Well, the roster I got for this story was actually compiled for a list of Barracks members that responded to me in the thread at the time. There were only a few I added, such as Major-punk, LittleWashu, and other former officers, but other than that, it was people that had reponded to me at the time. Unfortunately, I already wrote all the characters in (and out) of the story, so there's really not much I can do in terms of screwing around, adding or removing people.
However, like I said before, I am having a blast with these stories, and I certainly intend to continue writing stories after this one, and yes they'll include current members. :-)

Yeah, I can appreciate that. You're talking about the fifth match, the big 8-on-8 assault thing. I think that's where it was your time to shine, too...
I just don't have to the time between finishing up my story and finishing my Eagle Scout stuff.
Oh yeah, I remember you mentioning you were in Scouts as well. For some reason, Scouting and the EGB just seem to mix...I might have to do with all the saluting that happens...

:-) It's a fun little story. I'm glad so many are interested in it. To be honest, I have put quite a bit of time into it, and while it's quite a bit of fun to just write for myself, it's even better knowing others are drawing pleasure from it.

Sounds like my kind of book - wanna do a collab? We could write our version / point-of-view of the Barracks wars, from a female soldier perspective.
<rant>
And not to take a dig at any of these fine, aspiring Hemingway acolytes, but how come it's all about the boys? Or aren't women allowed to play with the big, bad guns and handy rocket launchers? Maybe it just bruises their ego a little that it's possible someone without a penis could actually be their equal - or superior - in the ancient art of war?
</rant>
Maybe I should, on second thought.
Seriously - I think you should, too!
At 9/13/09 06:22 AM, Lizzardis wrote: I think it would make a good story....But how come you are leaving us guys out?
I'm not - we would certainly include all members of the EGB (most of which have that small, parasitic creature dangling in their pants) , but it would be from a female perspective.
Maybe it just bruises your ego a little that it's possible someone with a penis could actually be their equal - or superior - in the ancient art of war?
Naw, we're not worried about that. Not only can a woman soldier be as athletic and talented as a male soldier, she can look great doing it! Especially if she's wearing form-fitting body armor. We're not worried at all about superiority. We're already there! hehehehe
Ooooooh riiiight!
You know, you're so cute when you play tough!
All kidding aside - I think it would be fun to do from a different perspective. AND.... once we get rolling, we might actually figure out a plot for the EGB collab flash we've been kicking around...
Just my opinion, though....
roflmfao, y'all are insane, y'all know that? Nothin' quite like witty banter in the morning. Update on my fanfic, I'm just about through with chapter 9. I hope to have it out SOMETIME TODAY, but I'm not making any promises.

I have many theories that are pretty much the same, but the main word is the difference.
1) We're all insane, it's just to what extent are we insane.
2) We're all lost, it's just to what extent are we lost.
3) We're all confused, it's just to what extent are we confused.
etc. The list goes on and on and on and on and on.
Well, I had an hour or so, so I threw this together:
So, Lizz, Krev, SlntCobra and anyone else with access to the BBS, please feel free to read and critique!
Hey Byte, if you want, I can go ahead and add you in my subscriber's list for my fanfic and I can send you all 9 chapters that I have thus far.
Also, I really did enjoy the prologue. The ending was utterly unexpected. Then again, as humans we're supposed to expect the unexpected.

This whole place is insane...I like it.
And for the record, I won't even ask what the hell these "I <something> penis" sigs are all about.
Anyway, Chapter 21 is finally out...sorry it took so long, but as you'll see, things are changing rapidly. I had to write most of Chapter 22 before I could polish off 21. Of course, that means Chapter 22 isn't far from done... :-)
Anyway, link: Barracks Under Fire - Chapter 21
Looks like I might be able to squeeze out my dirty story of a dirty man by tomorrow night. Hell, if I finish early enough, it might even get some polish, something I rarely have time to do.

Well I did shine... because I was covered in bullets. May not have been that chapter, but I do remember dieing. It was pretty early on in a match.
It's cool though; someone has to be the first to die, and I was pretty much a nobody around here back then.

The sequel is more of the same. Except for the woods.

First off, men are naturally stronger than women. It's genetics. Yes, there are cases where women can kick a guys ass (and some women where a guy would let them ;) ), but it's rare, especially when you're training in the army.
Second, No matter what you say, chivalry is not dead. At least on the battlefield. It's a natural instinct for a man to protect a woman, since they give birth. So, naturally, a man would risk his life to try to save a woman's, and sometimes they both die. That's a risk the military isn't willing to take.
Third, while in a book, movie, or comic, what do you have the woman wear? Do you give her a bikini or form fitting outfit, or regular military slacks? With option 1, you find 2 ways of looking at it; either she's embracing her femininity, or she's dressed like a whore. Option 2 isn't much better; then she can't be distinguished from the guys
Finally, as stated earlier, women make babies. You can't have a whole bunch of women dieing, otherwise the population can't come back as quick. Think about it; if there's only 1 girl left alive, the population increases 9 months at a time. But if there's only 1 guy left alive, then the population can expand exponentially fast.
In summary, yes, women can fight, and some may make great warriors. But they are too important towards the population to let them die for whatever is being fought over.</rant>
Obviously not ManaTheatre - check before you vote ;)
While I will admit that genetically speaking, on average the male human has more muscle mass, a larger frame and a stronger "hunter" sense than a female human, there is something a woman can do that a man could never do: give birth.
Yeah, the man does about 5 minutes of work - the woman does the next 18 years!
So, the next time one of you sperm donors wants to think themselves superior, I invite you to take your lower lip, pinch it between your thumb and forefinger - and then try to pull it over your nose. That's only a small fraction of the pain woman endure to bring a child to the world. And we do it every day, most of us without pain drugs.
We are a lot stronger than you think. And if you ever want to see unbridled fury, try standing between a mother and her child.
But that's just a woman's opinion...

Well, actually a responsible man would also take care of his child until he/she grows up. But of course, women also go through those 9 extra months of work.
That thread is FULL OF WIN!
"Detachable peenis" lmfao, I'm gonna make that into a sig later on. AND THE BANDWAGON SHALL CONTINUE YET AGAIN!!! MUAHAHAHAHA!

Man, are you confusing. I'll have to read that again to figure out what the hell just happened.
Anyway, I finally got chapter 22 done. Took me damn near forever, too. I was actually writing most of of the last two days getting this stuff ironed out. Seems the hardest of the writing is behind me though, as the rest of the plot becomes relatively clear soon enough...
Barracks Under Fire - Chapter 22
Enjoy!
The next chapter will become more of a subplot involving Dr. Benson.

Indeed it will, I'm planning to submit some of my works from Fiction Press, not all of them however.
Also the class for Friday is canceled for this week so I won't be here, try not to miss it.

Damn if you ain't kickass at being able to get other people's personalities down pat.
"Naw, I just found the control panel and pushed the friggin green button!" Man that is so something I would've done and said as well as the "Open sesame" joke. You amaze me, you know that?
Also, from what I'm understanding, Byte swapped bodies with the guy in the portal and ended up on the other side, while simultaneously the guy swapped bodies with her and wound up this side fo the portal, right?
Another thing, how have you been able to discern our personality types just from seeing how we act on NG? You got a call just as you were about to answer.
Also, good call picking Van Halen solos for the wake-up call on the PDA, I was trying as hard as I could to find a suitable "Eruption" video on youtube, but none of them are like the one we all know and love. The live 1978 version sounds absolutely NOTHING like the studio version. And we all know that the studio version is the best version of "Eruption" PERIOD!

It's very perverted. I mean, you might get turned off by it and think of me as a freak. It was originally written for the audience here, and if you browse around, you'll see the deprived stuff that is written up there. But, it's your choice my friend.

Silly me, I forgot the links!
The Sword
The Sword of Noatlag
Be careful though; that was before I learned to be concise, so they're a bit lengthy (The Sword 2 is a news post and a comment long, and The Sword is close). But if you can read 62,000 words, you can read these.
Also, I'm almost done my new story. I'd say I'm 700 words away, but that could be mean another 2-3 days with me. We'll see how it goes.
At 9/14/09 09:29 AM, byteslinger wrote: there is something a woman can do that a man could never do: give birth.
Well, besides that one dude...
Anyway, I did say that women didn't fight because they were too important in society because they give birth. And I thought it was assumed that women are as tough mentally, if not tougher, then men because of that.
Wow, I never knew that there were so many talented writers around in this thread, great reading should I ever get a break in college. I did manage to read parts from everyone's work, really wish I had a moment or two to sit and read, or even write my own.
And, it's very nice to see you back Eagle, heard of you, but haven't been around while you've been in, hope things work out so you can be active for a time.
