Not everyone has common sense and it's not like it's stopped people before. I'm behind this plan 100 percent, but I know people who just come onto the portal and go at the judgement flashes. They don't use the BBS, they don't look at the front page and since they've been getting away with it so far they aren't going to see a need to change until it's too late. Just seems overly facist to me. It's completely up to the admin of course if they want to take it to that level, but I've always got a laid back vibe "have reasonable fun guys" from most of the admin.

... LOL WOW this signature is ancient.
I do this all the time. It's great. I have like, 7 blam/save points and not one time did I watch the movie. This one time, I even blew the whistle on something AND I DIDN'T REALLY WATCH IT.
I todl u i was hardcore.
I'll admit that I do this once and a while. Usually I don't weatch the whole flash movie. Only half of it or so. unless I open it and it is some stick fucking another stick. Then I close it right away and give er the blam.
Is it alright if we open it and it is like super bad, like some circle floating across the screen. And then close it right away and blam it ? or do we have to go threw the torture of watching the circle bounce up and down ?
just wondering....
What if one of those Piconjo Day events happen again? Is it ok if vote 0 on all of the submissions that are supposed to spam the portal? Of course I wouldn't vote wrongly on all of the good submissions. :)
I don't understand. How would you know if someone watched all of something or not? This threat doesn't make sense to me. The only thing that needs to be changed about the portal is checking flagged movies in the portal (this is a hint to you, Wade. One of mine has been sitting there for 6 days now). Could you please clarify on your strategies on catching people who don't view the submissions?

Only about 1000 people posted yesterday, which was Sunday so it should have been pretty busy. That's 600,000 users. Discounting alts and people who don't vote there's probably about 2,000 voters.
You know what? They snooze they lose. Burn them all.

How would that change anything? What if they thought chluaid's next submission really is worth a 0 even if it gets an average of 4.69? It's an opinion, so how can you tell wether they're cheating by what they voted?
Also, I don't think this is really a huge deal. There's enough honest voters to save good work and BLAM bad work.

I'm behind this post 100%. It doesn't take me long before I can recognize a movie that's absolute crap, so I close the animation early and vote zero all the time. You can't tell me that I need to sit through the damn thing because somebody worked hard on it- it's painfully obvious in the first ten seconds which submissions involve no work whatsoever. I think it's pretty ridiculous to issue vague threats like this because changing my voting pattern won't change the fact that I'll be blamming the absolute crappiest submissions no matter what. Here's hoping you're open-minded enough to realize this and you keep your admin powers in check.

It'll be apparent if the person is doing it overly much.

Actually fad voting is on the rise again.

They just vote all O's, or all 5's, or they look at the author's batting average and cast a vote based on that, etc. All they want is to rack up the points as fast as possible.
Yeah, they just want to look good. Even with the thing how you have to watch the movie before rating it, people probably just open and close it straight away then vote 0 or 5. People also cast a vote based on the file size of the movie. If a movie was 25kb or anything under 100kb they would just go and vote 0 straight away. Its not fair for the creators, although most movies under 100kb do get blammed but some are good like Aussie Xmas 2, that was cool.

what if we watch about 30 seconds to a minute of the clip, and see all it is is a friggin stick figure floating across the screen, but the clip is ten minutes long? or if we watch a few seconds, seeing that its a bunch of random colors and decide to blam it? i just wanna know how long we have to watch in order to not get punished.
This is a web site.
They are admins.
If they felt like wasting tons of HDD space and tons of time, they could log and read every link every registered user clicked. Making a simple script that alerted them when someone clicked the "vote" link before clicking the "watch movie" link would be a cakewalk.
However, Wade, you do realize it's only a matter of time before someone writes a script or program that will just click on the view link first and then vote...
Sadly I see no real stopping the problem. When things are in high demand, people will do anything to get them within their abilities.

Two things: One being that your sig is absoulutely awesome, and the second being that people can't vote on a movie until they have clicked on the "watch this movie" link (when it is under judgement). That was done a yearish ago to help slow down the wrong way of voting.

Correction. MOST people can't. On a Mac running OSX and Safari, the vote buttons show up immediately. I imagine other browsers or settings or so-forth can cause this to happen for Windows sufferers as well.
People are endlessly good at finding ways to get around rules to their advantage.

Hmm, I don't use Macs, so I wouldn't know. As for windows users doing the same, I've run 4 different types of browsers and as far as I know you can't do anything of the sort with windows.

ain't that the truth.

Thanks for the warning, time for Newgrounds to tighten up!
I dont usually use the BBS, but this topic caught my eye. & it was amusing to read some ngusers systematic breakdown of how they thought the admin would be able to differeniate the guilty from the innocent.
sometimes I notice that the voting box appears before a movie is actually loaded. Is that an unavoidable glitch? Is it even a glitch?
stupid question I guess.
I think the practice of uninformed voting is only acceptable when there is one of those pleasant children resubmitting the same rubbish twice, for every user name they have created.

yeah, people just click on watch this movie then the vote panel comes up then they close the window and vote 0 or 5
At 12/5/04 11:59 PM, WadeFulp wrote: However, we have been aware of some users abusing our system. They think it is fun to rack up the BLAM and SAVE points we award to our users who take the time to help filter through all the content. These people have been voting on entries without watching them in hopes of increasing their point totals. Well, we have news for you, we know who you are and are watching.
I think, perhaps, it would be advantageous to track the time between when the user opens the flash page, and votes on it. If the time is too short, then you know the person didn't actually watch the movie.
You could also re-introduce the way it used to be. You were allowed to vote on the movie only after the movie had completely loaded. The problem with that is that some movies are flawed and simply cannot load. The way to fix this is to put a timer on a flash. If it doesn't load within a certain period of time, then you should display the vote panel.
So know this, those users who we catch doing this will have ALL of their BLAM and SAVE points removed. If you continue we will take away experience points and possibly terminate your account all together.
That's definitely a good trade off. You don't watch the movie that gives you the points. You don't get any points. Fair.
If you are reading this and are ashamed of the behavior of these individuals you can help by going to the Portal, watching the under judgment entries, and casting your informed vote!
Being informed on the quality of the movie is much more powerful in deciding what vote you should cast.
The b/p point hoarders should read this because if they want points, then they need to know how to vote.
If you have done this in the past, or are doing this currently, you must stop NOW. We won't go back and punish previous offenders, we will only punish users who continue this behavior from this point forward!
The official Amnesty Day of NG. Thanks for bringing this matter up Wade.
I have seen numerous "test" flashes that fit certain criteria of a passing movie (large file-size, excellent graphics on the loading page, dramatic music that plays during the beginning of the movie), but in watching that said movie, the quality is non-existant. The movies pass because people vote blindly, and I'm glad you brought up the issue.
Thanks Wade.
But you'd have to consider this-
Whenver I'm on the portal, (which is often) I can immediatly recognize what will be good, and what will be bad. If I find a movie on the portal called "teh kewlness" with a 17 Kb filesize, I'm not even going to bother to watch it. I'll open it up, watch the first ten seconds, and when no pinnacle of animation pops up, I blam it. I agree with a few of the posters in here who say "if the movie is shit, blam it." But on the same token, when it's a game with a 17 Kb file size, I tend to play the whole thing. Why? Because if it's not a dressup, it's usually an Atari 2600 or TI-83 style game. Simple and fun. Problem is, when bad flashes come up, I don't want someone looking at my vote record, and saying "well he voted 50 consecutive zeroes, he must be cheating." It doesn't work like that. A lot of the time 50 absolute shit flashes will be submitted in a row. I'm just doing my duty. I support Wade and the administration in that they're trying to catch people who will vote regardless of the quality of the flash, but I don't want trouble because I didn't watch some DBZ stick figures blow eachother up.

Never assume. I have seen horrible flashes that are 5,000Kb and excellent ones that are only 10Kb. Unfortunately, you can never predict the quality of a flash until you have actually watched it.
If I find a movie on the portal called "teh kewlness" with a 17 Kb filesize, I'm not even going to bother to watch it.
If it is 17Kb, then why would it hurt you to watch it? Should be a short movie, which makes you come to your decision faster ;-)
I'll open it up, watch the first ten seconds, and when no pinnacle of animation pops up, I blam it.
But...you just said that you don't even watch it. Now you are saying that you watch part of it. Which is correct?
I agree with a few of the posters in here who say "if the movie is shit, blam it."
Yes...because they watched it, saw the lack of quality, and then blammed it.
Problem is, when bad flashes come up, I don't want someone looking at my vote record, and saying "well he voted 50 consecutive zeroes, he must be cheating."
I'm sure that they will look at what you voted on. That would only be fair. Then again...fifty consecutive zeroes is something that I would look at because when I am in the protal, I usually don't see 50 blammable submissions back-to-back.
It doesn't work like that. A lot of the time 50 absolute shit flashes will be submitted in a row. I'm just doing my duty. Seriously, how would you know if the movie was Dragon ball Z stick figures blowing up each other IF you don't watch it?
Wade, out of curiousity, is there any chance for error in this system of knocking off BLAMS and SAVES for users. Quite simply put, is it possible to screw up and erase BLAMS and SAVES who wasn't actually cutting?...
