It was locked years ago, though, and possibly removed entirely because I can no longer find it. Good call since people were abusing it, but now abusive reviews are becoming as much of a problem as they were in the days that thread was extant. I do remember the thread you're talking about, now that you mention it.

I think the whole whistle system needs a bit of an overhaul, honestly. They already removed whistling flashes. Either that functionality should be reinstated, or the current whistling function revamped, so that whistling doesn't negatively affect your whistle unless the mod marks the content as harmless, rather than how it now degrades the whistle if a mod doesn't get around to the review in a certain amount of time or if not enough others also whistle it. Maybe have a review flag put the review in question on a list for mods to pop in and look over. That'd be simple -- unless it already does that.

I have a lot of respect for review mods, drudging through the thousands of junk/abusive reviews on the content here. There's more reviews on the collective portal classics than there are submissions total, I think. It's a hard thing to manage.

It does. :P But they should fix it so one flag makes a review pop up for the mods to see. It takes a few flags on one review to actually become noticeable for the mods to check out, which is stupid. I mean, in a way I can see that it makes less reviews pop up as a good thing because there are reviews out there that only get flagged as abusive once by someone who doesn't know what they're doing or something like that. Nonetheless, I think they should change it anyways.

Exactly! Like the thousands upon thousands on hentai games that are just "gud", or the all caps, or the "fiven". Abusive reviews are mostly just buried under all the crap or the well-intentioned "this is stolen" nowadays. Then there are those that tread the line. I get a few every year that are zero-star on a decent work, one sentence, no constructive criticism, etc.

Well, considering the EGB used to be a lounge for the old Elite Guard ranks, i.e. those ranked Private and above in B/P, and it always has been a center for reporting stolen flashes, I don't think much would change. Granted, the mods may not frequent as much.

I remember days when we had @EagleRock managing the stat list, writing "Barracks Under Fire", the semi-weekly story we had going on. It kept a lot of the veteran voters talking about the portal. Those were good times.

Yes. This would make sure all the potentially abusive reviews were weeded out early on rather than after several people have spotted it. Abusive reviews make content creators shy away from here more often than not.

I wish we could revive the older EGB members. A lot of them seem to have moved on with their lives, and you can clearly see the difference in the portal. Most users now are just voting for saves or exp. Few are going for the content. Maybe if we could get a good group of people together and encourage some competition that would also help. I know for the B/P hungry, Portal Guard still functions.

I remember when I first got a garbage whistle. It was a couple of years ago and I was trying really hard to flag the right reviews to get whistle points. I was still a noob at knowing what counted as abusive and what didn't. I woke up one day, checked my stats and saw I had a garbage whistle. I came across a game which I feel is ripping off a small puzzle game series. The franchise in question is lavaboy and aquagirl. It is a badly drawn game stealing backgrounds and using similar characters. It's a bit buggy, and many people who've played point out this game is a ripoff. I was wondering if a you could look into this "darkboy and lightgirl" game.

Well, we would have to have some sort of lounge. EGB used to (and still somewhat does, although to a lesser extent) fill that requirement. NG banned blam clubs a long time ago, but that's old news, and I see "v0te appr0priately" hasn't gotten anyone into trouble, which is good news. However, we need some sort of space to direct people to to discuss the portal and its contents and some form of encouragement to keep them coming back, like the old EGB B/P list @EagleRock used to run in an excel spreadsheet, although NGlog made this nearly obsolete when it became a thing. In order to stay an active member, tracked on the list, checking in and keeping some pace of B/P'ing was necessary. The competition kept people coming back to the lounge and thus motivated them to keep patrolling the portal.

If it wouldn't flood the mods with too many notifications when it came time for us to report flashes, the EGB could resume that function and draw more users to help out with the portal. To make things simple, we could simply @ tag moderators for stolen flashes and important notices. Thoughts?

I'm thinkin this one's ok. All the games for this author on Newgrounds have a very quick flash of "Game by Gregor Haag" and he lists that freegames site on his NG userpage. He's a longtime account holder, and he submits only a few per year, instead of 2 per day. Despite the different username, he may be legit.

On the other hand, the freegames site has works by other authors in addition to Gregor Haag, and at the bottom of the main page, they mention that they take free games from around the internet. "We try to collect all free flash games, especially the top online games..."

If we find out otherwise, tho, we'll yank his stuff. Good call, tho. None of us is spot on all the time. :)

I got a white screen after loading, but I waited a bit and it did come up once my computer finished processing it all. It's actually pretty cool. Very similar to original Metroid, kinda. :)

Kind of expected that to happen. Not super desirable outcome, though in this specifc scenario where UJ stuff was just piling up like crazy I think it did overall more bad than good. There is actually non-purple stuff in the list visible now again.

I have watched it now, must have missed it earlier. Was indeed not bad, though I generally have anxiety towards hospitals and doctors and stuff like that. Glad that to hear that you feel less pain now.

General tip for everyone, when you notice that you have pain somewhere in your body or feel for example dizzy for multiple days, please go visit a doctor. I remember when I was 17, I had Shingles in the waist region, thought it was just some skin irritation until I almost passed put from the pain that I had when walking up stairs. Another time I had a cold and almost got a Pneumonia, I could barely breathe and slept for 14 hours straight just to wake up for an hour and then sleep again. Thankfully I went to see a doctor before it got worse. Fun times.
