It's been out of control for days now and it's exposing a lot of things about the communities. Most of them have parents who have no control over their offspring, there are frustrations out there with people who have jobs (the young people are the hardest hit when it comes to employment) and there's a lot of bad feeling towards the government who seem to be out of touch.
Basically, I think that we need to send in the army and actually start shooting people to make a point and get this stopped. If this makes me anything, it's ashamed to be English, as they have tarnished our good name. If I'm inspired to do anything, it's head to Birmingham with a broom and help with the cleanup. If I'm happy about one thing, the football's been cancelled, so it can be played at a proper time of year - this is the cricket season!

Not sure how I should feel about the London riots. On one side I think the looting and destruction is completely outrageous and would see every single one of these mindless looters spending jailtime for ruining other people's property. On one side, it was only a matter of time before something on this scale happened, with all the budget cuts and so that has directly affected many students that already struggle to get along on what little they have. I still don't think that justifies such action, nothing good will come out of it.
But as usual, I'm even more disgusted by the hatred I've seen from some. Along the lines of "line them up along a wall and shoot them". Hope it all works out in the end, with repercussions for the more violent rioters.
Riots hit Birkenhead. The punks burned some cars nearby as well as smashing windows of all shops going all the way down to where my mum works. Her shop didn't get badly damaged but I still think it's unsafe for many to even work down there right now.

But it seemed all right whenever I happened to zap through the show.
I will never know since my dutch isn't good enouh to express an educated opinion on that matter. ^^
I do think that is a much better way, but we simply don't have enough voice actors for that. Perhaps if we would dub more, more people would be willing to lend their voices...There aren't many decent dutch voice-actors around so you will often recognize the voices from other dubbed films and cartoon shows which is silly.Of course there are a few voices you can hear on different actors. The worst thing that can happen is, if a voice actor that usually does the voices for one person isn't available and some other voice actor has to do the dubbing. Bruce Willis for example is usually dubbed by Manfred Lehmann (he has a GREAT voice! Fits perfectly to Willis). But in "Die Hard with a Vengeance" Lehmann wasn't available.
OK, the guy who dubbed him is the voice actor for Schwarzenegger, so he too knows how to dub 'very manly characters', but it still kind of sucks to hear a different voice.
I think the dubs in Germany is one of the best you can find. Sometimes (if it's available on a DVD I bought for example) I watch part of movies in a different language. Most of the time it sounds awful and isn't even lip synchronized.
A downside is that I have the feeling that people from countries where movies don't get dubbed so often are much better in speaking/writing english than people from Germany.
But on the other hand I think it's funny if you recognize a voice from somewhere else and you keep thinking "Hm, where did I hear that voice before..." :)Oh hey, Hermoine sounds just like Timmy Turner...
Timmy Turner actually is dubbed by a man. :P
I mean, most of the times when you're supposed to look at what is going on on the screen (i.e: action scenes, cinematographic shots) not much is said anyway. Except for a black guy going "Oh shit!" or something, but you don't have to read subtitles to understand that :p
Yeah, but there are movies that aren't just action movies, like "Last Year at Marienbad" for example. I would hate to read all the dialogue (ah well, it's more like a monologue most of the time) in the subtitles. If I want to read something, I'd get myself a book! :P
When you do have to read a lot of subtitles is when characters are having conversations, but then there's usually not much else going on at the screen anyway so you won't miss much.
See above. "Last Year at Marienbad" has lots of dialogues and some pretty confusing images. If you have to relate to subtitles to get what is being said and at the same time you have to try and concentrate on the images... it wouldn't work out well, I guess.
But since I'm talking about a french movie right now. I never understood why there are so many french movies that make use of FRENCH subtitles. There's one french TV station I can watch on television and very often they show french movies with french subtitles. What's the use of that? ^^
Admittedly, you might see less of the actors performances, but for some actors you don't want to see it anyway :p
Hey, Steven Seagal is a great actor! >:(
Yeah well... usually it is done in such a way that it is not complete gibberish to the layman, because Americans hate reading subtitles too ;) I believe that was actually the biggest complaint of the American cinema goers when they saw Inglourious Basterds. You will get used to that too :pBut only if I can watch more movies with that accent.
Yeah, but as a native speaker it's more easy to understand the accents. If I hear some of the german accents, like bavarian, swabian or (even worse) hessian I can usually make out most of what is said. Someone who's not a german native speaker will have a hard time understanding anything.
I don't know how good your german is, but try to understand something of this video. It's the dialect of the Saarland.
Speaking of which, how did they dub that film in Germany? The different languages was kind of a big point in the film.
I don't know, I watched the original version. XD

It's shown David Cameron that he can't cut police numbers, because if anything, we need to spend more on their sector.
The jails are already full - giving each and every one of these jail time for their crimes is ludicrous. If you bring in the army, you produce corpses, which keep the jail numbers down, plus if they had jobs, you suddenly end up creating more opportunities for level headed members of society.

Surely one single dead guy who got shot by the police can't be the reason for ALL of this. :/
The original riots were to do with that. The rest was just copycats. Basically, all the yobs started causing mayhem on the streets.
Make it never but I suppose you'll hear it at some point. I think No Sacrifice, No Victory is a lot better than it and the majority hated that album.HammerFall isn't high on my list at this moment anyway.
I'm glad for that. So what is high on your list right now?
Maybe Falconer covers that.Hm, I don't know them too well so I can't comment on that.
You should give them a shot. Although I only have three of their albums, they have done some really good stuff on the self-titled album and the latest album. Their newest release is sung entirely in Swedish.
That Wylo guy kept making fun of my name. He'll pay for that!Overtired should go to sleep!

I suppose I wouldn't know about the German dub either. But I'd probably find the German dub hilarious anyway :p
I do think that is a much better way, but we simply don't have enough voice actors for that. Perhaps if we would dub more, more people would be willing to lend their voices...I think the dubs in Germany is one of the best you can find. Sometimes (if it's available on a DVD I bought for example) I watch part of movies in a different language. Most of the time it sounds awful and isn't even lip synchronized.
Still though, I'd rather see the original than a dub in most cases. I got a feeling that more of the original work gets lost by dubbing than by subbing.
I've seen a few films where they even changed the original soundtrack in the dub, and it turned out awful. It didn't suit the film at all.
A downside is that I have the feeling that people from countries where movies don't get dubbed so often are much better in speaking/writing english than people from Germany.
Probably. Watching English films and playing English video games did really help me improve my English early on in life. I think it's the reason why I ended up with one of the top grades in English class in high school ^^
And it's weird, because I've always been more of a math and physics guy than a languages guy.
Oh hey, Hermoine sounds just like Timmy Turner...Timmy Turner actually is dubbed by a man. :P
Not here he isn't. He's dubbed by a 48 year old woman, who's also an actress in the Dutch Sesame Street.
It's not uncommon for a male kid to be voiced by a woman by the way. I believe the English Ash (from Pokemon) is also dubbed by a woman.
I mean, most of the times when you're supposed to look at what is going on on the screen (i.e: action scenes, cinematographic shots) not much is said anyway. Except for a black guy going "Oh shit!" or something, but you don't have to read subtitles to understand that :pYeah, but there are movies that aren't just action movies, like "Last Year at Marienbad" for example. I would hate to read all the dialogue (ah well, it's more like a monologue most of the time) in the subtitles. If I want to read something, I'd get myself a book! :P
When you do have to read a lot of subtitles is when characters are having conversations, but then there's usually not much else going on at the screen anyway so you won't miss much.See above. "Last Year at Marienbad" has lots of dialogues and some pretty confusing images. If you have to relate to subtitles to get what is being said and at the same time you have to try and concentrate on the images... it wouldn't work out well, I guess.
Oh well, I guess that's just one problem case, but for most films it works fine.
But since I'm talking about a french movie right now. I never understood why there are so many french movies that make use of FRENCH subtitles. There's one french TV station I can watch on television and very often they show french movies with french subtitles. What's the use of that? ^^
They sometimes do that here too, but only for the news when they interview someone who talks in a horrible accent :p
Admittedly, you might see less of the actors performances, but for some actors you don't want to see it anyway :pHey, Steven Seagal is a great actor! >:(
He sure is :p
Yeah well... usually it is done in such a way that it is not complete gibberish to the layman, because Americans hate reading subtitles too ;) I believe that was actually the biggest complaint of the American cinema goers when they saw Inglourious Basterds.Yeah, but as a native speaker it's more easy to understand the accents. If I hear some of the german accents, like bavarian, swabian or (even worse) hessian I can usually make out most of what is said. Someone who's not a german native speaker will have a hard time understanding anything.
I don't know how good your german is, but try to understand something of this video. It's the dialect of the Saarland.
I could make out some lines and words, but it's difficult. Then again, I don't know if I would understand a normal German sitcom any better.
Speaking of which, how did they dub that film in Germany? The different languages was kind of a big point in the film.I don't know, I watched the original version. XD
Ah I see. I thought that film would be pretty odd if they all talked German. Considering they need someone to speak Italian at some point and Hans Landa's big thing is that he speaks four languages fluently.
Yes, of course. We all are little "Herman the German". :P*Assuming all Germans are named Herman (just like Hans Landa)* XDAt 7/20/11 11:28 AM, Haggard wrote: At 7/19/11 04:42 PM, Auz wrote:

I see. Some good titles there I guess, but I'd hope for some more good ones.
I'd at least get Metroid Fusion, Warioware and The Legend of Zelda.
Yeah, he would pretty much lose his entire European fanbase (apart from the UK) that way.I'd say it explains why his videos from this year are a whole lot better than what he did last year. Beating the shit out of FFX-2, reviewing bad movies based on fighting games and the Beastmaster reviews have shown he's made quite a comeback.
I didn't know his girlfriend left him, but I guess that would explain why he's putting out more videos (and taking more time to go through Final Fantasy X-2).
I haven't checked out Beastmaster yet, but his FFX-2 does look very good so far. Like I said before somewhere, this time it does look like he takes his time to explain the games mechanics and go more in-depth. Something I thought I was missing in his FFX review.

Heh. I've never seen that. But sometimes the original sound (ie the voices, etc) are too quiet in the original - or the sounds from the environment are too loud. Especially some of the older Columbo films have that problem. A dub (or subtitles) really helps here, because all the voices are cristal clear.

Bart Simpson is dubbed by a woman as well (Nancy Cartwright in english, Sandra Schwittau in german)
It's not uncommon for a male kid to be voiced by a woman by the way. I believe the English Ash (from Pokemon) is also dubbed by a woman.
Yes, because male kids have the problem that their voice WILL change once they get older. Grown women aren't that far away from sounding like a little kid, since their voices don't change too much in their life time.
