Well, it won not only both, but 11 of 11 nom's. Not bad. #;-}>
Don't remind me. I still think The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King is much too overrated. I mean, there were a lot of categories it really didn't deserve to win for. Best Song and Best Adapted Screenplay come to mind. Seriously now, "Belleville Rendez-vous" from The Triplets of Belleville should have taken it, and as for the writing, how could a movie win for Best Adapted Screenplay when they missed out on one of the most important events of the story right at the end?
Ehhh... I'd say Best Editing was the least deserved of the 11, actually, but Best Song might be runner up to that. Best Adapted Screenplay? Oh come on, it was a reward for the trilogy as a whole not straying too far from the books. And besides, it was also kinda the only oscar for the ORIGINAL books, too, since the writing awards award... writing. #;-}> While the Scouring of the Shire would have been nice to see (and it's apparently not going to be in the DVD either), I'd say that I personally woulda rather seen Tom Bombadill in the first one, so... eh.
The important part is that the movie itself, and the trilogy itself, got recognised for being something other than the latest cult sf/fantasy movie by the Hollywood establishment. It has earned respect mostly due to the billion+ dollars it has brought in, but also in part for how damned good and enjoyable it was. The academy gave it some props... no problem there.
I seriously think that a lot of those awards were given to them just because it was the Lord Of The Rings trilogy's last year in the Academy Awards. However, that's not to say that all of the awards they got were undeserved. Best Art Direction and Best Visual Effects were both dead on. I'm just pissed that they got everything else. Oh well, at least Sofia Coppola got Best Original Screenplay. I haven't lost all faith yet.
You really woulda rather seen them win just art direction and visual effects? No offense, man, but that's ridiculous. Look, I know you didn't grow up reading the LOTR books (hell, I didn't read 'em myself until I was 20), but a lot of people older than you or I did, and they happened to love not only those books but also Peter Jackson's remarkable effort, for the most part successful, in getting them to screen.
I love Lost in Translation too, but the simple fact is that it took nowhere near as much work as LOTR did to make, and it wasn't anticipated for half a century like the LOTR movies were. 11/11 is great, but if anything, I'd say the entire LOTR trilogy was underrewarded at the Oscars. The first year it got tons of noms, but only a few wins. The second year, I believe it went 2 for 6. Horrible and definitely not representative of the actual film. And the third... no best supporting actor noms for Ian McKellen OR Sean Astin?
Say what you will, but I firmly believe this was a great day for film. I can't wait for the extended editions, and hope they're not going to wait till November to release them (since there won't be any new film in December, there's no need to, anyway).

I think you mentioned that elsewhere... Blamclub topic or channel, perhaps? Anyway, sorry to hear that, man. Now you're 110 behind me instead of 100, and that's not as easy to remember. #;-}>

The last 50 deposit list is often innacurate. Many a time I have checked there, trying to see my name yet it wouldn't show.
Yeah, and usually in the 30 minutes past midnight NG time, which is why I usually wait till those 30 minutes are up (in 2 minutes tonight) to deposit. I like to check out the deposits list with my stuff on there for all three accounts I deposit for.

The top 100 b/p users, one list I can stay on since gfoxcook decided to change the VP list requirements. I've noticed you're catching up. I'm 108 for b/p, so we're not far away.
The VP list will alternate between short format and occasional long format, just as it used to under NGling. Fear not, you'll be listed again in a month or two.

What teh hell? First off, posting "im at my mark, now ban me" is confusing, looks like someone else made the post with your account, and is useless. Why didn't you e-mail a mod about it instead? Now it's 2 days later and I see you've been posting over 30 posts today.
Does that mean you no longer want to be banned? I'll assume so.

Nice one Afterburner. I went to look at your icon in respect and longing, but all that came was the thought "It's just another dumb icon. Those handles are stupidly fat anyway." Whether that's jealousy or I'm just changing, I am not sure.
Oh, and by no means consider this an attack on you and/or your level up. Level 16 is a great level to get too, not just for the icon but for the higher number. I'm just speaking my mind. I'm beginning to think I shouldn't.
What's going on, James? In a bad mood today?
Anywho, of course those handles are fat. Nice and thick and black and shiny. Gorgeous level icon. :::drools:::
