversation, simple as that. The rank name changes doesn't affect who we are, or what we do, just like the name of the company you work for. (e.g Federal Express / FedEx - They're still delivery boys, regardless of the name)
Very good point. My only concern is that, say, in the future, all the post-redesign members will not have known us as the Elite Guard and this club would seem to fade. Whereas our namesake was our rankings in the past, it seems like we'll simply be making it all up. While that won't be true, that's what the perception of those new people will be.
Which brings me neatly to my point about BBS posting in general. As one of the most prolific posters on NG over the past few years, I've been privvy to seeing a few clubs fall by the wayside. This club is way too popular to do that, as it's the clubs who only get a post every day or two that struggle - quite the opposite of us.
Exactly the point - the stuff on Newgrounds has changed, but we have stayed as the Elite Guard Barracks - people know us as that and that is how we should stay.
Exactly. Again, I had no intention of changing the name. I just hope that they continue to know us for what we are.
New users will come looking at us because of the name they see on the BBS or links in people's signatures. Theyn they will learn what we do, our puropse etc. I'd say it is rarely a case of "Hey, I've reached Private, what clubs can I join?"
Exactly my point. Most people just refer to this thread as "The Barracks", safe in the knowledge that it is a place for the Elite Guard to lounge about.
Fair enough. You're making me think that our namesake isn't exactly as important as I first thought it was. We'll be fine.
A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. I know it's a sin to quote that pot smoking twat in my eyes, but what the fuck.

DEFCON UPDATE:
Even though the Portal is slow, we're at DEFCON 3. The churn is very fast since the redesign, so we need to keep on our toes to make sure flash aren't mass-voted (up or down). Keep your eyes out often, as I've seen completely new UJ lists after only a few minutes! Also, the fact that the link does not darken will hamper our B/P abilities, so be sure to tread the Portal carefully!
I see what you mean. there really isnt alot at a time, but if there are 5 UJ, then as soon as they're done out come some more. Its continuous. I think that alot of people are in the FP because the UJ's are getting done pretty quickly.
It's quite a steady procession, so I'm lapping up the points while I can. Hopefully, I'll get my averages up and be closer to the T-Minus 2k milestone by the end of the week

If you want to be part of the story, I'll need you to choose the following for your character:
1) A primary weapon (SMG, Rifle, etc.)
2) A secondary weapon (Pistol)
3) A playing style
4) A small paragraph to describe your playing style (optional)
Cool idea. I'll take an AWM as my primary weapon and a Desert Eagle .50 as my secondary. Obviously, I'll be a sniper and now it's time for the fun part:
"Hey! No smoking in the building!" Came the cry of a busybody pen pusher from admin, as he hurried across to where Coop was lying prone, taking aim at the target dummies from his vantage point. He manouvered his big cigar in his mouth to talk, but didn't take his eyes from the target.
"You know, the smoke from explosives is much more harmful than tobacco smoke. Bite me." He painstakingly corrected the sight on his rifle, in order to get the best shot
"I'm still going to have to ask you to put it out, Trooper." Coop never wore his name or rank on the field, just in case they found out who he was and came after him with more than he could handle. He struck a match off the stubble on his cheek and lit his cigar, uncaringly.
"Look at the sniper dummy on the building to the left of the Church." The pen pusher grabbed his binoculars and focused.
"It looks like a Bottle Cap from a bottle of Bud, where his eye should be."
"Close," Coop squeezed off a round and turned the bottle cap into a frothy mess. It was a bottle of Bud." He stood up and shouldered his rifle,s tanding to hsi full height. "Now, there was something about rules, wasn't there, Private?" The pen pusher looked very afraid as he just realised who he had ordered to extinguish his cigar...
