Today is a special day for me. It's my first Newgrounds birthday and it has been a pretty good year for me. I started as user who did't use the forums very much and became a very active poster. I gathered a bunch of stats, like my high rank, my Deity Whistle and Level 19 with a 100 % deposit rate. And the users decided that I was the Rookie of the mid-year 2011.

But then I worked on my posts after having 10,000 of them and were allowed to join the Elite Guard Barracks. Additionally, I started to interview forum users, something that has become a project that means a lot to me and that works pretty well( if someone wants to get interviewed, then feel free to say so).

In the most recent past, I applied as icon moderator and made over 16,000 icons since then, and it makes me glad that I found a way to contribute to Newgrounds. I am looking forward to my future on Newgrounds and want to thank everyone who became a Newgrounds friend to me.

Works well - I'm still not sure I'll have a job come the start of 2012, but what can you do?
I'm due to end my current job in January.

My hope is that if I lose this job, I can get on the agency and keep my hand in, so that should a job arise, I can say that I've not been bumming around playing LOTRO all of the time :P

Aw man, not again.
Yeah, but like I said, building houses in this climate is difficult, to say the least.
We need to start a funding campaign to get you to Manchester. They're already doing it for Gagsy. :P

I don't want to put on you guys (and girls) to get me there. I should be alright, but it could hinge on whether or not the next week's wages go into my account.

I do that for the most part. I seem to be too in date with the trends that go on.
I just pick up on some of the trends that do occur, but they're more like Twitter trends, or whatever the hell you'd call them on General - shooting down Bon Jovi's death and reporting about a baby with two heads.
I love how hipsters are some sort of trend when they're meant to be against trends.

Ah, an ironic trend.

Do you really think I was going to consider that time? How about before or after when it should be clear?
We'll see - I have no idea on employment status and therefore my bank balance by then, so bear with me.
Start saving now. :P

You think I haven't? I'm already a really tight bastard at this time of year anyway, but now it's even worse!

Yeah, that will be my excuse but that's something they like to flock on.

If only this was some 10 minute review but no, they had to stretch it out as much as they could. They may as well have riffed on the movie. That actually sounds like a better idea and I honestly wouldn't mind Doug having some company with others.
Yeah, like I said, it's way too long and they needn't break it down piece by piece. A little bit of bullshit around the review is fine with me, but 45 minutes? ... Really?

Don't want to mention the guy but not even Irate Gamer puts that much padding in a review.

They'll be clogged up by F2P'ers. :P
Perhaps, but they aren't that bad are they? I actually got more annoyed by people whining about F2P'ers. And most of the early F2P'ers (like me) have probably outgrown their noob status by now.

That is very true. I am still unhappy with my ratio, but since I abondoned the majority of my sleep (who needs that anyways), I get more blams. Some crappy submissions get blammed within a short amount of time and I missed them in the past. There is a certain account who submits bad flashes every day, and still they pass, most likely through mass voting. But no namecalling from me.
I just hope that the redesign happens soon - I became addicted to making icons and I don't do much else anymore, apart from sleeping for a few hours. Which were stolen away from me today, since the loud fire alarm was on the whole time (there was no fire, thankfully).
I just wish everyone a merry christmas - for me it will be the first without my father, who died due to lung cancer. The last half year was horrible for me, to see how he got weaker every day. So, basically no christmas for me - there is simply nothing to celebrate.
And nice presents that you got there, Haggard. I hoped for Diablo 3 and/or Torchlight 2 under my christmas tree but both games releases were delayed to sometime next year. Oh well.

Still, at least you have the Rangers there. I can imagine the leagues of Austria, Switzerland, Estonia and countries like that are even more boring.
I think it happend only once that the first two teams wheren't Celtic and Rangers at the end of a SPL season. Hearts of Midlothian finished second that year. No league can beat that. Scottish First League is far more balanced. Granted, they play shitty football there, but at least all the players are on the pitch because they have fun doing it. For what those players earn in one month players from United or City wouldn't even tie their shoelaces.

Also, in Austria you have Rapid Wien, Austria Wien and "Red Bull" Salzburg. In Switzerland... Basel (who kicked out Man Utd!), Grashoppers and FC Zürich.

Yeah okay, but I'm sure there are countries where it is even more one-sided than in Scotland.

Looks like Youtube is whiping all the videos off their site.

What happened is that a supporter made his way onto the field and attacked the AZ goalie. However, the AZ goalie defended himself, worked the guy to the ground and kicked him a few times. Conform the football rules, the referee gave the goalie a red card to which the trainer of AZ called his team off the field (the whole team was pretty pissed). Then the match was stopped by the referee.
I think this a very shitty rule. Ok, Brown overreacted (but on the other hand, he got attacked first), but I really don't get why any player would recieve a yellow or a red card if they tackle a fan running on the pitch and disturbing the game. What happens if the guards catch the runner? They tackle him and get him off the ground.
So, if a guard tackles, it's ok. If a player tackles, thus helping the guards, it's a yellow card? How stupid is that?

Here are some videos of the incident by the way:
Vid 1
Vid 2 (provided by Coop)

I think the rule says something like: "Violent behaviour by the players is not acceptable under any circumstances". At least, the ref said so after the match.

I'm not sure if the red card was really necessary, but I don't think the goalie should've continued kicking the guy when he was already on the ground either. There's still a difference between self defense and simply taking revenge. The latter is what I think that the goalie was really doing.

Anyway, his red card didn't have any consequences, so he can play the next match.

Haven't seen this happening before.
I remember reading about an incident during one world cup (before yellow and red cards where invented). One player got sent off, but the referee and the player didn't speak the same language. So when the ref said "you are sent off", the player didn't understand him. Finally after 10 minutes of arguing and gesturing, he began walking off the pitch, but the rest of the team followed him. Maybe they thought: "If he leaves the pitch, we do the same!"
Must have been very amusing to witness this live.

Lol! Before cards were even invented? Must've been quite long ago.

I know there are quite a lot of videos around of funny / weird football incidents, where players attacked the ref and the other way around. Things like that :p

HA! Win against Denmark and Portugal perhaps.
And then kicking out Holland in the last group match. That would even be better than winning the title!

No, it wouldn't. But it still would be hilarious!

Well there's room for two in the next round, so Germany winning from Holland in the group phase doesn't have to matter.

Also, please leave Kung Fu Nigel at home, that guy is practicing the wrong sport!

Tough luck. Nigel is in. Better watch your faces >:)

Yeah indeed we're in the same boat. Guys like Sneijder, van der Vaart and van Persie will all be in their 30's by the next WC and you can't win with a team of grandpa's.
Yes, it's a real pity to see the career of great players end without winning one international title.
Same with Michael Ballack. He once was the team captain and undisputed in the team. But now he's not even nominated to play anymore.

Oh well, he's way too old by now anyway.

Unfortunately, there aren't that many young talents really making a name of themselves at the moment, so I think WC 2014 won't be that much of a success for us.
At least the future is looking quite good in germany. Toni Kroos, Marco Reus, Mario Götze, Thomas Müller... it's the result of the shitty performance in EC 2004. Suddendly the bosses of the DFB realized that something has to be done, and something HAD been done.

Apart from Müller I don't know any of them.

And I think the same happened here actually after the fiasco that was WC 2002 (we didn't even qualify). We got a new coach who decided to throw all the oldies out and recruit some new players. That's when van der Vaart, Sneijder, Robben, van Persie, Huntelaar and players like them came in.

Depends on where you are. Dense forest? Forget GPS. Surrounded by fucking huge houses/skyscrapers? Forget GPS.
So don't use it in London.

Yeah, can be difficult to get a good signal there. In Hamburg I usually have an accuracy of about 7m, which at least helps you to locate where you are right now.
But if you are in a really dense forest with no clear view to the sky, accuracy can be as low as 20m. Pretty useless for geocaching matters, heh.

Seriously, why hasn't the film industry come up with this idea?
We should do a massive fundraising and produce our own movie!
We may as well get somewhere since the film industry don't do that. What are the odds of them looking at our suggestion?

Maybe we could propose this idea to Troma. At least, they are the last independet film studio in the USA!

Only level 52 is butter.
I will try that once I get there (I propably won't before the redesign). The golden gauntled does have a "buttery" feel to it...
Nah, no butter there. Level 52 is the only buttery icon out there.

I hope I will never find out, due to the redesign bringing us new level icons.

Yeah okay, but I'm sure there are countries where it is even more one-sided than in Scotland.

I don't even want to imagine that.

Yeah, I saw Coop's video. I love how the goalie gets into a "fight stance" for a second there when one of the guards approaches them. You can see it at around 12 seconds into the video.

I'm not sure if the red card was really necessary, but I don't think the goalie should've continued kicking the guy when he was already on the ground either. There's still a difference between self defense and simply taking revenge. The latter is what I think that the goalie was really doing.

Yes, it's a very thin line between self defence and beating up some helpless guy. I don't know how I would react if some random guy would attack me on the pitch.

Actually, it happend during the world cup in 1966. After that the card system was invented.

Also, please leave Kung Fu Nigel at home, that guy is practicing the wrong sport!
Tough luck. Nigel is in. Better watch your faces >:)

How that guy is still allowed to play is beyond me... :/

Yeah, he was stopped by that injurie during the FA Cup final and never really recovered from it. He's still an important player for his current team, Bayer Leverkusen though.

Not too surprising. I think Kroos is 21 and Reus and Götze are even younger, I think.

And I think the same happened here actually after the fiasco that was WC 2002 (we didn't even qualify). We got a new coach who decided to throw all the oldies out and recruit some new players. That's when van der Vaart, Sneijder, Robben, van Persie, Huntelaar and players like them came in.

And at some point in their carreer, they played in the Bundesliga (except for van Persie). That's proof enought that the Bundesliga is the better league. :P

Really? Everyone needs sleep, it's impossible for us to function rationally without it. If you want to carry on on Newgrounds, then try seeing a doctor and getting some medication to give you a rational sleeping pattern. You need help.

Now this is a story, all about how my life got flipped, turned upside-down...

All right, so in early 2000 or maybe even in 1999 a friend of mine showed me a game. It was called "Pico's School" and it was on a strange website called "newgrounds.com". The game was quite fun to play, so we returned more than once to play it. We also discovered other games like "Pico vs. Überkids", or shitty but yet somewhat funny games like "Slap the slut" (I think it isn't available on newgrounds anymore).
Days and months passed, we enjoyed a new game somebody of us found and shared with the others, then we found some "Wazzuup" flashes and discovered our very fist meme (even though the word "meme" didn't exist back then, or at least we've never heard of it before). There where all kinds of flashes. Simpsons "Wazzuup", Dragonball, even some "Anti-Wazzuup" flashes.

Then one day my friend told me he created an account on Newgrounds because the more often he voted on flashes, the more experience he would get and the more power his votes had (sadly I don't remember the username anymore). Interesting stuff, right?

So, when I finally got internet at home one of the first things I did was creating an account here. And guess what? It was 12/25/01. So it's been 10 FUCKING YEARSsince I created my account!

What I hate about it, I open a tab and click when I get ready for it, and when a flash doesn't have a pre-loader it plays music that the creator has put really loud.

I'd rather that there was a menu / preloader as well, so that the piece stops when it gets to the end, rather than carrying on ad nauseum.

I got the rest obviously, I will list them...

Professor Layton - Game
Idiot Aboard Series 2 - DVD
Halo - Game
Stephen Merchant Live - DVD

That's it.

A decent showing - I have pictures here, though I've not managed to get all of the images onto one picture... just yet.

The best comedians in the world watch and listen. They notice what's going on and re-tell it in a funny way. If only I could manage the latter.
Indeed, that's the true art of comedy (and story telling).

Viral advertising for Adidas. I bet they love it.

Better than no work at all, though.
Of course I know that. Far better that than being mislead to voluntary work when they said it was a genuine job.

I'd do voluntary work while on the dole, if only to stop me from going insane...

Wasn't it like that last year?
For the August meet, but the issues with work have been with us since 2008, to be honest.
That long? Aw man.

Yeah, but things have been getting gradually worse. I only know that I've done what I can and at the end of the day, I treasure my own time, as while I suddenly might have a lot more, I would also have no money to enjoy it with.

At least he's getting SOME blams, unlike squf. :P
Oh yeah, he uses his account legit from time to time, but I suspect that he runs a bot while sleeping.
Semi legit is better than no legit, I guess. :P

It's still cheating - what's to stop me from having a program that I run while I'm asleep, voting 0 on everything, to hook those last few blams every night?

Oh yeah, morals.
