Y'all talking about cooking? Well, by chance or fate or my own immortal power, I happen to be a bit of a cook myself. I love cooking, probably because it's directly connected with the food at the center of my life. Here's a couple of recipes by my hand, note that the wing recipe is a work in progress. I'm also working on fried chicken, but that's still in the earliest stages of its development.

Um... Chocolate Cake? Or is that just to throw smart arses like me off the trail?

Right, everyone seems to be either cooking (I did sweet & sour pork the other night) or writing stories. I'm going to have to go back to the beginning and revisit the youth of my account, creating the series Blammer from day 1.

That's going to be fun.

I noted your blog post about cooking, and enjoyed it! You make some good points. Also, I just LOVE how you used the Around-the-world in 80 days reference!

Actually, that recipe is the exact recipe that you find in Portal for the cake.

And yes, it is a lie.

That stuff is to die for. Anyway, I was hoping to do some writing of my own, but I just don't have the motivation to do so, so I'm just enjoying another great chapter of Byte story :)

To be honest, in the multi-dimensional quantum realms, there are an inifinite number of EagleRocks. Some are cool (such as the one in this particular dimension we occupy IRL), and some are asshats. In the story, yes, there are at least 3 versions of you - in fact, 3 versions of everyone.

I tried to explain what's been going on with a Quick Synopsis of the different dimensions and how they are related. This should either clear things up completely, or make you run screaming.

And as for your storyline - starting to get intense here! I can imagine "Eye of the Tiger" playing right about now, and then after that, "Through the Fire and the Flame" during the last few battles.

It is definitely engrossing - and I'm very curious as to how it will all end up!

Speaking of 3 versions of everyone, I'm guessing Coby is my beta counterpart? So what will my evil triplet's name be? Or am I just going to have to wait and see?

I'm not sure about that 100%...the fupa.com game has a release date of September 18th, 2009, and there's no cited name on the flash...this could be legit.

Can we please use time travel to have, like, 20 of me to fight like in Austin Powers? Only from the Alpha Universe, though.

I've just realised...Its easy to get Coby out of SlntCobra and Rock out of Eagle Rock....But what are yu going to get out of Lizzardis? Eh Byte?

Simple:

Alpha: Lizzardis
Beta: Biff
Gamma: Spongebob

Actually, looking at it, you're dead in the Beta future after Slinger (evil male Byte from Gamma) shot a nuke at the Barracks. Coby is you in Gamma, since Coby was dealing with Slinger and Rock. Or maybe I'm just confused.

Is anyone else's browser freezing when they watch this, or is it just me? It froze both my FF and my Opera, so it's either in my computer, or the author's a douchebag who made a malicious Flash.

It froze mine as well, I had thought that maybe it was something to do with my playing CS while using Firefox, but I guess not. I'm not sure if he intentionally made it malicious though.

Well, in the "beta" universe, the majority of the EGB is, unfortunately, deceased. The "Byte" we all know and love has many challenges to overcome, the first of which is get her body back. But knowing what a possible future she could cause will change the way she handles things when (or if) she gets back home.

In the evil "gamma" universe, your counterpart will generally have a name that is derivative of your"alpha" name. Your personality will be different - and in some cases, even your gender.

In Lizz's case, in the "gamma" universe his name is "Zardis", and he was a hired gun for Tom Fulp. We already know that the "gamma" Slinger killed "Zardis" in revenge for "Zardis" assassinating Slinger's wife and unborn child (more will be revealed in "beta")

Try to think of it as three separate stories that have found common points - and then wind up twisting together...so, hang on - it's going to get better!

Totally awesome. I must admit, the concept of the "Beta" universe is quite interesting to me. Who's alive? What happened? How far ahead in the future is it? Can I still get an espresso in Beta land? :-)

I'd be tapping away at my story now, but I damaged my laptop this morning when I dropped it (sigh), so I had to do some repairs today. I had to disassemble the whole damn thing to repair the screen hinge, as it bent and made the laptop close crooked. Also, the stupid hard drive started the "clicks of death" so I had to run out and get a new hard drive today. So, I'll be out of commission for a bit longer as I reconfigure the laptop on the new hard drive. I'll be installing Snow Leopard, too, but the migration utility should get me up and running by tonight.

That's what I get for being an idiot. First time I ever dropped my laptop. Feel like a fool.

Besides you...well, I don't want to give away any spoilers here. Let's just say if you threw a reunion party, you'd only need 3 pounds of cold cuts and a case of beer. As for espresso - that will be one of the few comforts still available to you ;)

I'd be tapping away at my story now, but I damaged my laptop this morning when I dropped it (sigh), so I had to do some repairs today.

Oh, wow. That just plain stinks. I've had my share of laptop issues these past few weeks, but I think I'm one of the few here that actually has a spare laptop, as well as a tower unit that I use for archive and backup. It's a necessity of being a consultant. I also backup my work on various USB flash drives, too. It sounds paranoid, but my clients don't want to hear "oh, my system crashed, and I lost all your work - it'll be a few weeks before I can re-create it."

That's what I get for being an idiot. First time I ever dropped my laptop. Feel like a fool.

Don't beat yourself up - shit happens. It was just an accident. I've had my share of goof-ups as well.

Hope you are successful in your rebuild. Meanwhile, I'm off to work on Chapter 4...

At 9/20/09 09:13 AM, Lizzardis wrote: Also...I have come to a conclusion. Newgrounds is dying.

Why have I come to this conclusion? Well maybe because I'm feeling down and want something to rant about, OR it could be based on two factors. The two MAIN factors that hold NG up high.

1) The portal. We all know about this place, a place of which shit ridden rot festing flashes get submitted by idiots and are attempted to be blammed, only to receive a huge amount of abusive reviews them for that flash to be deleted.
A place in which brilliant flashes get submitted like Tarboy, Portal defenders and various others. This place is dying....Ever so slowly. I remember the times when I could get over 80+ B/P a day....I sometimes can now, but the fact of the matter is that 7/10 times the things that come through are utter shite! This place is dying, the standards are at an all time low and people are just voting 5 just for the sake of it!

The portal is just like this in certain occasions. Just give it some time! Remember that there are a lot of people working on their Power of Three projects, so they aren't doing anything great besides that. Also, there is people working on their Madness flashes, and probably some are already working in something for Halloween. Besides, Talk like a Pirate Day was yesterday and we got some nice entries.

As I said, just give it some time. After all these special dates are over, I'm pretty sure that the portal will resume it's normal pace of submissions. Yeah, some of them won't be good, but that has always been like that.

2) The BBS. WEll we know that General is just one big mahoosive spam thread, but remember when we used to be able to have good discussions there? I used to have a laugh in there....Now I can't because I'm scared of getting my sorry ass banned!

I understand how you feel about not being able to have good discussion. And that's pretty much true because even if there is a discussion going on, there will always be some less-serious posts.

But if its some good discussions what you're after, don't be afraid to enter the Politics forum. I don't usually post there, but I think it's a great place which has some pretty interesting threads.

Plus other parts are dying as well! The Wi/Ht? forum no longer has loads and loads of questions asking about Newgrounds. The C&C forums are going hours without a single reply, and the rest, they just aren't that active anyway.

About the Wi/Ht? forum, well, if there aren't many people creating threads that's actually a good thing. It means that people are either reading the FAQ or finding the answers to their own questions, and therefore they don't need to create a new thread every time they don't know something.

About C&C... Well I'm not a regular here, but that's not a bad thing at all. It's better to have a good posts every 2 or 3 hours than having a lot of stupid posts per minute (see General forum).

The fact of the matter is, this place isn't as busy as it once was, the standards have dropped and the users are just becoming more stupid by the second....

Sometimes I wonder if users are really becoming more stupid, or if it's just us becoming more mature. I remember seeing a thread in General about this, but anyway, that doesn't mean NG is dying. Just because the site isn't busy it doesn't mean it's dying. And those stupid users are at least active. And in case they just become too stupid, well, we still have moderators doing a nice job in every part of the site.

/Rant

Wow....That was a lot to say. I guess...It just had to be said.

You say NG is dying... However look here: There are at least fifty people who have signed up to Newgrounds today. It looks like a lot of people is joining, some of them may not be active, but some of them will probably do something good for Newgrounds in the future, either by creating flashes, audio, art or by posting in the forums.

I don't really think that Newgrounds is dying. With some many things going on, and the oncoming Literature Portal, I'd say this place is pretty alive (and the chat! you can't forget about the chat! That will be ready soon... Right?)

If you're feeling down, maybe all you need is a big, nice hug :D
Cheer up!

It's not paranoid. I back up all my work just like you. While I usually tend to surround myself with old PCs and laptops, I did kinda pare down when I moved out into my tiny-ass apartment. Now that I'm in the house, though, I'm probably going to slowly build up again... ;-)

But right now, in the house, I have two laptops (one MacBook that's mine and one HP Pavillion that's my wife's), my gaming rig, and my linux server. Sadly, I still have a linux server in my parents' basement, but they don't seem to care. I use it for testing purposes and a backup webserver... :-)

Hope you are successful in your rebuild. Meanwhile, I'm off to work on Chapter 4...

So far, disassembly of the whole machine was fine, as I was able to get to the bent part of it and fix it. Reassembly went just as easy, so now I'm onto the OS install. Problem I'm having is trying to read off the damaged disk, as the USB enclosure I'm using isn't the greatest one God ever invented. I'll need to figure something out.

This place is dying, the standards are at an all time low and people are just voting 5 just for the sake of it!

You're half-right there. Hell, I remember times that 160+ B/P a day was easy, if you had a relatively menial life at the time. And while there was more flash on the Portal in that time, let's also consider that a good percentage of those B/P that I got were from the 2 dozen or so Barney Bunch flashes that came on at night. Back then, they made a select few halfway-decent flash that would get submitted then switch it out for their secret episodes (HI I AM DREW PICKES AND I'M REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY GAY).

2) The BBS. WEll we know that General is just one big mahoosive spam thread, but remember when we used to be able to have good discussions there? I used to have a laugh in there....Now I can't because I'm scared of getting my sorry ass banned!

Maybe I have a differing opinion on it, but I always remember General being a steaming pile of crap. That's why I never bothered to post in the BBS until 2005, as I was originally under the impression General was indicitive of the entire BBS...

Plus other parts are dying as well! The Wi/Ht? forum no longer has loads and loads of questions asking about Newgrounds. The C&C forums are going hours without a single reply, and the rest, they just aren't that active anyway.

That could be because of what you said, but it can also be attributed to people either getting a clue or the rules/explanations for these things being better posted since the redesign.

The fact of the matter is, this place isn't as busy as it once was, the standards have dropped and the users are just becoming more stupid by the second....

Well, that's not just Newgrounds. The general populace (at least in this country) is getting dumber by the day.

/Rant

Wow....That was a lot to say. I guess...It just had to be said.

You do have a valid point, but I do have a counter response that isn't quite so bleak: Newgrounds has been "dying" for years. If you use factors like yours to determine the longevity of the ability of NG to thrive, then it should have been dead in 2004. Fact is, no website will stay the same forever; they adapt. I've seen NG adapt multiple times. Hell, even the Barracks has adapted, which is why it stayed around. When I first created it, it was nothing more than a chat room where people acted according to their rank. After a while, the theme changed to something a bit more meaningful, and no who still talks like that around here? I might admit I miss it from time to time, but it's time has passed. However, the Barracks still stands. So does Newgrounds.

Fact of the matter is, anything over time changes, and people always have a need for nostalgia. It's been said over hundreds of years that things were better in the past, and now they are simply sub-standard. Hell, in the 50's people in the US were absolutely convinced Rock and Roll would destroy society. After that, the kids growing up were so "amazingly horrible" that they were deemed "Generation X." And as if that wasn't enough to show how America and the rest of the world feels about how things are nowadays, they went so far as to name the generation that fought in World War II "The Greatest Generation." Wow. Talk about a hard act to follow.

So yeah, Newgrounds is dying, but only because it's living. All living creatures are in a perpetual state of dying. Some, however, adapt and change their way of living to extend their lifespan, as Newgrounds has done. So, I wouldn't think of it so pessimistically :-)

I've been noticing the whole "NG dying" thing for a while now. Mostly in the form of fewer Flash submitted to the Portal (I even find myself missing the spam sometimes, from the KK stuff to all the Afro_Stud ripoffs), but also in the form of an apparent decline in user quality, as I have much better memories of the 07 crowd than I have for 09ers. Maybe that last one's just nostalgia, but you can't deny that there's more Flash listed here than here. NG needs some new content, some activity in the Portal, AND FAST.

The BBS, on the other hand... Well, while I'd like to see the EGB a little more active sometimes instead of just something like one post every 3 hours, some of you might remember what happened when people in the NGPD were posting needlessly for activity. Not exactly what we want here. And General is still the same General that it's been since I was here, the names have changed but the content is still the same. There's only two things on the BBS that I really miss: a lot of my old friends who are now gone, and Rage's.

Eh, when it comes to NG "dying" it only seems like that because as Ismael said, people are probably trying to finish up their Madness day flashes and in the meantime, we get all the crap/stolen/unsuitable/hateful/malicious flashes to contend with on a daily basis. I'm sure activity will pick up on Madness day and a little bit after. Then it might slow down again as people will begin work on their Halloween submissions. Then it might pick up for about 3-4 weeks, then it will go slow again as people will begin work on their Christmas submissions. You know that August-December it always gets kinda quiet as we have 4 major NG holidays that people are busy preparing for in advance.

I can't really say much for Rage's thread as I wasn't a part of it before it got locked but from what I heard people began abusing it and it just went to shitsville. As far as General is concerned, I've been able to have some good conversations there and not get banned. If anything, I've been banned more in the C&C than anyplace else. I've lurked the Politics forum, but never really posted there as because whenever I need to rant, I can't think up anything to rant about.

I get moments when I feel down about Newgrounds like my beloved Rage's thread ,I still feel like a huge part of the BBS has gone even if it did get into a mess in the end. I have not noticed the portal being slower but then I don't sit down for that long, I wish I did. I agree about WH/HT being almost dead I feel in my opinion that maybe because of Rage's thread being locked that was why it is slower. I miss seeing old people on that thread who used to post. I miss Afro submitting his series I wish he would submit more, and of course the Kitty Krew too. I'm being nostalgic here but things changed but I still have hopes that maybe a new kind of Rage's thread will come back but that is not likely I know.

Archer I'm a good shot!

Can I jump in on this oldfag reflecting moment? I miss the obsessive compulsive posters thread. I don't think NG has ever had a club/crew where people got as close together as we did in the OCP. Seems like NG is really lacking in that department these days.

I can help with that. Make AIM Buddies with SlntCobra...you'll never miss the Review Thread again. :-) The man is a walking deity whistle.

You used "oldfag," lol. But in all seriousness, the EGB was really close-knit when it was first started. Especially once you hit page 100-200, it was like one mass of voting power working in one elite formation...

Plus, the conversations were HILARIOUS at times. I certainly plan on getting the thread back into that kick now that I'll be around for a while.

By the way, for those interested, I'm finished repairing and upgrading my Mac! It's quite a bit faster, too, since I put in a faster hard drive and upgraded to Snow Leopard. Honestly, dropping the damn thing was the best thing I could've done to it. Gave me the swift kick in the pants I needed to give it a boost. I'll be ready to start the new chapter tonight! I can't make guarantees, but I hope to get at least another chapter done.

Sorry for being inactive for a few days, after my massive 3rd birthday post. I decided to take a break.

At 9/20/09 09:13 AM, Lizzardis wrote: Also...I have come to a conclusion. Newgrounds is dying.

Well, you could say that....or it's just slowing down for a small period of time.

1) The portal. We all know about this place, a place of which shit ridden rot festing flashes get submitted by idiots and are attempted to be blammed, only to receive a huge amount of abusive reviews them for that flash to be deleted.

Yes, there is alot of shit submitted to the portal and now it does not get blammed; it passes with such a low score it is shocking. Just look at TOTW it has a score or of 0.54 since i last checked. Now thats just pathetic to say the least.

This part seems to be a small rant, but i do argree with you. I have not been to active on the portal in a good few months, the most i was on was on clock day and i only got about 300 b/p. Alot of shit i hit 0,1 on passes and i just think "why" It got such a low score and it did not deserve to pass and the author will just submit more shit that will pass and for no good reason.

It is becoming the users who are voting this high on things that should not have even passed. They vote 4-5 on it and then they know it will pass and they will get the point like the mindless fools they are. They just want a point on there acount, nothing more. I bet most don't even watch the flash they are voting on.

2) The BBS. WEll we know that General is just one big mahoosive spam thread, but remember when we used to be able to have good discussions there? I used to have a laugh in there....Now I can't because I'm scared of getting my sorry ass banned!

You know what, i even think you are right about this. I look in the general i see a topic that i think i want to post in. Then i make my post and then i think "will i get banned for posing ina spam thread?" Well after i think i just don't post it.

I don't know where you are, but the general was a big pile of shit since i started posting. Never do i remember a time where i can say that the general was a place for good conversation. There are a select number of users who make really good posts, but the rest of them are a merry band of morrans who post garbage.

Plus other parts are dying as well! The Wi/Ht? forum no longer has loads and loads of questions asking about Newgrounds. The C&C forums are going hours without a single reply, and the rest, they just aren't that active anyway.

The Wi/Ht has been quite and does need some more questions to be answered. I could easly go and post in 5-6 threads a night and help each one. Now there might be only one that i see needs help. I don't know what it is, but it's slowing down. C&C forums i see no change in, they are as active as ever in my eyes.

The fact of the matter is, this place isn't as busy as it once was, the standards have dropped and the users are just becoming more stupid by the second....

Oh there are idiots by the loads here and they are just not helping the cause. There was not a single 09' user to become really active in the Wi/Ht that i can recall. Last year there was about 5 or more. Wait there was a few. But not as meny as the years before. Sorry if you think i disrespected you, just don't know your sign up date.

Oldfag BBS wise. I was referring to this "death of newgrounds" theory. I'm STILL the newfag on the EGB forums. Newest member: michelinman. Someone needs to damn join. Haha.

Plus, the conversations were HILARIOUS at times. I certainly plan on getting the thread back into that kick now that I'll be around for a while.

That would be pretty sweet, but it seems to be a trend happening these last few years. I used to laugh my ASS off on the BBS a few years back. Now i chuckle every now and again, but that's about it. A few years ago, the dickneck thread would've sank pretty quickly, because at the end of the day, it's just rippin on one of the hundreds of noobs that did something stupid, whereas nowadays, those type of threads are deleted on sight. There was just so much madness and hilarity in General back then. Now it's a lot like Liz said. People get banned and shit gets locked before anything ever gets really funny. I feel bad for him though because he never got to see the good ol' days.

I think that trend is kinda leaking over into the other forums as the standard is kind of being set higher and higher for something to be qualified as a good post. Sure good posts are more beneficial, but the funniest things that happen on this site will ALWAYS be from a large group of people laughing at one asshole. When I look back on my post history, there's so many RIDICULOUS threads that would be instantly deleted today, but they've got pages of posts and are still unlocked. Haha.
