Hey, may I join this club?
I'm very much into the earlier works of H.G. Wells, and I've also recently read a few things by George Orwell, which I've enjoyed immensly, I also quite like Aldous Huxley, and Keith Waterhouse, and E.M. Forster.
I'm mostly into science fiction, and other writing from the former part of the 20th century.
I'm currently reading Constance Briscoe's recently released book 'Ugly', which is about the abuse she suffered during childhood at the hands of her mother.

Dorian Gray? Isn't that in some way related to the film 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen'

The immortal.

Well, let me know how good it is. I'm struggling trying to dual - read with Rik Mayall - Bigger than Hitler, Better than Christ and The Bourne Identity, by Robert Ludlum. I may get some more time to read over Easter (4 days of Friday - Monday inclusive)

I couldn't sleep the other night when I was staying at my cousins house, so I picked a random book of their shelf and read - it was 'the great lone land', a book so utterly boring it did the job of getting me to sleep in just 5 pages. I couldn't even work out what it was about, some stuff about the political situation in europe at the turn of the century.
I also read a bit of an agatha christie book the next day out of boredom, and it wasn't to bad, not my favourite of books, but still.
Anyway, still reading 'Ugly', and I plan to read 'Homage to Catalonia' and 'Shooting an Elephant' by George Orwell in the near future.

Reading is one of the best things you can do if you are trying to get to sleep.

S&Box, the gameĀ Facepunch Studio have been working on.

It all depends on what you read. If you read Pratchett, it's a bad idea, because you'll laugh so much, you won't be able to sleep. Read something boring, like War and Peace and have a stiff drink, that will ahve you sorted in about 20 minutes.

I prefer a quick half hour in the morning before getting out of bed.

Not that I want to pour water on your bonfire, but I'd suggest that you diversify your taste a little. Granted, I have read every Discworld novel at least twice (with the exception of THUD!), but I did start reading the now 30 book series over 10 years ago.

I'm getting really intrigued with the Bourne Identity. Fascinating read, thanks for the reccomendation, MasterStalker

Welcome.

Personally, I think that we need to wean you off the Wheel of Time and Harry Potter, but that's just my opinion.

I really need to start reading properly again.

thanks. I think Ludlum just might be my favorite Author. I just read his "Tristan Batrayal" the other night(500+ pages in 36 hour... man do you have free time when you have no electricity) anyways, it just might be better the the Bourne Identity. Its not as cleverly thought out as Bourne, but it is pretty suspenseful.

So heres a quick run down on it... actually, I just sat here for like... half an our trying to make it sound interesting without giving out all the good stuff. I just cant do it. all I can say is, it's definitely worth more than I can say about it(in my opinion of course)

oh, and sorry to have been away for so long, but my phone and electric are shut off, so My time on a PC is extremely scarce anymore. I dont plan on returning again any time soon, though I'll certainly try . well, I'm off to find another note worthy book, ta ta for now.

Thanks for the reccomendation. I've just got a few books which I've read before but never really had the brain capacity to take them all in properly (I was revising for my GCSEs, so was very stressed because of it) The Saga of the Exiles by Julian May. She tells a good tale, but I remember very little. Just what I need

I guess I'll have to look into another ludlum book eventually. though I really should find a favorite auther thats still alive. I would never hurt to be able to express to them how great I think they are. Oh, I saw the original Bourne identity movie a few weeks ago, but I found it to be a bit boring. It was the same as the book through about 70% of the movie. Though, they really changed it up after about half way, and I was saying what they were on screne before they could say it since I already read it in the book. thats one reason it was boring, the other was that you couldnt tell how conflicted Bourne was or how he strategised because they were horible at expressing his inner thoughts.

wow, thats a longer post that I wanted. please respond quickly, I have to leave soon.

Most books do come before the film, but some books (Star Wars) try to cover that up, by releasing a new book, which taylors the book to the film script.

Lol...
Anyone know about when the Eragon movie is gonna come out? I really wanna see it. I heard that they made Arya (one of the characters) blond...and shes an elf...and not blonde... unless she is a Blood Elf in WoW then ok. I wonder how they are gonna make the dragon look and if they are gonna put #1 and #2 together....

IS there any Wheel of Time games or the website to one i would like the link if anyone can find it...

I've started reading a 'classic' I'm a big Sci-Fi fan and one of my friends decided to give me a loan of Intervention, by Julian May. It is about people with advanced minds, who can talk to each other telepathically, walk in the rain and stay perfectley dry, control their body temperature, all by simple thoughts.

I'll read this and Bourne Identity to conclusion at about the same time, giving me a mental brether I need for Bourne. It is very confusing.

Of course you can.

That's a good book. Not as good as Hitchhikers, but good nonetheless.

I just got it for $1 at the annual 24 hour used book sale so even if it isn't as good as Hitchhikers it can't be bad for the amount I paid. I will probably even go back to the booksale again either later on tonight on early tommorow morning before they finish.

The one thing about booksales if they're the ones I'm thinking about is that the books are usually second hand. The really good books are the ones which have been dog eared and have creases down the spine. I love to ahve new books in my collection, so I can keep them as neat as possible. I twitch every time someone bends a book backwards on it's spine, or dog ears a page to mark it.

There is a section at the booksale with books that are in really good or perfect condition. That is where I got this and the other novel I got. Yet all up it still cost me $3 so I think I got a good bargin.
