Nintendo games are overrated and anything after 2018 is kinda just shit outside of Metroid Dread and TOFK which arent even that good to begin with, they are good games but not top 10 if not even top 20 material

BOTW is a technical marvel of how much empty space you can put in a game before it reaches sub 20fps.

It's hard for me to think of any that I haven't said a million times that also don't just give "popular thing bad" vibes... So if you've seen some of these takes on rerun, just give yourself a cookie or something.

  • Super Mario Bros 3, Mario 64, Zelda OoT/MM, any NES Megaman game, DOOM, and Pokemon RGBY are games I feel like people only namedrop to feel included in retro games discussion
  • Those Switch 2 game key cards are actually a really cool idea. We had PS3 discs that didn't have the entire game on them and they looked the exact same as games that did. If you're the kind of physical media enthusiast who wants their discs to have everything on them at day 1, hopefully now it should be a little easier to know which games to avoid.
  • I don't hate the Switch digital game sharing thing either. It could be waaay better but as a PS Vita owner, the peeps who are raging about what we're getting, do NOT know how worse things could be.
  • I couldn't care less how many video games you own. I don't care if it's digital, if it's physical, if they've been individually graded... how many of them have you actually played to completion?
  • We need less voice acting in video games
  • That whole "I want games with worse graphics made by people who are paid more to work less" motto is the second-worst thing to plague video game discourse in years.
  • That Devil May Cry Netflix adaptation was fine. If I wanted a 1:1 adaptation of the game I'd just replay the games
  • Mobile gaming is completely valid. It's not my cup of tea but it still counts. We're not in java snake era anymore and companies are putting out some really impressive games on phones I can't deny.

Fuck you give me money!

(thanks for the years of Lulu/Payne r34 my loyal dealers)

Rockstar's open world games have dogshit mechanics cramming in linear games on a pure facade of a backdrop and never the twain shall meet.

This kind of game design was fine in the PS2 era where games were clunky and all about experimentation, but it was completely outdated by GTA IV. People complained of lack of things to do, but for me, all the things "offered" in the GTA games are essentially a pause button for the damn purpose of the open world for extremely restrictive authoritarian level design that discourages free thinking, improvisation, and naturalistic play.

The last good GTA game was 4 and the liked the arcadey style gameplay that was GTA III and I hated how they got realistic in V and now 6

HARD agree!

I've been saying this for years. If a game has voice acting I'm way less likely to play it.

Most RPG’s are bad, the switch is VERY overrated, fnaf was never good it was mediocre and just got worse, and the world of fallout (both of them) are not very interesting.

  • Most JRPG's and racing games are boring.
  • The Last of Us was never that good.
  • Halo died in Reach.
  • God of War died in Ascension.
  • The new tomb raider trilogy is shit.

The Gamecube have good games, but its so overrated !

  • the controller is awfull, a little bit better than the N64 one but still
  • Smash Melee is so average, controls even with another controller, are soooo bad
  • Sunshine is bad, music and ambiance is awesome but controls are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BAD
  • "yeah mario party 6 best mario party ever" uhhhh really? play Mario Party DS instead

hopfully there are awesome game (double dash, wind waker, starfox adventure, animal crossing) so its a good console... on emulator with a Xbox Series S controller XD

i'm just tired that people says its the best console ever when its just a personal choise, not the truth XD

i'm gonna get soooooooo hated for that take lmfao plz dont hurt me

Turn based rpg's are visual novels with rng and inventory/equipment reading...

Og Xcom is a good board game tho. I think the only good things about turn based rpgs are graphics duu and removing the hassle for rule books and interaction. Still, real time is way cooler. In the grand scheme of gaming, turned based rpgs are preached in high reguard too often. Bonk and heal, booooaring!

Impressive for the ps3 indeed, but I've seen better pulled off on more limited hardware. I think the success of the game comes from mass appeal and the reputation of naughty dog.

The game got too much hype because "hurr durr muh deep story", because it was from Naughty Dog and because its graphics were amazing for its time.

Thankfully most people opened their eyes after part 2 released. Gameplay-wise the first TLOU was okay and I heard the multiplayer was fun too (I never played it), but the story and general experience were way too overrated. If TLOU was made by Microsoft or Ubisoft it wouldn't have been as praised as it was when it came out.

It was a game that actually wanted to be a movie instead. That's why there were plenty of games that did the same as TLOU but better.

I don't get videogame stories being as valued or held to a high standard compared to the actual gameplay, y'know the most unique thing a game has to offer as a medium.

Nothing wrong with wanting a good story but bruh, I be scratching my head when people be making lore or story critique videos about somethin like fighting games.

Also I don't like long games in general but we're at a point where games cost $90 so screw it. Bloat and then drag that carcass as far as you can.

DmC: Devil May Cry is SO MUCH BETTER than both DMC4 and 1. I don't care that story is poorly written and ridiculous, I would rather take that over half of 4's levels being the same thing but reverse, and 1's poorly aged mechanics and retrospectively limited combat.

I have a few that feel like "Old man yells at cloud"

Mortal Kombat sucks, the novelty of the gory kills is completely gone as now I can play even gorier games now, the story is the most "White dude directs a Kung fu movie" thing ever and the mechanics are just "meh" compared to stuff like Street Fighter, Tekken, Under Night, Blazblue or Guilty Gear. Even Smash Bros has something way more interesting going on despite its simplicity.

I don't like Sandbox/Survival games, I prefer a more linear experience than having the tools to make my own fun, it's like going to those Korean Restaurants where they give you the meat cuts and you cook them, serve me them cooked, dude. I already had a hard day.

There's not an objectively good "Battle Pass", some might be free and included in the game you already purchased, but they all are paid with your precious time, and I'm no longer a 17 year old, dude. My time in this world is limited.

Speaking of Battle passes, I think no one would complain nowadays if Star Wars Battlefront, Overwatch Lootboxes and the Horse Armor released today considering how people eat up everything Fortnite gives them. That game is just a digital doll's house with the most okay multiplayer game ever.

Instruction Booklets were a cool novelty when developers couldn't include tutorials in their games, but now that they do, they are kind of pointless and I feel people are just nostalgic for them, but at the same time, I don't like that now companies treat them as this cool collector novelty, that just sucks even harder than not including them.

I can forgive retro Final Fantasy games for their mistakes as more often than not they feel like technological limitations of the time, but mistakes in modern FF games feel more like a directorial issue.

Graphics did matter back in the 80's and 90's, and I'm tired people pretend they didn't. You think people didn't see System Shock 2, Deus ex, Half Life 1, Final Fantasy IX, Chrono Cross and were all like "Oh yeah, this is a 3D game!"

Wario Ware is probably the ugliest Gameboy game ever, people might think that's the point of it, but no, outside of the quirky looking microgames, there's a lot of inconsistency between models, and animations that just look jarring, and I just can't believe that is in the same console that has games like TLOZ: Minish Cap, Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga and even Fire Emblem with its smooth as fuck battle animations, even Wario Land 4 looks better and it released a year before.

WHEEL OF FORTUNE IN BALATRO WORKS, GOT A RUN WHERE I GOT IT WORKING 3 TIMES, YOU GUYS JUST SUCK AT GAMBLING 😎😎😎

Tits dude

Mario Kart 8 was never peak, as in either the WiiU version at launch, after DLCs, or the Switch version before and after the BCP, hell, I think the BCP was a slap in the face

Yeah, it's a good damn, but don't lie that its got its many flaws, you can't say "oh they never making a better game than this" when the game's physics are hella janky from times to times, and most definitively when most of the characters look alike!! (Baby Rosalina, Pink Gold Peach, every Koopaling- well I can't say I hated them day 1, but in the aftermath they do hurt the roster)

Pricing stuff aside, I'm so glad Nintendo's actually making an actual great Mario Kart game now, I sure as hell will never boot up Mario Kart 8 again lol

Some of the most hated games of all time like Devil May Cry 2 and Dino Crisis 3 are actually unique and cool in their own ways. It's way too easy to hate on em but of the Dino Crises I played, 3 is the one I got furthest in and would like to beat it one day.....

Hollow Knight is painfully mid-tier.

Its like an amalgamation of castlevania, soulslike, meat boy, cuphead, etc.

but... Its not as good as castlevania... its not as good as other soulslikes, its not as good as meatboy, and its not as good as cuphead...

Instead of choosing to be one game and doing it well, it tried to be 'okay' at several things... making just an 'okay' game experience.

Mario Kart Wii in general is nothing special besides that it added bikes, the game is very unpleasing to look at with it's copious amount of bloom and oiled up looking models, the RNG and rubber banding is one of the worst in the series too, still better than entries before Double Dash though.

I'd take a weaker PC handheld if it meant not being bigger than my perfectly sculptured ass, it's not like I'd want to play anything big like AAA games to begin with, let alone playing a shooter game on a small device and screen.

I'd also take a smaller Switch 2 even if it meant I couldn't use 4k or 120fps modes.

A jail broken Switch 2 honest to god would be one of the best handhelds of all time, if it can run gamecube, then it should run Wii, Switch 1 ran 3DS fine outside of input lag, Wii U already has most of it's games on Switch 1, you could play the entire Nintendo library on Switch 2, on top of all the games on Switch 1 that ran like shit, with fan patches to run and look better on Switch 2.

The excuse people made that Mario Galaxy 2 isnt in 3D All Stars because it's heavily motion pointer based is fucking dumb, the Switch's gyro may not be as great as a Wiimote's IR sensor, but that doesn't mean you'd have a vastly worse experience.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is amazing, but I feel like it could have benefited more with a traditional "behind the back" camera, just take a look at the crazy backgrounds in older Kirby games, they cant be used in a 3D level to their full potential with a top down perspective.

Banjo and Kazooie is super slow and clunky, and stuffed with tutorials, I dont get the appeal outside of the charming characters

As great as indie games can be, people glaze them to hell and back all because they're indie.

---Bitching session commence---

Dinosaur Planet is lame from an outsider's perspective, so this game about dinosaurs, is actually about someone's lame blue deviantart OC and not the cool dinosuars.

On the topic of reptiles, most games with the term: "Dragon" in it usually have nothing to do with dragons, and that's fucking lame

Spyro the Dragon to my knowledge is the only reptile video game protagonist that isn't designed to be cute or super goofy.

Most media with Dragons in general always have to shoehorn in humans or other human-like creatures.

Most games with cool monsters are bland, you either kill them, kill each other as them, or catch them as some white boy who uses them to fight other monsters.

I want to play as the cool monsters and do things other than ripping people's throats out

Media in general are stingy about cool monsters outside of a overly cute light, especially reptiles, breaks my heart.

2000s games was the peak of gaming imo not because they where edgy, but because through that edge, they had more life than: "ooogh we're BAD and BAD things are happening!!!!" or "YAYYY SUNSHINE AND RAINBOWS"

Spent like three hours on this, fuck it I'm sending it

Mario Wonder and Sonic Superstars should’ve had the ideas on them swapped

the only reason Mario wonder was considered better was because they were sticking to the same formula, and the only time they tried something new was in something separated from most of the level

meanwhile, sonic superstars was trying to do something new while Nintendo just pulled out the crowd pleaser.

Also, Sonic games are far less generic compared to Mario. They made him a doctor!

I think the pokemon Johto games are extremely overrated. When people talk about what they love about the games, they tend to bring up only two things, it has Kanto and it has the Red battle. But they never look at the bad decisions the games do like having a good handful of the Johto pokemon locked behind post game, Tyranitar, Houndoom, Misdreavus, the Metal coat to get a Scizor or a Steelix, most evolution stones, all post game. The atrocious level curve in the game making it difficult to grind levels out for the late game. Fun fact, did you know that Typholison's base stats are literally the same as Charizards, all they was copy/paste the stats. No safari zone, the bug catching contest that lets you get legit good stuff like Pinsir and Scyther is limited to like one or two days a week, and even a good chunk of the Johto pokemon just kinda suck. Most of them only get good until Gen 4 with their new evolutions, but if it's basic gen 2, you're stuck with what you got. Gen 2 isn't a bad game but it shouldn't be as highly praised as it is.

My hot take: The Last of Us is a garbage 2010s zombie fad game. I'm tired of Sony pushing it as their biggest masterpiece and re-releasing it constantly. It belongs in the past. The sequel sucks mondo balls, too. MAIN CHARACTER DEAD, CRY NOW. DUHHH EMOTION HURRR REVENGE BAD RORORROR WE ARE SUCH GOOD WRITERS.

I feel like people are finally catching on to this. Johto is just Kanto 1.5 in that it has mostly Kanto Pokemon with a balance patch. It was stupid for them to lock so many new Pokemon behind the Elite Four. So many of them would have benefitted from being available early. What joy are you going to get from raising Larvitar post-game? Where the fuck is Murkrow? And so few of the new Pokemon are used in places where they would make sense. Why are so many of the Johto gym leaders stuck using Kanto Pokemon?

By today's standards, Johto is a poorly-balanced region carried by a good layout and aesthetic. Gameplay-wise, it's a joke. It trickles the new, good content in so slowly that you starve waiting for something interesting to happen. It was special when it was new because it was the first time we got a truly polished Pokemon game, but it has not aged well at all.
