I've noticed the opposite, especially yesterday. I was voting 0/1 on about 40% of Flashes coming in, and I got just three blams, as opposed to 26 saves - a three-frame animated GIF even passed, and there are some Flashes just on the day that passed with scores of 2.3 or such non-borderline scores and have now dropped down by an entire point or so. I know the same happens every day, but yesterday it just seemed to stand out more.
Today they seem to be slightly more plentiful than on some other days, actually, I only have 8 (to 24 saves), which is 1:3 as opposed to my average of roughly 1:1.5, but it's far better than things have been over the past year or so. It's incredible how skewed it ends up considering on many days I end up voting blam on far more submissions than I do protect. Hopefully things are on an up, although I'm not sure.
I think the only way to improve it at this stage is raise the save mark slightly - even if the change itself doesn't have too much of a difference the mere fact that it has been raised will make people believe that blams could now be more common and thus vote more fairly, rather than simply fiving everything under judgement in order to raise their save count. Of course, that's just a theory, perhaps that wouldn't be enough to shatter the five-spamming culture that many people seem to find themselves in.

I'd count 8 blams and a ratio of 1:3 as pretty good going. I generally consider it a good day if I can get something approaching a 1:5 ratio. It's sad it's got that way though - I can still remember a time when that ratio was pretty much reversed!
I think the only way to improve it at this stage is raise the save mark slightly - even if the change itself doesn't have too much of a difference the mere fact that it has been raised will make people believe that blams could now be more common and thus vote more fairly, rather than simply fiving everything under judgement in order to raise their save count.
I'd agree with that - the more that people believe that blams are possible, the likelier they are to occur. Fingers crossed something like an adjusted save mark comes with the redesign...

To deposit your experience you must vote on five Flashes in a day, adding ten points to your overall. You may only do this once a day, that day being defined by the Newgrounds local time, -5 from GMT. As you reach certain preset milestones, dictated on the levels page, your icon will be upgraded to the next rank. Since the removal of referrer EXP, years and years ago, there has been no other way of gaining Experience other than this, so any hopes you have of reaching levels faster than other people will not happen, you'll have to to settle for the +10 per day flat rate.

Just wondering, have you just began reading/rereading The Hobbit or was that simply a thought running through your head? I absolutely love Tolkien, for his writing style, imagination and most of all his devotion to making his world as believable and deep as possible. Going so far as to create distinct scripts and languages for the races whom inhabit it is just incredible, even if the creation of fictional language/glossopoeia was one of his personal hobbies even without his book world.
Apologies for the doublepost, however the last one was a few hours ago, and I have a stat upgrade to post: I have just reached 2000 saves. Not too impressive considering how easy saves are to achieve, but considering about 250 have been gained in the past fortnight I'd say that it isn't to bad, especially considering I've maintained a pretty decent ratio at the same time, albeit not in the last week (so many blams being turned down D:).
Holy cow!
Group B: Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Portugal. What a group! With the exception of maybe Denmark every team can win this one. Should be very interesting.
Group D: Ukraine, Sweden, France, England. Sounds relatively easy, but we all know how England performed in a group the tabloids called "EASY" in the 2010 WC...
