Heh. Anything's worth it for a chance to see Led Zep when I was born in 1977 and never had the chance to see them in my childhood, obviously.

I've got nothing like that, I'm too young, but my dad really should see them, he never got to first time around. I'd buy him a ticket instead of going if I can only get one :D

Well, you go and see There Will Be Blood when you get the chance, it is excellent as well.

It's released this friday, I will see it :D

Hey all, I'd just like to say I'm now back from London and I had a fucking great time there! I'll be doing catch-ups tomorrow after coming back from work experience.

My friend missed just a day of depositing for me, but I guess that was Internet problems and at least he did deposit for the other days.

Elite Guard Supreme Commander!

Finally, I return to the BBS just to post this one achievement. It's been almost three years, and I've taken a lot of breaks, but I've done it at last. I've reached the final b/p rank and achieved 60% of my voting power.

I may try to get a 20k / 20k b/p ratio, but I don't make any guarantees, as I'm becoming more and more inactive as the days go by. It'd be cool, so I figure I'll give it a go, and if I can't seem to make it, at last I got to the final rank, which is all that counts in the end.

It's been fun, and I must say, this is an achievement I'm extremely proud of. EGSC #116 (or #117 if you count SevenStar) ... It was a good run. :)

That's a QOTSA song? It sounds really familiar, I think another band has a song or an album title with the same name. Argh, now it's driving me crazy...
According to Wikipedia, it's also an album title from Fatboy Slim and a song from Adema (never heard of them, though).

Fatboy Slim album, yep. That's it. Thanks, man. I so lazy. #;-}>

Well, that too. But it's a part of Great Britain, which contains a tad bit more than just Scotland, England and Wales ;) .
If N. Ireland is considered the "tad bit more," I suppose. #;-}>
I think Northern Ireland can be considered "a tad bit more" ^^.

I should hope it be considered a bit more than a tad bit, but oh well. It'll have to do. #;-}>

Long story short: No one in Poland cares if things are faked or not (HOORAY FOR STEREOTYPES! :P ).

Recon's the recipe master. I swear, he ALMOST makes me want to cook. Almost. #;-}>
You should try it sometime. I never used to be into cooking all that much, but I started getting into it a few years ago, and it's quite nice making a good meal. Good to impress a girlfriend's parents, I've found :)

I took cooking lessons and was into cooking when I was a kid, actually.

I never said I've never cooked. Just haven't been into it much in my adult life.

I do enjoy exploring literature, and occasionally writing the odd bit of prose, so it's a strong possibility. I really have no experience of Law, although I know I could do a degree in it if I put my mind to it.

You could always do English lit and then go to law school after, right?

That's pretty impressive. It's not often that you come across somebody who wouldn't seize the chance to make their millions when it came along.

Obama is teh man. Not The Man, though. Fortunately.

My gf and I are voting for Obama here in Texas. My mom was leaning more towards Hillary Clinton, but I think she's shifted towards Obama in the past couple of months. I'm not sure if I've managed to convert my dad, too. But hopefully all 4 of our votes will be going for him.
Heh, you propaganda wizard, you.

Yeah, that's me. #;-}>

To be honest, even I'm pretty intrigued with it.

NOVEMBER CAN'T GET HERE SOON ENOUGH.

I imagine because British users are just more seldom seen on the BBS, and even when one does come across a British user, it's not always clear that they are actually British unless you check out their profile. I remember somebody recently thought NintendoMadness was Canadian.

Heh.

In any event, Wi/Ht? certainly has a high concentration of smart and/or funny folks from the UK, so it's always fun around these parts thanks to you lot. AND NO, I WILL NOT BE SPECIFYING WHO IS WHOM. #;-}>
Heh, I think the Wi/Ht generally has a lot of intelligent, fun people, British or not. It's always a nice experience posting in these forums, which is largely due to the regulars being so accommodating. The General forums, on the other hand, is full of users who will openly flame you for saying anything other than a tired, worn out, overused 4chan meme.

Sure it does, but seriously I don't remember a time in the Wi/HT? history when there were this many Brits around. I mean, way back in the day jonthomson was the only one around (that I can think of)... and then came Denvish, of course, and others.

I learned Spanish for 2 years, Japanese for 2 years, Latin for 3 years, Greek for 1 year, and French for 1 year. I'm not fluent, but it was good to have a range of language.
Showoff :P

But like I said, I never got fluent. I don't retain very much due to the smattering of instruction/immersion I experienced in each but never enough in any one to get great at it.

Sometimes you get foreign users posting completely unintelligible posts, which is slightly annoying, but you can't condemn them for trying. What's even more annoying though is when you get people flaming foreign users out of the water for making a few mistakes in their English.

Especially if they hilariously make errors in their own posts.

The more experience you have, the higher your base voting power is. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yep. So many newbies seem to think that a new level should = some big boost in VP, when of course... it's a gradual process tied to exp, not level, though of course level is tied to exp.

Hence the confusion, I guess.

Dire Straits - Walk of Life

One of my fave Dire Straits.

After Sultans of Swing, for sure, though. Best EVER.

I'm just in the habit of voting on some of my fave flash every single day. I vote on BEEBO and Marc M flashes with all three of my accounts every day. But you know what? I'll think about changing to voting on some UJ flashes with gfoxcook every day, and then my two alts can vote on BEEBO and Marc M afterwards (just not as many)... so it'd be the best of both worlds. And then the saves would at least trickle in... 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 a day. Not a bad idea, man. THANKS, AUZ!
You're welcome ;)

Tbh I'm a little suprised you never thought of that before =/

Actually, I've had at least 2-3 other users recommend that same method to me that you just did.

But I didn't take them up on their advice. But I did take you up on yours, and I gained 38 saves in the past week as a result of it. Thanks again for your great advice. I guess I just had to hear it enough times...

It also helps that I've been trying to get my saves up since last June or so, yet failing for the most part, aside from on Clock Day... that may have helped convince me.

Also, I always liked to use my main account's high VP to get the BEEBO scores up as much as possible, but gfoxclock and gfox are so high in exp and base VP now, too, that they can do a decent enough job on their own in raising my fave flashes' scores every day during depositing... while gfoxcook can gain 3-5 saves or so.

God, that must of been epic. If that was posted in the General I bet it would of reached around 200 pages.

Wow.

Choccie you say? :3

Choc choc GOOD GOOD!

I can normally tell when they spell words differently to English and stuff in America whihc isn't in England.

I spell most words that have a difference the English way, though (note: I don't claim all, just most. There are some words I prefer the American spelling on, but most z/s and o/ou cases I side with the English way). SO HOW ABOUT THAT?

Throws a little wrench into your plans, eh wot?

Congrats.... but your VP won't be fitting until it's hit 7.77(77), yanno...
Yanno?

"You know."

You're saying there's more clever British NG users proportional to idiot British NG users.... than clever American NG users proportional to idiot American NG users?
Meh, I think there's just less British users overall, which creates the illusion that there are more stupid American users, when in reality the ratio is probably more or less the same. Doesn't matter to me where they're from, intelligence is intelligence.
You can make me change my mind on any topic. You make great speeches. #:3

Well, I'll be talking about the Rugby to various Welshmen this morning about how they scarcely deserved to beat Italy by the huge margin that they did.

Nope, I had been working on the cricket pitch for about 4 hours - hard maintenance work takes it out of me. I was waiting for enough for a good soak in the bath.

HUZZAH! New crickettobatto.

It plays really well, with the middle of the bat being about 1.5-2" thick, so I can really get a good piece of wood behind the ball.

Delivering a contract for work - we're buying a piece of land that is costing us a seven-figure sum, which we will build lots of houses on. The boss said it would take me about 1 hour each way. My total time, after a little light socialising with said vampire, sorry, solicitor was 5 hours.

I so lazy. #;-}>

Awesome! I called it, I called it, I called it!

You: 2 - Everyone else: 0 :P

I've got nothing like that, either. Like I said, I was born in 77. Unless I saw them when I was 0, 1, or 2... there was no way for me to see them, either. #;-}>

Well I've seen baby clothes with Led Zep stuff on them but I suppose even if you went you wouldn't remember it :P

I actually saw it earlier today. I wanted to see it before the Oscars.
It won best adapted screenplay, supporting actor, director, and picture.

Woop, but I'm not gonna say if it deserved to take away from TWBB until I see it.

TWBB only won best cinematography (which was gorgeous, BTW) and best actor.

Yeah I heard, it's all over the Irish news, with Daniel Day-Lewis being part Irish or whatever, sure I knew he was gonna win it, it was obvious. And it's just makin this Friday's wait a little longer now. Stupid European release dates :(

I was a bit disappointed by that. Don't get me wrong, I agree with you that NCFOM is a great movie, too. But I personally enjoyed TWBB quite a bit more, plot-wise and characters-wise and visuals/scenery-wise, too.

Again I won't judge till I see it. But I suppose being the Coen Brothers, NCFOM was always gonna win alot of awards. I don't really agree with whole academy thing deciding the best movies etc. Cause if they don't like you no matter how good you are you'll never win anything. Needs to be reformed in my opinion

My friend missed just a day of depositing for me, but I guess that was Internet problems and at least he did deposit for the other days.

Ah well. Life goes on, I suppose.

Haven't we all. Personally I relish the distraction that NG provides me with.

At 2/25/08 02:59 AM, gfoxcook wrote: What would the spendy be on?

Well, if I decided to drink, I'd end up spending quite a bit on beer and such. I didn't actually drink in the end, as I decided that it's better to save as much money as possible for travel expenses, as I'm hoping to go to Australia to stay with a friend of mine in May. Need to book the ticket by March 10th though, hence the need to save cash.

Unless it's too spendy for you, how about drinking and then taking a cab home? Unless the friend's house is way too far away and all, but hey... you're not in super-wide-open-spread-out USA over here, so it can't be THAT far away. #;-}>

Ah but the thing is, I live about 15-20 miles outside of the nearest *good* city for evenings out, and cab drivers tend to try and take the piss a bit with fares, especially when you've had a few and they think they can extort you out of more money.

One time a friend and I had a foreign cab driver, and he tried to charge us £60 for a 5-6 mile journey, which is just under $120 at the current exchange rate. Extortionate, no? We refused to pay and called the cab company, and he drove off before we could get through to them. The cab company said afterwards that if it happened again, we should take his driver's number and report him. Meh, free journey, I guess.

ABSENT IS GONE? Oh my gods. Lame. ;_;

I guess so. He hasn't posted or anything since he created that news post, and comments are disabled. It is indeed pretty lame.

I took cooking lessons and was into cooking when I was a kid, actually.

I never said I've never cooked. Just haven't been into it much in my adult life.

Fair enough, then. I only really cook when I have the time, so once I've finished with my gap year and I'm working full time, etc, I probably won't have a lot of time for it.

You could always do English lit and then go to law school after, right?

I could do, but due to my Army aspirations, I'd prefer to go in at a reasonably young age, which means taking one or the other. If I did both, it would probably end up being 6-7 years in University, meaning that by the time I go to Sandhurst (the officer training academy), I'd be about 26-27, and then Sandhurst is another year of training before receiving your formal commission. I'd be within the age limit for going to Sandhurst (29), but I'd prefer to be younger when I go, as it's fairly physically demanding.

Ahh life plans FTW!!

Sure it does, but seriously I don't remember a time in the Wi/HT? history when there were this many Brits around. I mean, way back in the day jonthomson was the only one around (that I can think of)... and then came Denvish, of course, and others.

It's a golden age of diversity for the Wi/Ht?! :)

But like I said, I never got fluent. I don't retain very much due to the smattering of instruction/immersion I experienced in each but never enough in any one to get great at it.

Some people seem to pick up languages fairly easily. One of my friends whom I went to Amsterdam with last year picked up Dutch over the course of the week that we were there for. Obviously, he wasn't anywhere near fluent by the end, but he easily knew enough to get by, which is impressive to me, as I'm not that great with learning foreign languages.

Especially if they hilariously make errors in their own posts.

The irony fairy is tripping them up :P

They won't like that :) My dad is a Wales supporter, but he actually lives in Wales so I don't have to put up with his nonsense. Did you happen to catch the Ireland vs. Scotland match? I saw the highlights after the England game, and the Irish really look in top form this season. I was really impressed with some of their tries.

I just got 6,000 Saves, which isn't the greatest achievement, but it's OK. It really is taking forever to get blams these days.

A few months back, I went and looked up the old 1-30 levels and the EXP needed right before Tom launched the re-design, because I wanted to see what it would have took for me to reach level 13, 14, 15 etc. It seems that today, had the old system existed, I would have hit level 13. I know that isn't impressive anymore, but I know I would have whored myself around had I been able to reach that before the redesign came and sort of de-valued all the levels on Newgrounds.

New levels of EXP make me a sad panda.........

Far away, across the field, the tolling of the iron bell

Calls the faithful to their knees, to hear the softly spoken magic spells.......
