I never requested no overlap.

It was implied by your "I've got that covered already" comment. Besides, I was just JOKING because he seems more willing to tread upon Dogma and ramagi's territory than yours, perhaps simply because exp and b/p are more "main stats" of NG than reviews are, so I decided to make light of the situation, eh? #;-}>

I just made the point that I had reviews covered, as I'm using his program to go through NG anyway.

Yes, but I was just making the point that ramagi already had exp covered and Dogma already had b/p covered (and I already have VP covered, though he hasn't made a VP list) and etc. etc. etc. but that hasn't stopped him from making overlapping lists with theirs.

You see, the one thing he's providing that they are not is BEYOND the elite stats. IOW, for exp, he's providing the noobs below the top 500 a chance to see themselves on a ranked list. And for b/p, he's providing the noobs below the EG a chance to see themselves on a ranked list. And if he does a full VP list or takes my advice and just does the VP range between 5.00 and my top 500, he'll be providing the noobs below 7.00ish VP a chance to see themselves on a ranked list.

He could very easily have decided, way back when he first made the total exp and total b/p listings, to do a total review listing, and give the noobs (including me!) who aren't on your top 100 a chance to see themselves on a review listing. He could extend his list down to 1 review or 10 reviews if he wanted. It wouldn't be anywhere near as long as list of profiles as the >50 exp list he already maintains.

The truth of the matter is that you, me, ramagi, and Dogma have never had the stats we cover ENTIRELY covered, just the elite top side of them. Personally, I think that's all that's WORTH covering in a list because NG only celebrates the top 50 of the two main stats... and by expanding downward from there and to other stats, we could already be accussed of "watering stat eliteness down" somewhat... taking it even further than a top 100, top 500, or top 1000 can be seen as further watering it down. But wotevah. As long as the original listmakers' lists aren't rendered totally obsolete by SK's new full listings, I'm fine with them. Especially when they offer something different and/or don't cover everything the other lists cover (such as change since last time, rank change, or whatnot).

I've just finished writing the code for the weekly "estimated days until next rank-up" column for the upcoming b/p update. I'm running a test of the program right now. I'm still on track for a run tonight at midnight, and depending on if I'm still up when the program finishes, I'll either post at 2 or 3AM (Eastern), or in the morning.

Woopsy, I must be losing my mind. I thought that the Wednesday update is pulled at midnight, when it's the Sunday update that's pulled at midnight. Doh.

Anywho, I've updated the blam/protect lists. I've got that new "Est. Days Til Rank-Up" column, I made the profile links prettier, I tweaked the red color, and I shrank the page sizes a little bit. Enjoy!

Yeah, it's a neat little column. I was about to comment on how D0GMA beat both of them in bp's/hr, but I noticed that she can't rank up, anyway. So I put little infinity symbols for the Supreme Commanders, because they'll never rank up. ;-)

'You are a PHOENIX in your soul and your wings make a statement. Huge and born of flame, they burn with light and power and rebirth. Ashes fall from your wingtips. You are an amazingly strong person. You survive, even flourish in adversity and hardship. A firm believer in the phrase, 'Whatever doesn't kill you only makes you stronger,' you rarely fear failure. You know that any mistake you make will teach you more about yourself and allow you to 'rise from the ashes' as a still greater being. Because of this, you rarely make the same mistake twice, and are not among the most forgiving people. You're extremely powerful and wise, and are capable of fierce pride, passion, and anger. Perhaps you're this way because you were forced to survive a rough childhood. Or maybe you just have a strong grasp on reality and know that life is tough and the world is cruel, and it takes strength and independence to survive it. And independence is your strongest point - you may care for others, and even depend on them...but when it comes right down to it, the only one you need is yourself. Thus you trust your own intuition, and rely on a mind almost as brilliant as the fire of your wings to guide you.You are eternal and because you have a strong sense of who and what you are, no one can control your heart or mind, or even really influence your thinking. A symbol of rebirth and renewal, you tend to be a very spiritual person with a serious mind - never acting immature and harboring a superior disgust of those who do. Likewise, humanity's stupidity and tendency to want others to solve their problems for them frustrates you endlessly. Though you can be stubborn, outspoken, and haughty, I admire you greatly.'

Wow...

A hint OR NOT :o

Not really a hint, just data. I've said before that I spent 8 years working nightclubs and have had more than my share of it. It's short, vicious, stressed hours for a lot of pure cash. The pay keeps you from wanting to get out, and the hours make it difficult to even try.

The best and worst was when I was working for a gay nightclub that opened a club in another city as well. For those of you who think that's a hint and weren't around the last time I went over it: both sites had male and female employees and both the clientele and employees were a mix of straight, bi, and gay. Anywho, my work week started on Thursday when I opened at 8pm and we could usually get shut down by 2:30am. On Friday, I'd commute to hell (4am last call instead of the 2am to which I had become accustomed) for 90 minutes to open at 5pm for happy hour and close about 6am, then have to commute back for another 90 minutes. I finally gave up and started taking the bus ... at least I could catch some sleep that way. Saturday open at 8pm, close ~3:30am ... 2am last call and no one wants to leave on Saturday :-P~~~ Sunday open 7pm, close 3am. Around Wednesday I'd start to feel human again and it would be just in time for it to start over.

It was rare for me to finish the week having earned less than $1,200 in *cough*untaxed*cough* cash and even rarer for me to have more than $200 to my name when I started again on Thursday. Show me another (legal) job at which you can make $40+/hour where the only job requirements are a good memory and the ability to be courteous and pleasant. Ask any female over 40 for ID = $5 bonus tip =)

I occasionally enjoy going out these days, but it's usually only for a couple hours or so ... unless I'm headed to a rave ^^ It's like that joke about how the sure cure for a Big Mac attack is to work at McDonald's for a year. Spend enough time behind the bar and you end up with a huge list of the things you've seen drunks do that you never, ever want anyone attributing to you.

At 9/9/04 05:02 PM, ShittyKitty wrote:

Yes I do, but I'm not entirely clear why I find it so amusing. It began for very simple, straightforward reasons and has turned into this game that occasionally gets played. Eventually I'll find some time and analyze it out ... I won't stop grinning everytime this comes up, but I'll at least understand why I do lol

Psh. As if it's my fault. ;-) Besides, the second b/p mirror still works. It's just the exp list that's completely screwed.

Speaking of which, I've done a "quick fix": I created a temporary account at a new provider, and uploaded both lists onto it. It should last until I get a more permanent solution, but the experience list's "full list" doesn't work (it's too big: 4MB). Errrr.......well, at least it's actually working now.

Heh, then you are all too familiar with that concept ^^

I want a new job though.. but if you're a bartender.. you must be a female. Places like that only hire females.

It depends. If you're talking about your average neighborhood pub, chances are you won't end up behind the bar no matter what your gender. At mid-sized clubs and larger with owners that understand business will hire anyone with a modicum of skill ... their goal is to fill stations with different types of people so that all their clients can find the type of bartender they want. Want a short blond female? Station 3. Tall muscular male? Station 6. "average" sized male? Station 1 ... ad infinitum

Bar generalization 2: Gay men drink like fish and tip like it's going out of style. The context is extremely different between a gay nightclub and a gay bar, so make sure you know what you are getting into before you go that route.

That happens to me periodically. Keep an eye on your bandwidth usage just in case that's the issue.

I've worked as a bartender in nightclubs in three countries.

I'll tell you one thing from that statement at least, it WAS unexpected :(

If you'd read through Toocool "investigation" thread you'd have seen it there (I think). Before then, I'd occasionally mentioned working in clubs as long as I have, working three countries, gay and straight clubs, etc, but I think that was really the first time I put it all the information in one place.

I must comment that those are some awesome working hours, for someone who has a 26 hour body clock at least

The hours suck if you are trying to get out and get a day job.

So wait, you AREN'T supposed to sleep in cars, oops :D

Not when you're driving ^^

So wait, that seems to me that it is not all that much, why go through all of that, were you paying for college or something at that time?

The problem is that it's all cash money and your hours are such that even being awake when a bank is open is an effort ... it slips through your fingers like water through a seive. Some people don't do windows, dust, whatever ... my hitch is on doing dishes. I spent all that time washing glassware, damned if I wanted to go home and do it too ... so you eat out a LOT, like every meal.

After a while I finally noticed I was spending everything I was making with basically nothing to show for it and started buying CDs (the bank kind) and set them all to mature at the same time. When they'd finish up, I'd take it all out and go visit a broker to buy stocks ... this was way back before on-line brokerages and it was really expensive to deal with a house ... like $50/100 sh expensive. You learn quickly not to walk in with $10k in cash. 4 hours of filling out "I'm not a drug dealer" paperwork each time you do it is enough to make it stick.

Ask any female over 40 for ID = $5 bonus tip =)
Random it seems to me, is it though?

Nope, just one of the "tricks" to increase your take for the night.

Sorry if i'm just SO VERY "unhip" but what do you mean by rave, you whippersnapper?

Old rave: Find out a location for a party from a flyer. Go to the location and at that corner there's someone standing there handing out maps to where the real party is ... usually an abandoned warehouse. Clubs let out ~2am, rave's been happening since midnight and goes until there's ~100 people left or the DJs are packed up, whichever comes first. Cover is $10-20 to pay the DJs, rent for the generator, and any fines that happen. They'll actually make a little money on it by setting up a minibar on the side with kegs and some basic liquors and mixers and sell CUPS for $3. It's illegal to sell liquor without a license, particularly to minors, so you sell them a cup everytime they come up to the minibar. Semantics, I know, but it gives you a head start against the charges if you get busted.

New rave: Nightclub advertises a rave they are hosting which starts whenever they usually open and ends whenever they usually close (sometimes an hour or two later). Occasionally they'll have more than 3 DJs. Due to the fact that most ravers are minors, or are at least doing enough drugs that they don't drink, the club owners make their money on the night by having exhorbitant covers ($25-75) plus whatever they are charging for drinks.

The best club rave I've been to in the last 10 years was in Ithaca at an ex-nightclub. Whoever had owned it had shut the club down and, before they tore out the fixtures, it was rented out for a rave by some organizers. $10 cover and the only thing the "bartenders" were selling was bottled and tap water. I got there at ~10 and left around 5.

Heh yah my friend told me about that said at the MD's he worked for, he was so repulsed that he had to quite after two weeks, from that day on, i promised myself to NEVER work there :)

I, too, once said, "would you like fries with that?"
