Additionally, there's no real social feeling to the thread like there is in the LUL - probably because most of the users who post in there are fairly self-involved, whereas this thread is about other people's achievements as well as your own.

Yeah, it would probably still happen without it, but I think the topic instigates it to a degree. It's the snowball effect - users go too far out of their way to find abusive reviews, which leads to overzealous (and often incorrect) flagging, which leads to desperation to get a higher whistle, which leads to users abusing the system for their own gain.

Admittedly, this is a rare and extreme example, but it happens, and it probably wouldn't happen so much without that thread.

Nah, but gauntlets is gauntlets, and I like the new bronze ones better than the old level 17.

I like the buckles on this one. The original gauntlets did look fairly similar, but they were awesome nevertheless - especially the golden level 25 one.
