Let's chat about 'em!

I LOVE ALIENS!!! (Also if anyone has any recommendations for shows/comics that have aliens please do share!!!)

I remember watching Avatar as a kid and becoming entranced with aliens. All my ocs in middle school were aliens and I adored making them freaks. I then got into Star Wars and enjoyed that genre of sci-fi, along with others such as predator, alien, all tomorrows, venom and others.

as for what type of aliens I like I can definitely say avatar impacted me a lot and I really appreciate a good old freak of nature. Just something absolutely not human. I can definitely appreciate a good old fashioned green alien or the Star Wars “stick a funny tentacle on its head” type alien but at my core I just want to see how out of this world people can get with a design, be it ugly or beautiful.

Mass Effect did a great job at making you care for creatures of outer space..
Also, the fact if an human goes to another planet make Them the Aliens,
and this script rarely was touched on.

Like, Avatar (Blue people with tails) did it right.
But the sequel kinda missed the mark..

Anyway.

Rick and Morty did few things right.. And wrong of course. But I like when
the theme of outer space creatures are not just stereotypes or
re-hatched ideas.

I wish we had variety in the mix, like a more emotional connection to the worlds out there.
Even if I know we are too likely to never see a second sentient race that can build
shit to a higher degree than us.

I think avatar is one of my favorite media about aliens. Just the idea of humans being the more technologically advanced and aggressive species was a nice change of pace from the usual alien media, which either had everything flying space ships or every alien was a monster.

i also really appreciate it fully diving into making the planet feel alien too. Every creature design is wonderful, my personal favorite is the thanator. Killer design. The plants I’m I bit more eh on in terms of being alien but i think there is a good amount of alien plants. I don’t always get to see the environment of alien planets be alien so I appreciate it in avatar.

Also I do agree with wanting more variety in aliens. I want there to be more freaks, more diversity in bodies, more difference in culture, technology, everything. A lot of aliens are basically humans but another color with some things glued on. I want to see more races that are far beyond our comprehension. I think more bug or crustaceans or molusks would be very interesting. Centaur like bodies could be fun. Heck I think transformers are a great example, alien robots!!! Just more non human things please.

As for my art, I mostly draw Star Wars stuff so I am required to love aliens! I like all kinds really but I mostly stick to the cute photogenic ones in my work, which means they mostly look like humans with a different colour palette lol. And a lot of the time I end up drawing characters in helmets anyway so you usually don't even get to see those colours.

I hope to see the concept of being separated from life form. Do not make extra terrestrials related to life (Genetic based sentence). Make them look and function without resembling humanoid or animal. I thought of one set of beings that are stone oblisks with levitating satellites that serve the purpose of communication, combat, and craft. One could be covered in parasites to get life related threats sick, one could hold a furnace to refine metals for enhancements to self. Not exactly robot or life, just a being.

Just a reminder that if you like aliens you can support Newgrounds own Harry Partridge and get a copy of STARBARIAN TALES to read!

There's also the Starbarian cartoons here on Newgrounds :3

(look at these cool aliens!!)

I like alien characters. I love the variety that can come from it. Non humanoid are the most interesting, but humanoids are probably more relatable.

I think it's pretty unlikely that we are alone in the universe. But idk about being advanced, or meeting. We found bacteria I believe, so technically a life on another planet confimed.

This is my alien oc :)

Kinda creepy, kinda cute was what I went for

I like kinda creepy and kinda cute too. Just enough humanoid features, but then go put some spice on that. I like fangs a lot! I like how you've made her kinda insect like.

I have my own aliens, Paradise being the main one. She’s a Katalkan, living space armor. Her kind were created by the Katal to be the ultimate weapon and now live on Katalkanavame.

She normally looks like this:

But she can also turn into a goo monster:

Which is how she becomes armor for her agent boyfriend, Grey Rose:

She also can look like a human (though she does slip up 😅):

Though I am developing a game that includes alien species. Quite a few have been conceptualized, but no concept art.

On second thought. I just remembered I did have concept art. Though only two of them are of alien species.

I'm not gonna dive into what the game's about just yet, but these are important characters within the Mystopian universe.

In my view, aliens should be alien, otherly and incomprehensible, or eldritch. Anime characters with blue skin? Meh... Rattlecan and a desperate stripper can fill that fantasy any day of the week... Give me some of that impossible biology and geometry beyond human understanding.

Don't need to be from outer space to be a weirdo, I suppose... haha.

Ooh, got some examples of what you think aliens should look like? I'd be interested in that impossible biology. 😄 Do you think there are alien species already here?

I don't think about it too much, so I don't really have many good examples on hand, but the most immediately classic one would probably be the creature from The Thing, as something intensely hostile to other lifeforms. A lot of older body horror does similar things. Some of the Lovecraftian mythos stuff maybe with things from between dimensions, or even just smaller deep sea predators can be pretty freaky examples.

If there are aliens in the sense of a biological lifeform not evolved on earth, they're doing a decent job at hiding. I'd be hiding too if I saw what people were like before coming here, ick.

However, the huge problem is that i really don't know what to do with her. Been thinking of redesign it into a human or robot, cuz' yeah, i don't know what i could do with aliens lol

I like aliens. I like how you can take some artistic license with them e.g. taking Earthly things and making them a bit... off.

ETA this alien I drew for a collab last November.

No. If you're familiar with basic evolutionary theory, then it should be obvious as to why.

Any species capable of interstellar travel would be sufficiently advanced so as to regard us humans as a bunch of primitive organisms. For all of our vaunted technology, consider that the furthest we've sent robots is to Mars. We haven't sent ourselves anywhere beyond the Moon. And we still can't survive without a constant supply of food, water & air...also if the immediate environment is too hot or cold. We're sort of like Goldilocks: everything has to be just right.

Now consider the history of life on this planet, particularly vis-a-vis extinctions since about 12,000 years ago & what happens when a "weed species" is brought to a new place by humans...

What do you think would most likely occur if a planet-hopping alien race--which may well have mastered quantum physics & ultra-advanced science in general--were to find Earth & see us for the first time?

I almost feel the bipedal stance with graspers is the answer towards building a huge society. There are lots of intelligent animals out there, but we're winning mostly because of these hands. Dogs and parrots are quite smart and can use their mouths, but that's so awkward in comparison. Bipedalism and thumbs ftw!

Btw, I'm doing a stream on aliens tonight (4/3). Check my newsbox for info.

On Earth, yes. But only on Earth. On non-Earth environments, i.e. the rest of the universe, the entire meta changes. The universe is a big big big place. Bipedalism and brainpower won't work on Xivox-2 where the non-carbon supporting biosphere lives in its liquid ocean or on HD 85512 where you need to produce sulfur to not get instantly sublimated.

Ah, so you believe there are non-carbon beings. I do want to believe that theory. I mean, life is crazy to begin with! Silicon based beings would be interesting to find. Though, are we creating them now? Maybe!

Have you heard of radiolaria?

Depends if they're like Britain pre-American Revolution or Britain post-American Revolution. One means "lol, you all getting killed, our forests now" and the other means "Ooh, we must preserve some of this neat culture! But also, our forests now". Let's hope they're the type who's just wanting to expand and not desperate for some new land for the burgeoning population.

Yup, while they do have silicon skeletons, they are still carbon-based. If their code, DNA, was silicon-based, well, we got some aliens on the planet!
