oh man! paper mario the thousand year door! i'm just gonna be gushing here, but i absolutely love TTYD! that and the first Paper Mario on the N64! Super Paper Mario was alright, currently playing through Sticker Star on my 3DS and i'm enjoying the new take so far, but the first and second i simply cannot get enough of!
the storyline, the characters, the music, everything in between: i fell in love with it all!
Yeah, I've never played a Neo Geo or Turbo-Grafx-16 myself, though I'd like to one day. And what games have you played on the Genesis other than Sonic 2? I could give you some great recommendations if you'd like, as I'm pretty familiar with a lot of the Genesis' library.
i did also play Battletoads and Streets of Rage far as i can recall, and those were fun. prolly some other games as well but i'm blanking out there. thanks for the offer, but i'll have no recommendations. throw some out if you will, though i will more than likely not act on it. i'm content with what i have as far as my sega genesis library goes lol
I've actually never played Killer Instinct or looked into that much. That's probably something I should fix, as all I know about the franchise is the whole "ultra/combo breaker" phrase.
C-C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER! lol
if you can find the first KI for the SNES, it's worth a look. or even the second, Killer Instinct Gold, on the Nintendo 64 which i also liked. there is the reboot out there, though it bums me that it is solely on the Xbox One. had it been released on the PS4 as well, i would have been better with that. i digress; if you have an Xbox One or plan on getting it, you could check it out there.

good selections, excellent selections even!

yes
I can't argue with it being one of the most popular consoles of all time. All you need to do is look at the list of games they had and then realise how fucking impressive it was.
and yes
SNES had it going on, and even today it still does.
I always like a bit of chiptune/8-bit music but could do with more of it on my laptop. Best I can do for now is grab NES soundtracks. Over the last month or two I have been on a downloading spree for video game soundtracks but now I feel I'm just at the bottom of the barrel for downloading soundtracks of games that I'm familiar with.
i do the same as well; i can never go wrong with a Megaman soundtrack from the NES.
I wasn't sure what you two enjoy from music generally but it's good to introduce people to stuff I'm familiar with and even vice-versa. I'm understanding that metal isn't for everyone but if one who isn't so big on it wants to try out something once in a while, I can always lend them in on a few records here and there. At 4/30/14 06:30 AM, Murray wrote:

They still do tank awards but bringing them out hasn't been all that reliable for the last few years. I'm not even sure if we were meant to have tank awards at Pico Day last weekend. 2012's tank awards were postponed so long that it went over into mid 2013. The last tank awards that were hosted on Pico Day or early on in the year was in 2011 when I won it.
maybe they have their hands busy with other stuff. would be neat to see tank awards resurface.
I've still got that tank trophy and it's not going anywhere.
sweet!
Incase you wonder what was the cause for me to win user of the year, it was due to my extreme contributions to icon and genre modding at the time.
16,000 icons is quite the number! props to ya
I do have a Street Fighter II game but only on the Mega Drive and I gotta say, Mega Drive controls for fighting games isn't all that great. Well, unless you had the six button controller as opposed to the normal one but I was never sure how that worked out.
i could never get used to it lol
My sister borrowed REmake off a friend of hers at the time and we both played it. I can't remember how far she got but I enjoyed it enough to pick up the game for myself. This is where my interest in Resident Evil began. It wasn't too long after that I got RE4 and that's become one of my favourite games of all time. Then it was a matter of playing 0, 2 and 3 all on the Gamecube (I know, ports for 2 and 3). I missed out on Code Veronica sadly and while I have it on the PS3, I haven't even gotten in that far.
i was let down that they did not remake the second and third as they had the first. it would have been amazing!
Admittedly, I felt I was put off from Super Smash Bros. but I think I can have enough fun with the 3DS variant. I still need a Wii U but I'm all for having more games on the 3DS. Plus, I know somewhere to go for StreetPass events.
i'm lacking in a WiiU as well, though i'm aiming to pick it up soon. alongside the new Smash Bros. there is Mario Kart 8 that i am looking forward to!
where do you go for streetpass events? i streetpass some people occasionally, but are there certain spots to go to for that?

At 5/4/14 08:20 PM, SmashLuigiFan1 wrote: Eh, I liked Super Paper Mario more than Paper Mario. Not saying Paper Mario isn't great, I just prefer SPM over it.
Super Paper Mario was decent, though i more preferred the turn-based rpg that Paper Mario was before. i enjoyed the game nonetheless, and the action rpg direction went for a fluid game. loved the antagonists! i more liked the villain Dementio above all others. i can't forget the fearsome Mr. L haha. i also had a soft spot for Nastasia.
of all things though, i loved Count Bleck's character development. from who seemed like a cold, heartless monster who wanted only the destruction of all things to the story gradually revealing he was a tortured man; not only a tragic villain but he was a tragic hero who acted out of the purest emotion; the emotion that is love.
Anyway, I'm currently playing through Thousand Year Door. I'm about to start chapter 3
ahhh, the Glitz Pit. now that was a fun arena to battle it out in. good chapter. and if you haven't met him yet, prepare to face the reigning champion, the one! the only! RAWK HAWK!
"One of us is walking out of here with the belt, and the other one's getting RAWKED!! HAR HAR HAR!"
teehee
and I already have 46 of the 100 star pieces (all currently available) and about 30 of the 80 badges I think. Great game so far, but the music is pretty unmemorable. They're still good songs, though.
they're memorable to me!
*cries*
haha i jest. i liked the soundtrack, though the best OST of the paper mario series would have to be the first. actually no, the second. no, the first! the second! i love both equally that i cannot simply choose between the two! ah!
Also, I hear Sticker Star is awful because it got rid of all the amusing dialogue and was another "bowser kidnaps princess" cookie cutter plot. And there's apparently no reason to fight enemies at all.
i would have to agree with you. i love the game, i do, but what you said is indeed true. the change in the combat system relying on stickers is a real kicker, and aye you do not have to face enemies except for earning some pocket change in coins or if they are absolutely in your way.
leveling up is nonexistent, as far as battle stats go. you can find +HP ups and get yourself stronger stickers, but otherwise not leveling up at all takes away from the RPGness.
Considering how the N64 has about 5 or so fighting games for it (two of which are the Fighter's Destiny games, which are very innovative), I should look into Killer Instinct Gold. It's not too expensive, is it?
shouldn't be, no. online or in some store selling older games, you can find it around the $20-$30 range. you could order it off amazon; i have found it reliable in my experience if you choose to use that.

Anvil - Metal on Metal. Anyone who wants to try out something from this album, title track, Mothra and March of the Crabs are recommended songs.

He is and isn't. His hits are more than popular whereas the rest of his stuff is indeed underappreciated at times. I find that his whole range of music isn't quite as accessible as what others have had but it's good that his artistic works have still given him success.
Bought Floyd's "The Wall", Purple's "Fireball" and "Burn", Hendrix's "Are You Experienced" and "The Cry of Love". Ok, you can argue that all those have helped to develope metal in some way or another. But here's the non-metal purchase for today: Kraftwerk's "Autobahn". :D
Can't argue with the selection of stuff that you got. I could do with more Kraftwerk myself and I'm sure I did listen to Autobahn on Spotify at some point. I would like to pick up some CDs this month but I think I really should see about getting a new external hard drive. The one I have now is becoming a bit of a problem due to hard drive space just not being big enough for me anymore so I want to get something bigger that also doesn't have to use a power cable just to run it.

It always is. I find that I'm probably doing it too often now since it's a weekly thing and there's karaoke events at other places hosted by the same guys so sometimes I'll do karaoke twice in a row. I think this Thursday I may end up giving it a miss due to aunt's birthday. I could possibly work around it but missing it out once in a while won't hurt me. At least with that it'll feel fresher the following week.

Mega Man? Fuck yeah! Sadly, I've only got Mega Man 2 soundtrack on my laptop but it's better than nothing. I'm sure you can pick just about any Mega Man music and still be good with it.
I wasn't sure what you two enjoy from music generally but it's good to introduce people to stuff I'm familiar with and even vice-versa. I see what you did there with the last word. :P With me and music right now, I'm still trying to get through all of my dad's music and this is bound to take a long time. He's got hundreds of compilation albums and I'm gonna need to remove duplicates along the way.

I never try to guess what's going on their end so whenever they can get the latest tank awards out I'll just have to leave it to them. I just hope it won't be carried over into the following year like how it was for 2012 awards.
Incase you wonder what was the cause for me to win user of the year, it was due to my extreme contributions to icon and genre modding at the time.16,000 icons is quite the number! props to ya
It sure is. At the time that was roughly 10% of the whole portal covered by myself alone. I wish I had did more but it was one of those if you stop, it will take a while to get started again. I haven't done any icons in two years and I'm sure there's still loads of submissions left that are needing to be upgraded to the thumbnail format.

I would have loved remakes of 2 and 3 as well. When picking them up on the Gamecube, I actually thought they were remakes but it turns out they were not. I'm still happy with getting them, though.

Thankfully the Wii U is starting to pick up with its games now. However, I really want them to make a new Metroid game. That out of everything will make me most positive with getting a Wii U.
where do you go for streetpass events? i streetpass some people occasionally, but are there certain spots to go to for that?
There's a place in Liverpool that do them. Even without that venue I tend to pick up enough to hit the max capacity, even when I'm in Birkenhead!

I just listen to songs I enjoy regardless of genre, but it just so happens that about 95% of the songs I like are from/in video games.
It's good that you have that sort of preference. I try and keep myself open to all things but I really can't dig something like dubstep. We're all good on video games so no worries there. :3
I ended up making over 16,000 icons for Newgrounds to convert everything that had 46x46 icons at the time to 140x90 for the 2012 redesign.Jeez, that sounds monotonous. How long did that even take?
That was ongoing work for 18 months with some gaps in between. I started my icon modding duties from when it had began to the launch of the 2012 redesign which was around then I had stopped. I did take a few months break in late 2010/early 2011 due to being in full time work but when it came to less hours and sadly unemployment not too long after, I gave myself time to make more icons again.
I do have a Street Fighter II game but only on the Mega Drive and I gotta say, Mega Drive controls for fighting games isn't all that great. Well, unless you had the six button controller as opposed to the normal one but I was never sure how that worked out.The 6-button controller is really great for fighting games, as the two rows of three buttons are just perfect as well as the smooth d-pad. Seriously, the Genesis and Saturn have the absolute BEST d-pads of any video game console. It's kind of why the games on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection feel unplayable on the PS3, as that d-pad kind of sucks.
I've been trying to play Ecco on the 3DS and the controls for it feel weird when being used to the Mega Drive controls.
Isn't Donkey Konga that game that came with the Bongos peripheral? I've always wondered if that game controlled well.
Yeah, that was the one. From what I recalled the peripheral did work but I wasn't so big into the game. I probably still have that and the game somewhere in my house.
Right on! My sister borrowed REmake off a friend of hers at the time and we both played it. I can't remember how far she got but I enjoyed it enough to pick up the game for myself. I missed out on Code Veronica sadly and while I have it on the PS3, I haven't even gotten in that far.I seriously need to play through the Resident Evil series. The only game I beat was Resident Evil 5 (got the platinum trophy, too), and I only got through a large part of Resident Evil 1: Directors Cut on Chris' story. I have Resident Evil 4 on my Wii, but I have no way of playing it as my Wii will just get clogged with the disc (again) because my Wii is a broken down mess.
RE5 is easily one of the weakest from the series. It's not bad but it had seen better days. Shame you're not able to play RE4 due to the faults with the Wii. When you find a way to play it, make it a high priority for your time you spend on entertainment purposes since it's one hell of a game.

Yes, he has some very successful stuff, but at the same time he changed his appearance, image and musical style like not many other artists. And I think that this aspect of his artistic work is underappreciated.

I know the pain. I have TWO external hard drives and it's just a pain in the ass, when the USB cable tilts ever so slightly in the port, the hard drive disconnects. Also, one of my USB ports doesn't work properly anymore...
But I don't want to put in another internal hard drive, since I already have like three of them. >_>
I should just replace two of the smaller ones with a bigger one, I guess.
