This medicine makes him a little dizzy at times, so he can't take a standing shower - instead, he requires daily sponge-bathing in a tub full of warm yak's milk.

BULLSHIT! I don't have any fungus at all. I know this is all in good fun, but let's keep hygiene out of the equation, shall we? Anyway, I think I have a much better punishment for him.

You get to wash the dishes for the next month and you don't get to complain about how greasy or dirty they happen to be. Basically, you'll be our busboy for the next month.

Well, your whistle status shows us you clearly know what you're doing when it comes to flagging abusive flash and reviews. You also have a couple hundred posts above 2,000 so you obviously know how to handle the BBS. Your badge is above basic requirements. It's not my call, but on a basic investigation, you seem like you'd be a credit to your portal.

Hey there, always good to see an enthusiastic potential recruit. Here's how the recruitment process works around here.

First, I will present you with the shortened code of conduct for the Barracks, along with links to the relevant FAQ's on our forums. You must read them, understand them, and post here again confirming that you accept those principles. A simple "yes, I agree" will be sufficient. This process serves two purposes:

1) Ensuring that you're not a "drive-by applicant" who asks to join and then never comes back, and

2) Ensuring that you know how we operate so there won't be any complications in the future, such as "wait, we're not supposed to be mass voting?".

After you agree to the code of conduct, the Barracks community will discuss your qualifications and decide whether to allow you into the group. Our requirements aren't too strict; beyond the main qualifications of 2500+ B/P and a Bronze Whistle or better, we'll be looking for sufficient post quality (low number of one-liners, intelligent posts that contribute to the topic), helpful reviews, any potentially problematic flashes, stuff like that. After discussion and a vote, I'll make the final call and PM you with the results. Assuming that no objections are raised, the process usually takes a day or two.

Here is our abbreviated Code of Conduct. Read it, learn it, and post again with confirmation of your understanding. If you can't abide by these principles, say so.

*****

1. Voting fairly.

This is the foundation of the Elite Guard Barracks. All members are expected to give every flash a fair vote, regardless of who made it or what their group affiliations are. We do not target any flash group, not favorably or in opposition; our only enemies are those who break the rules of the site, not those who merely bend them.

Everyone has a different definition of quality, and all members are expected to vote based on what they honestly feel a flash deserves, not on whether they think the flash will pass or be blammed. While Barracks members are proud of their high ranks, and are eager to compete with others, a high B/P score means nothing if achieved through petty point-whore voting, and any member who admits to doing so will be removed from the organization.

2. Stopping Portal abuse.

Numerous stolen, malicious, and unsuitable flash are submitted to the Flash Portal every day, and it is our job to ensure that as many of them are removed as possible. Members are expected to report any suspicious flash to the Barracks, including any evidence or doubts that they might have, and only whistle something if they are sure, beyond a reasonable doubt, that it is whistle-worthy.

Just as with B/P, points mean nothing if achieved through inappropriate means. There should be no blind rush to whistle a flash that is merely suspected of wrongdoing; it's better to let an uncertain case go by rather than wrongly whistle an innocent submission. If evidence of wrongdoing is discovered after a flash passes judgment, we can always (and will always) inform Wade of our findings.

In the case of a beyond-reasonable-doubt rulebreaking flash, members are encouraged to share their results with the Newgrounds Police Department and the Newgrounds Department of Defense.

3. Cleaning up the review system.

Members are expected to be familiar with the review guidelines and whistle abusive reviews when they come across them, and report severe cases of abuse to a review mod. Additionally, members are expected to write helpful reviews, offering constructive criticism and remaining civil even when the author refuses to do so. We must set a good example for other Newgrounders, in hopes that they will improve their own reviews as well.

4. Setting an example for others to follow.

Barracks members are expected to post intelligently, contributing to threads rather than merely dropping a one-liner opinion on it. Flaming, spamming, and other ban-worthy behavior is strictly prohibited, and extreme misbehavior will lead to removal from the EGB.

Members are also expected to act civilly towards all Newgrounders. You are expected to be helpful and patient when dealing with newer members, whether simply showing them the FAQ or explaining more complex concepts that they do not understand. Concepts such as fair voting, intelligent posting/reviewing, and keeping an open mind are essential for newer members to learn, and we are just the ones to teach them.

For those with more experience, you are expected to show respect and understand that they may, in fact, know more about Newgrounds than you do, even if you're a seasoned veteran. This applies both to fellow Barracks members and Newgrounders in the general population.

Members are expected to put reasonable effort into any flash or audio submissions, and be careful with who they become Portal Buddies with. We are quite generous with our definition of reasonable effort; examples of unacceptable submissions would be static images, single frames, ridiculously small loops, or purposefully bad music. Anyone submitting rulebreaking content would, obviously, be removed from the Barracks and reported to Wade.

5. Not starting shit.

As mentioned above, the Barracks has no enemies beyond those who break the rules of the site. Our roster has included current and former members of various flash groups, including the Clock Crew, Barney Bunch, and Kitty Krew, and we are open to anyone willing to follow our principles. Barracks members are expected to be civil to others and not start fights, and anyone found to be starting shit with anyone, even if they deserve it, will be removed. You are representing the Barracks with your actions, and if your actions do not reflect our principles, you will not be a part of the organization.

6. Remaining active with the group.

Barracks members are expected to remain reasonably active in the thread, as well as with their duties. Those who are inactive for long periods (months) may be removed from the roster at any time, and rollcalls are occasionally sent out to all members to determine who is active. Members who expect to be inactive for some time due to IRL reasons (such as school, employment, vacation, etc) should inform the Barracks in advance.

Following those rules sounds like basic common sense, so of course I agree.

While I admit, I do have a lot of recent short posts, the cause of such is because I post in the General forum and lengthy replies are hardly warranted there. I'll also add that I'm not the most active user, but according to the rules you posted I don't foresee a problem in that department, as I am online atleast every other day and I'm pretty good as spotting stolen/illegal/malicious flash.

I think I can do some good to this club and I hope you accept me.

On a side note, is this club strict on only talking about abusive flash, etc or can there be general discussion here if it's kept to a minimum and civil? Just curious is all.

Cheers

As long as it doesn't get too out of hand, spammy and / or hateful, it's OK to just talk about random things with other members. Hell, just look at the page or two prior to your first post.

Humor is what separates us from the lower forms of life on this planet - like lawyers, Republicans and most congressmen. Laughter is an essential part of a healthy life, and the best laughter is when you can laugh at yourself. I have no problem laughing at myself - or anyone else, for that matter. I know when to take things seriously (rare as that may occur in my slighted, jaded, cynical view on life), but usually, I will add humor to defuse a situation, or at least bring it into perspective.

Damn Byteslinger and SlntCobra1, screwin' around as usual. :P

Not together, of course. But we do make a good tag-team - as long he he bathes on a weekly basis.

So, yes, we can go a bit off-topic and on to random tangents. I personally enjoy introducing a little chaos here and there to keep things interesting. If you can't enjoy life now, when can you? But as previously mentioned before, let's keep it (somewhat) clean, good-natured and definitely not spammy.

So, hopefully, we'll be seeing you around here a lot more. Sit tight - there's this silly thing called paperwork we need to take care of first!

I definitely don't spam or anything of the like, so we should be good. Amen brother, enjoying life should be everyones' top priority. Sometimes people takes things too serious and as a result are often dull and bland people to be around.

Aha
Thanks for considering me. Just calling it paperwork sounds tedious and boring (lol)

Take all the time you guys need, seeing as I'm currently moving in real life and I probably won't be very active for about a week. After I get settled and get my wireless all set up and all my stuff moved in, I should be able to put in a good amount of time/effort into help cleaning up our portal.

This is off subject, but I thought I'd bring it up. The portal has really changed over the years, what I mean is, the blam to protect ratio. I use to frequent this site back in late 03 and 04 and on my other account I had far more blams than saves. Since my return to this site, I've noticed a lot higher saves ratio as compared to blams.

You guys have any idea why this is so? My guess is a general shift in acceptance of lower quality flash, but I honestly have no idea.

Cheers

I think the portal okay at the moment. I did recall SirCannabisClock submitting the same flash twice. I have got 4 blams so far this week. I do laugh though at the fake Meet and Fuck series, though that has passed its funny and shows that no all spam is bad. I think though hentai is fine but the Meet and Fuck series maybe has fun out of ideas ,the parody of it was actually not that far off here.

Right, today is my 6th Account Anniversary 18 months after the conception of this wonderful account, I did join in the fun at the Barracks. This means that we have 6 months and 2 days to prepare for the 5th birthday celebrations of the barracks!

Right, I'll need a large pitcher (No Eagle, I don't mean Randy Johnson!) and various liquors... oh, and some ice. We shall have a barracks frappé and everyone will enjoy it!

I concur. My late father served proudly in the Marines for 12 years in Korea (yes, I'm a little older than most of the populace here in NewGrounds). When he passed away a few years ago, he had a full military funeral, and some of the guys he served with actually showed up as pall-bearers and stayed with us through the funeral and interment at the cemetery. He never was boastful about being a Marine, but he was proud of it, and it did help him get a good start on life. He went in a 17-year old goof-off - and came out a 29 year-old responsible young man with life skills and employable talents.

I used to ask him about what he did (he was an expert marksman and a sniper), and all he would say is "I did my job. I protected our camp and kept the bad guys away." He admitted that he had to use deadly force at times to do his job, but he never wanted to give his daughter the gory details. No body counts, no over-dramatic stories - just the fact that he stayed the course and never let down his brothers in arms. It did change him quite a bit - but overall, it was for the better. I am proud of him, and I do miss him a lot, even after all these years.

Semper Fi!

Hey guys, what's up with all the short posts lately :/

Anyway, just to get the ball rolling, what are your opinions on the Tank Awards and Pico Day? I won't say who the winners are because I don't want to spoil it for those of you who haven't watched the video yet.

Did any of you watch the webcast on stickam yesterday? I did, and it was awesome. I spent the whole day at home watching it, they showed a lot of Pico day movies and games (including some from the past years). The party was pretty cool, I wish I could go to an event like that someday, there were lots of famous Newgrounders. There were also some great submissions, like this one:

(I actually watched that on the Stickam broadcast).

Oh that's bad, missing Pico day... :(
I hope you sort out your problems with your computer ;)

By the way, Bob's nipple is awesome.

Well I enjoyed Pico day I got around 7/bp not much, but I like the Pico design they have done this year. I have seen a few Pico movies not bad. Anyone get much b/p on Pico day? A good place to check would be the Pico day 2010 page link http://www.newgrounds.com/collection/pic oday2010. Not to much on there currently I do like the huge purple picture of Dad. I have not been on stickham may check out that link.

Yes, the layout is great. The art on the sides is a submission by jouste. There were some other great art submissions, like this one. You should totally check out the Pico Day Art Contest if you're looking for some kick-ass art :)

Yes I saw a lot of movies and got at least 50 B/P points. If I had logged my stats to NGlogs the day before I could know exactly how many B/P I got, but I'm sure that it was a lot anyway. Watching submissions as they webcasted they in Stickam was great, because hearing other people's comments on the submission was great, or just hearing how they laughed made every submission much funnier. They also showed some shock submissions which was pretty funny too. I remember this submission that had all the members of the staff jerking off each other. It sounds disgusting, but it was great, and everyone laughed a lot.

I have not been on stickham may check out that link.

The link I posted links to the official thread created by liljim, which has a link to a video of the tank awards (for those who missed it).

Well this is awkward... Heh. The roster manager who is supposed to look after the roster, is late by a whole freaking day, and even then.... I'm doing this roster at a friends house, on this laptop and it's 11:53pm at night. Bleh.

I do apologise about that whole thing. I didn't mean to miss the roster, it wasn't necessarily the fact that I missed it, it's just I got so caught up in my own life and it's troubles that I stayed at a friends house because I really didn't want to go home because I needed to clear my head, everything is fine now though.... Or at least... Getting there. I hope.

Don't worry, some time real life just gets in the way and there's nothing we can do about it. Anyway, it's just a day late, so it's not a big deal ;)
I hope you solved whatever problem you had :)

However, my job has been made... A lot... LOT better and easier. Why? Because of this woman. She's the cleverest person I actually know of and thanks to her... My job as a roster manager has been made much much easier. She has added a new part to the EGB website that she made... and this new part automatically creates and does the roster for me. Totals it up and helps me create a nice little text file so I can easily sort out everything. It helps me so much. I can find out how people are actually doing, half way through the month. If you go to the little tab down box on top right hand corner and click the WIP bit, that will bring up an updated roster.

That's awesome! Byte, you are great! Thanks for this great tool :D

Well yeah... So I was able to get the EGB roster out tonight because I was able to use the part of the site that Byte made, otherwise it would not have been out. I kick myself for missing the deadline... But it was out of my control. I am sorry. yet I owe it all to byteslinger that this months roster is out. <3

Again, don't worry! You shouldn't see every thing you do as a negative thing. You're always apologizing for mistakes that you didn't make.

Thank you Byte.

Yeah, thank you! :D

Thank you to you guys for being so understanding. I apologise, I will try not make it happen again.

Hey, Lizz - it's okay - no need for apologies. I hope everything is okay (or will be soon), and things calm down a bit. We've got your back, my friend!

As for the Roster tool - as you can see from my B/P, I've had a lull in my workload, which gave me more time to do things for myself. Once I figured out how the NG Logs code worked, I had a crazy idea that it could be adapted to do all the work for roster maintenance. I started with some prototype code a few months ago, and since I had the time, I finished it. It's just one way to give back to the EGB for putting up with all my insanity - and to make our lives a little easier.

It still needs to have the actual member list maintained and confirmed, so Lizz will be handling that (all online) - but now, all of those crazy spreadsheets disappear.

I'm glad it helps Lizz in his monthly quest for Roster stats - he deserves it! And to all of you who said "Thanks", you're all very welcome!

*Salutes*

182 in a month. My personal record is 183 in a week.

Where did my will to B/P go...?
Maybe I'm just a lazy fuck (<= most likely answer, come to think of it). Maybe the long spaces between B/P ranks has put me off being so active about it. Maybe the monthly roster wasn't as much fun to be competitive about as the NGPD's weekly one. Or maybe all of them, I really don't know. :(

All of YOUR insanity? *clears his throat* Methinks the lady doth forget her teammate. :P

Also, thanks for the nifty tool Byte, that is seriously cool. How about I take over for next month? jk, But seriously, all it is now is just copypasta. Nothing more, nothing less.

Anyway, Lizz, how many times have we told you there is no need to apologize? More than what we should have been at least. We all have lives outside of NG, it's not all that surprising if real life takes over one's "E-life" so to speak.

Speaking of real life I'm looking to be working full time. Since the recent health care legislation was passed, I don't have to worry about having 12 credit hours of class to be a full time student to have health care. Thanks to the legislation, I can stay on my dad's health care until I'm 26. ^_^

Lizz, I've said this before, and I'll say this again. I will never, hay-hever hold you, or anyone else who does something for the good of the Barracks on a volunteer basis accountable for IRL issues intruding upon said actions. Apart from being plain ungrateful, it would be highly hypocritical, at least on my part anyway. Besides which, the roster manager is always to be held in high regard for the time they dedicate to the Barracks, thus in the (very unlikely) case that someone did call you out rather ungraciously for not having it up exactly when expected, rest assured either Eagle, myself, or another of the higher ups would have a word with them about it. So don't worry about it man, and thanks again.

Further thanks are in order for our resident tech queen byte as well, I can't profess to know quite how much work is involved in assembling a roster, but I can imagine it to be quite a time-consuming and tedious task. Anything that helps in that regard is fantastic, so well done byte.

No big surprises there, the big hitters keep on going.

Total gain for month: 10,515
That's 350.50 per day, or 8.76 per day per member.

Pulling my weight by fractions of decimals, rather than comfortably. How things have changed.

Anyway, go raibh míle maith agat arís Lizzardis, and I hope whatever problems you are having resolve themselves soon rather than later. By the way, if you need to talk I'm always just a PM away.

Shocking, Lizz. I explained to you about the additional stats from the error and it came back to bite me. 1,382 gain over April, 46.07 daily pace. I'll still remain on the top 5 gainers, so I'm not mad :P

I'm slowly catching bila and then Phantom, so we'll see when it gets interesting in about 10-12 weeks time

359.5 or 8.99 per day per member. Let's see if we can push for 10 points per day per member :D

Hey as far as I know, I've been getting at least 10-20 per day, but sometimes 8-10 is all I can muster. Also, since I plan on working this summer, I might not be as active, I NEEDS MAH MONEY!!!
