It is nice to meet you. I am Cootie. I guess you could say that I am "the rookie" around here. What I lack in stolen flash finding ability I make up for in my ability to bake and look dashing.
Welcome to the EGB, where almost everybody outranks you (old motto). As it turns out, not a lot has changed in the flash portal since I went under the radar. Rates and over all quality seems the same. Nice to be back where I'm known, it's somewhat of an E-ego boost.
Who are you, again?
:-)
Great to see one of the EGB legends back in action! Even if it's for a visit, it's always great to see some familiar faces around here.

IP bans apply of course to the Internet Protocol that that is received from said computer, which can be goofed around with, but there are other parameters to identifying people that don't involve IP, I'm not sure whether Newgrounds, being located in the US, has access to such tools or if it's reserved strictly for law enforcement and such, but if need be, there is a way to pin-point pretty much every user and the unique signature his hardware/software leaves, even online.
Perhaps Eagle will have more info than me, it is his line of work, after all.
Well, the problem with IP banning is the following:
Dynamic IP addresses - Even if you were a complete moron and had no clue on how to get around an IP ban, most ISP's issue out their addresses on a dynamic basis...meaning, every time your modem or gateway connects to your ISP to get online, it requests an address. The ISP then has a DHCP service which allots an IP address from a huge pool that they own. Then, that IP address is given to your modem/gateway for you to connect. This "DHCP Lease" is usually for a set time, say, 72 hours. Every 72 hours, if your modem is still online, it renews the lease. However, if you go offline and your lease ran up, you will get a fresh new address. Even if you keep your house up 24-7-365, you will eventually lose your lease at some point and get a new IP address. I tend to change up 2-3 times a year just due to power outages, maintenance, or whatever.
And that's if you're stupid. If you're smart, you can IP spoof, proxy, or do whatever it takes to get past your IP ban. So, they're great in theory, but in reality are nothing more than a short-term solution.
The real solution would be to MAC-address ban, but that's a pain in the ass...also, you can spoof a MAC-address. This is why people like me say that there is no such thing as Internet security...there are ALWAYS ways around it.
