I may have missed this idea when I was looking for it, if it has already been brought up, sorry about that. But I was thinking of an automatic lock on threads. This sounds a bit edgy at first but I was thinking about how liljims thread remover comes to play in this. What if threads could be locked if no one replies them in a year or so, I thought of this idea when I first saw users try to revive threads from 2000-01 looking all the back and being able to reply to them. It's just an idea and nothing more, although one thing that would confront this is getting rid of people favorite threads. There are many things that may not work with this idea, but it's just a thought.

Idea: Mods need different colored writing, green or something, just in case they post and I skip something important in a thread and act stupid (note: admins having white because usually what they post is important), then I can read through quickly and find anything important in a thread that I need to read up on.

A forum specifically for forum games maybe?

One small thing I thought of would be maybe one or two more emoticons with which to garner your posts with. It wouldn't be a huge deal, nor very important, but it would also help to fill out the space left by the newly extended post field.

While we're on the subject of mostly unimportant things purely for fun and aesthetics, why not change the "browse" button for attaching an image to the same color and font scheme as all the other buttons on the post page. The HTML Aids buttons and the 'Clear' and 'Post It!' button are all the same scheme, but the 'Browse' button sticks out like a sore thumb.

I've been thinking that there should be profile mods. Some profiles, I've seen non-work safe images as people's profile pictures. I don't like that since I have no idea what some user's profile picture is and could be pornographic and I'm sure there will be people that won't like that. Also on profiles, I've seen people using the N-Word on their profiles such as the profile message and I'm sure that isn't allowed. Here's one example of an account that uses the word:

Add "More than 50k views" and those types of awards to the "Portal awards" listing in the profile.

Ok... So... How do you think we should do that for people who have more than one movie? One that might have +50K views and one that has maybe a couple of thousand views?

The same way you list the daily feature awards. Like so, perhaps:

Portal awards:
1. The Adventures of BlobBob, Daily Feature, 4/6/05
2. The Adventures of BlobBob, More than 50k views
3. Some other movie, More than 1 million views

I can't remmember seeing this:
Portal ban if 5 (+/-) entries of the same author was blammed in one month (+/-).
I don't think something like this exists because lots of Piconjo's submissions are getting blammed and he keeps submitting all the time.
This can also teach an author to know better.

DonDoli's idea just inspired me to something!

Let's take a user that has many many flashs.
I want to see his best flashs, but I can't decide which of them and no time to look at all or it's just boring passing through all of them, or other purposes.
How about having the same colors as in the portal:
Black - normal score (1.6000 to 2.9999)
Green - good score (3.0000 to 3.49999)
Blue - excellent score (3.50000+)

I posted this in the first evolution thread, but I don't know if it was answered. How about moving the serach bar to the top of the page? That would probably decrease the amount of people who don't search for a topic. Having it at the bottom of the page makes it less noticable.

i think there is a mistake on the statistics page. When you click the "?" which is next to "Movies with best reviews vs. popular vote," and "Movies with worst reviews vs. popular vote" it takes you to the top of the page where it says "Here are some interesting bits of information culled from The Portal." Where i think it should be taking me to the bottom of the page where it says "NOTE: the differential is determined by taking the average review score for a submission minus twice the popular rating." I think it might be better to have a small popup, similar to the grounds gold user screen, to come up when you click it instead of scrolling down the page, either way, i think it should be directing downwards.

I'm sure that this has been suggested, but I'm not sure about it. In the C & C area there are a bunch of people who make clubs, then complain when it's either locked or deleted, so I was possibly thinking that ramagi's thread about the rules could be put under the rules on the top of the page. Although many people barely take the time to actually read the rules, some might, if they plan on making a successful club. This is just an idea.

Just an idea here....so just go with it. Ok....Imagin how awsome it would be to have NG on T.V. Showing all your favorite artist's New and old flash cartoons. Instead of clicking on a bunch of movies at the same time and finding a way to spend your time until it loads (like me....56k user) You could just turn your tv on and watch your fav artists. Of course Games wouldnt be on there but Great flash like Pico and others. And imagin flash users faces lighting up seeing their flash on T.V. Im sure there would be plenty of shows. The site could also act as a reference for the flash. If you liked the artist or flash you could come directly to the site and look them up and watch the flash you saw on tv or any of their other works. Also you wouldnt have to worry about lag and crappy computer users wouldnt worry about anything running too slow or the flash not loading. Maybe it could come on adult swim or HBO or something. Just imagin the possibilities. Now I dont post a lot but i bet a lot of you would love to see this. Maybe you have Ideas on how it could work. actually i posted this earlier this year, but i didnt see it listed in the first post in this topic,,, so ill bring it up again.

it would be nice to have a search option in the obituaries. for those of us who spend lots of time in the portal,,, its sometimes nice to be able to search for information about movies we remember seeing or have downloaded but have already been deleted from ng.

there are many movies ive downloaded from the portal, and yet, i dont remember the dates, nor the exact names of the entries,,, so it's impossible for me to find the page for them in the obituaries. i'd just like to know who created them.

How about the option for movies only, that you can know the length of the movie.
I don't know the profits of it, but sure can help some. Yet it's probably just be nice to have..

Ok, this is a totally fucked, out there suggestion, but please read what i type anyway.

As you know alot of users like to keep their exp climbing even if they dont blam/protect review or even post, so heres the whacked out suggestion.

Some sort of bot page where you submit your username password and account details, and it automatically deposits for you over a stretch of time, ofcourse people would abuse the system, but thats why you charge them :D Say 1 £/$ a day for a deposit. So if someone was going away on holiday, they could paypal or use some other way 10 quid/dollars to the NG account and get their exp deposited on time, because we all know trusting your account to someone else is always a risk, but its a risk most people take because they want their exp kept in check. It would also bring a few quid into the NG coffers, and help out around the place. I dunno the bandwidth or space it would take up, but i cant imagine it would be too much, all you have to do is think of the benefits, and ofcourse the MONEY :D

i no people have said about the search before, but what about the options once youve searched. for instance what about how the results are displayed, because sometimes you can find what your looking for and all it would need is if they were in date (for example) order.

Well, I posted this as a topic and out of pure irony it got locked!

Over my last year as a BBS user I have noticed that although there are many blocked posts are just people aiming to be alkward or annoying there are also many that are caused by people not being aware of the BBS rules. My suggestion for Tom and the hard working mods is that in order to have the BBS activated on your account you have to pass a test on the bbs rules. This would ensure everyone using the bbs are totally aware rules like not discussing piracy, words that are off limits (like the n-word), that posting somthing to the effect of 'hi guys, im new here isnt allowed' and what kind of sigs and pictures are allowed. This would also allow mods to clamp down on bbs users more harshly for breaking these rules.

Agree with this idea? Please post to say so! Also any ideas for the questions that would be on this test?

Not sure if this has been mentioned but it seems to me that the Audio Portal seriously needs some sort of juke-box. Not just that random song on the page stuff, I mean an interactive jukebox that will let you pick a genre and then just play everything in the portal under that heading built right into the page. I have no idea how the logistics would work for this idea in terms of bandwidth, etc, so feel free to shoot it down in flames. It's just a suggestion, after all.

Ok i know most people use sigs for the bbs, but i was thinking if somebody doesnt use a sig maybe they could have that space for 3 more lines of text... Like i know it would only apply to a few people but there are some times when i really want more space for text in my sig, and a lot of the time i'd be willing to give up my sig for that space...

How about this?

When a user is online, there could be a text bar in his/hers profile saying where that user currently is located on the NG. And when taht user is offline, this bar could tell us that.

What purposes does that serve? Well, let's say you want to find a user who doesn't have either Aim or MSN, but still wan'ts to talk to him regarding any random thing, but don't want to search each forum on the BBS.

Here's something that's been slightly irritating me. When posting a message, the quick navigation links at the top only lead to NG BBS, leaving out the thread I'm replying to or the forum I'm in. So why not link to those areas as well? If we choose not to write the message, there's no direct way for us to get back to the thread or forum we were browsing. I realize we could just click the back button in our browser, but then the page isn't refreshed. And although I'm certainly not a programmer, it looks like a fairly simple change.
