Yeah, it's going to be fun, meeting you guys in the first match of Group C. I was fearful of a "Group of Death", but it could have gone too far the other way, as we'll have to play a quite a bit tougher opponent in the second round. We'll see how it pans out. Quietly optimistic is my opinion at present.

England will only make it to the eighth final. There they will lose yet another penalty shootout against Germany. :P

Darren McCarty's wasn't much better though - pushing Lemieux to the boards and managing to knee him in the head. I long for the glory days, where we can deliver good clean hits on Detroit and start the melee all over again!

"Brawl in Hockey Town" Part 3?
Matches between those two teams where always exciting to watch back then. But then I slowly lost interest in ice hockey. :/

Do you love Denver sports teams for some reason? And oh yeah did you check out the World Cup Schedule. What's up with that!
Haha, Coop likes Denver sports teams and I seem to like Detroits sport teams. I also have a soft spot for the Pistons. ^^
Yeah, but I guess from the above statements that you don't like the Tigers (baseball) and I'm not sure about the Lions (NFL) Does Detroit have an MLS team?

Well, american football is almost as boring to watch as baseball, but I my favorite team in the NFL are the Minnesota Vikings. But that's just because I had a baseball cap (well, should be called "football cap" ^^) when I was younger. Then some douche tried to steal it from me and I never wore it again. ^^

Tssk. The only interesting match in the entire group phase is Portugal - Brazil =/ I find most of the other groups pretty sad and uninteresting to be honest.

I was also glad our country still got Denmark as an opponent. At least we got a little bit of competition now. I don't expect much from Japan and Cameroon to be honest.

Well, you shouldn't underestimate Japan and Cameroon. I think they are stronger than Denmark. But everything but to win this group would be a huge disappointment for Holland.

Same goes for Germany in their group, Serbia and Ghana are dangerous opponents, but Germany should win this group.

Anyway, I wish they just got rid of the protected status for awesome countries... I'd rather have a group of death with Holland, Brazil, Italy and Germany than only having interesting matches near the finals. It already seems predetermined who's gonna get to the second round and who isn't.

Yeah, but it's about the money, not the sport. Or more about the money than the sport. The TV rights for a final "Brazil vs Spain" could be sold much better to other countries than say "Denmark vs New Zealand".

My parents just use the same fucking crap year after year after year.

I never decorated my room and I won't do it this year either. :)

Quite so.
But speaking of Overkill, this is just another band I have to check out. I've seen them at Wacken Open Air a few years ago, but the sound was awful.

I don't know. I don't know any jewish people, but I'm sure they celebrate Hanukkah and not Christmas. But I thought we where just talking about when there are breaks from school and stuff. And I don't get a break from uni for Hanukkah or any other jewish holidays.

Germany have a tough task - none of the teams in Group D will just roll over. Ghana's the best team in Africa at the moment and the Serbs aren't a bad side. Humbug! My niece's first sight of the trees will be later today and we've got an obnoxious Santa Claus that dances and sings Jingle Bells. How much does her first Xmas mean to me? I changed the freaking batteries!
Why these obnoxious pieces of crap ever get made is beyond me.

Because they are great Xmas presents for someone else! You can leave them to make noise at other people's houses and watch, as they get thrown out of windows.

I think none of those countries are title candidates or anything. It will already be a sensation if any of them even makes it to the semi's. Therefore it is indeed a disappointment for both Holland and Germany if they would not win their groups. And in all the other groups there's a similar situation, except the group with Brazil and Portugal.

Anyway, I wish they just got rid of the protected status for awesome countries... I'd rather have a group of death with Holland, Brazil, Italy and Germany than only having interesting matches near the finals. It already seems predetermined who's gonna get to the second round and who isn't.

Hmm I thought Ivory Coast was considered the best African country at the moment. Which makes it very nice that they ended up in a group with Portugal and Brazil. But I'm not very familiar with the african teams. All I know is that I wouldn't bet my money on any of them making it to the finals.

The Serbs are a decent team I guess. But aren't most of their good players retired by now? Kovacevic, Kezman and players like that?

Group B is full of dark horses and Group A could throw up a surprise or two. Mexico and Uruguay are good teams at present. You can never write off a double world champion, after all.

Mexico has always had a decent team. Although I can't think of any Mexicans right now playing for major clubs. But yeah I guess they would be an underdog, which makes them a dangerous opponent.

Uruguay I do not expect that much from, but I'm interested in those matches since Suarez will be playing for them. Suarez being the topscorer for my favorite club (Ajax) and the topscorer of the dutch competition. He was well underway of making at least 40 goals by the end of the season, but sadly he hasn't scored much in the last few matches. He's currently at 17 goals out of 16. Anyway, I'd like to see how well he does on WC level.

I was also glad our country still got Denmark as an opponent. At least we got a little bit of competition now. I don't expect much from Japan and Cameroon to be honest.
Cameroon are another country to be worried about - not as potent as the Ivory Coast, with Drogba

We should win the match against Cameroon. They're not a title candidate in my eyes.

I don't know that one - not that I'm really a Futurama buff, mind you. o.o But storylines like that also show me just why I'm not; the Simpsons may have jumped the shark at a certain point, after a couple of seasons, but Futurama pretty much started that way already, despite all its funny moments etc. There's some nuggets in there, and it may be fun to watch on occasion if you have half an hour of your life to waste, but worthwhile it ain't, generally speaking.

Or maybe I'm just feeling particularly negative again today. :P

Well, it depends if Mr. Capello chooses Lampard and Gerrard in the centre of midfield - they can't cope with the pressure and they play too alike.

I think he has a good five/six months to decide on who to select.

666 posts, and how ironic that I post immediately after Psycho666, theres definitely some strange going on there. Oh well here's hoping I dont have any posts deleted too soon for no apparent reason.

And Coop, just for you.

If all goes well (and Bahamut cares to respond to my review in time), I should be on the next update of the Top 100 Flash Review Responses list.

But I'm on the edge, so I should review some more in the upcoming few days to secure my spot on the list. Anyway, glad to be on it finally. Like I said in the official topic I have been in the 101-150th regions for years now.

Yeah, but those contries are still dangerous opponents. Especially the african teams, I think people will root for them just because they are from an african country (ie people from South Africa will root for Ghana, and so on). This will make the african teams pretty strong, I think.

Give The Years of Decay a try but maybe not listen to Elimination first as that sounds very much alike to Master of Puppets and The Four Horsemen/Mechanix.

Well no, because I stated a couple of months ago that I would never give them to (NG) anniversary's. Reason being that they actually require no effort.

So even if there was a Safety Patrol vs 10 Years on NG, I would still give it to the Safety Patrol

That's true. Usually the country that hosts the tournament gets pretty far (except Austria and Switzerland :p) I also heard several coaches and football journalists claim that an African country will win the cup this time.

So I guess some of them are in an underdog position, which might bring them far in the tournament.
