Well I finally got through the Elite 4 on Platinum. I just couldn't be bothered to train my team to a very good level, so I only managed it through a combination of A LOT of Hyper Potions and Max Revives. Meh.

At least now I'm up to the Battle Frontier, which was probably my main reason for purchasing Platinum. I'm still missing a few from the Sinnoh dex though - namely Azelf, Mespirit, Uxie (obviously), Manaphy, Rotom, Umbreon, Leafeaon, and oddly, Prinplup. I'll probably go and root out the trainers I've missed and the legendaries I need to see at some point later.

Trained the first member of my planned team today. Gyarados.

IVs:
HP - 26
Attack - 25
Defence - 4
Special Attack - 11
Special Defence - 20
Speed - 31

EVs:
Attack - 252
Speed - 252
Defence - 4

Moves:
Ice Fang
Waterfall
Dragon Dance
Thunder

Apart from the poor defence, I'm pleased with it.

Also, mrbobbyjoe, I have Torchic, and can breed you one if you want. You can just have it, don't want anything for it.

Did you net it an Attack boosting Nature, or are you just going with whatever you got since the IVs seem decent already? Also, what item are you giving it to hold? Like PV said, I'd recommend a Life Orb or Choice Band, or maybe even Leftovers to help it live longer.

IVs:
Defence - 4

Uh...ouch.

Moves:
Ice Fang
Waterfall
Dragon Dance
Thunder

Thunder? Why'd you give Gyarados, whose Sp. Atk rating is half of his Attack one, Thunder? The Sp. Atk IV on yours seems to be lacking compared to its Attack IV anyway. I would suggest replacing Thunder with either Stone Edge or Earthquake for type coverage, as well as the fact that the base powers for either move would go well with Gyarados' Attack.

If you're going to be giving any Electric attacks to your team, you should give them to Alakazam, just since he seems to be the main Special Attacker on your team. Only thing is, Shock Wave is the strongest Electric move Alakazam can learn, except for HP Electric. You could substitute Starmie in for Alakazam, but that's cutting off a fair bit of Sp. Atk power for one move.

Also, mrbobbyjoe, I have Torchic, and can breed you one if you want. You can just have it, don't want anything for it.

That'd be nice. If you need it, I could give you a Stone Edge/Earthquake TM to replace Thunder on Gyarados if you decide to follow my advice.

Yeah, it's Adamant. I haven't beaten Battle Tower enough to get the held items yet, though, so that'll have to wait.

Yeah, I'll probably drop Thunder for Stone Edge, I just wanted one electric attack in my team. Can Gyarados learn any physical electric ones? I can't think of any if he can.

Stone Edge would be great. I already have a couple of Earthquakes, but I only have one Stone Edge, and I plan to give it to Tyranitar, which is why I gave Gyarados Thunder, I just didn't have anything to fill the last slot.

Why waste it on Tyranitar? It learns Stone Edge by levelling up - at level 54 to be precise. Just use the Stone Edge on Gyarados, and get Tyranitar to learn it by level up.

Also, my memories have been brought back of how frustrating the Battle Factory is... ARGH >:(

If you tried to breed Latios and Latias, somehow produce an egg (though unlikel), would that be considered incest?

Doesn't basically all Pokemon breeding rely on incest? I mean, when I was breeding my Magikarps I often had Magikarps breeding with their great-grandchildren.

Trying to catch a Beldum makes me want to cry. Sandstorm AND it's only move is Take Down AND catch rate of 3. It's ridiculous.

Gave up and took a level 1 one from the GTS for a Chimchar instead.

Yeah. Managed to trade the level 1 one for a level 52 one, someone obviously wanted to raise one from scratch (why they didn't just breed it I don't know), and then leveled it up twice to get Metagross. Just for Pokedex entries, mind, if I want one for my team I'll breed it and start again.

Yeah,That's the only reason I need a lv 50ish Beldum.I know that Metagross is a good pokemon, but it's just not my type of pokemon.Reason being the same.
lol does the Beldum have a bad nature? They might of thought that the nature might of passed on to the new Beldum.Or he/she has never even heard breeding.

Hmmm...I might try trading mine too...

Lol, Beldum. What a pain in the arse Pokemon to catch. Thank goodness I just transferred my Metagross over from Emerald and bred for a Beldum... I <3 my Metagross. Saved my arse a heap of times.

Does anyone have advice for the battle factory? I've been spending about a week now trying to get the gold print from Thornton, but only coming dangerously close to hurling my DS against the wall.

Half the time it feels like I see "your opponent has Gyarados, Tyranitar, and Garchomp." Well, guess what? The best team available to me is Quagsire, Ampharos, and Hypno!

I've obtained the silver print and made it to about 30 battles. I managed to get the gold prints from the other facilities, but I still need the gold factory print to complete the collection.

I already know to pick a good lead, try to pick good counters to the opponent (a fairly obvious one), and to pray for something outside the NU tier, but is there something else I can do?

Sigs are overrated.

Nothing, forget it.
Anyway, I just defeated the Elite four yesterday (I had a big problem with Garchomp)
and now I'm trying to fill up the pokedex.
Here's my new team.
(please give opinions about what Item I should give them)

Torterra lvl.51
Wood Hammer
Earthquake
Iron Tail
Rock Smash (Give an attack to replace)

Togekiss lvl.48
Aura Sphere
Shockwave
Air Slash
Extremespeed

Floatzel lvl.52
Surf
Waterfall (Give an attack to replace)
Crunch
Ice Beam

Toxicroak lvl.50
Stone Edge
Poison Jab
Brick Break
Ice Punch

Magnezone lvl.49
Discharge
Flash Cannon
Mirror Coat
Thunder Wave

Houndoom lvl.52
Flamethrower
Dark Pulse
Shadow Ball
Thunder Fang

And that's pretty much it.

Actually it was my second time to try and beat them. My first try was a week ago.
I used 60 hyper potions and 40 revives at my first try.
And suprisingly, I only used 35 hyper potions and around 20 revives,
It took a lot of strategizing. And about an hour to do finish them off.

I didn't really expect there to be some kind of secret trick to help me. On my first try, I made it to 34 wins before getting my ass handed to me by a swords dance/bullet punch Scizor. Since then I haven't been able to make it past 14 wins. I've been trying for a week now and I'm about to just say "screw it! I don't need the gold print!"

I guess instead of nonexistent advice I just needed an outlet for my rage and frustration.

Yeah, I totally understand. I'm actually familiar with that Bullet Punch Scizor, though I was on the opposite side of the fence thank goodness. It was useful, but I still didn't manage to finish the streak, thanks to a combination of bad luck... well, actually LOTS of bad luck. Which seems to happen a lot in all the Battle events...

What do you think a better set up of attacks between my Gyarados and Tyranitar would be?

Gyarados with:
Waterfall
Dragon Dance
Ice Fang
Stone Edge

Tyranitar with:
Crunch
Stone Edge
Pursuit
Earthquake

OR

Gyarados with:
Waterfall
Dragon Dance
Ice Fang
Earthquake

Tyranitar with:
Crunch
Stone Edge
Pursuit
Aqua Tail

Also, not sure on Tyranitar having both Crunch AND Pursuit. Pursuit might be good for dealing damage to stuff that's normally switch out as soon as Tyranitar comes out, but if I'm using a choice item it'd mean he'd have to switch out after one attack anyway, so he could be unlocked from it and start using Crunch or Stone Edge instead.

They're both good options. It really depends on what the rest of your team can handle I suppose. If you're fine with fire, rock and ground, the go Earthquake for Tyranitar. Also, you're right about the Pursuit factor. If you're using a choice item, I'd give it a miss.

As for Gyarados, I normally would go with Earthquake to cover any electric types, which is useful if you're holding the electric-resistant berry and survive the hit.

Gyarados with:
Waterfall
Dragon Dance
Ice Fang
Earthquake

Tyranitar with:
Crunch
Stone Edge
Pursuit
Aqua Tail

I'd go with this set. Aqua Tail is pretty useful for Tyranitar because of it's weakness to ground types,
and I agree with ParadoxVoid about giving Earthquake to Gyarados.

I got to Lucian with a team of mid-level 30's, highest being level 37 and lowest being 33. By that time I was laughing to death, since I got incredibly lucky with the Critical Hit! + It's Super Effective! combos throughout every match. I wasted about 30-40 Revives and Hyper Potions though, since one hit killed everything except my Empoleon during the matches.

...And then Lucian proceeded to demolish my team with Psychics. I wish I could've gotten to Cynthia, but that would've been pushing my (normally crappy) luck to its limit.
