WHAT’S THIS?

To celebrate the long-awaited release of my experimental and emotional album, inevitable, inescapable, I am hosting my second ever REMIX CONTEST!!

It will be quite similar to my first, but with slightly different rules, slightly adjusted criteria points, and an IMPORTANT TWIST!!

RULES

1. The deadline for your submissions will be pretty flexible, but I’m not going to wait forever for everyone to create their tracks. We’ll aim for May 1 of this year, and if additional time is needed then the date will be adjusted accordingly.
2. If you are interested in participating, post to this thread which song you will be remixing. Once you have posted, you cannot change your decision. Further explanation for this in the important twist.
3. To submit a track, simply post its NG link it to this thread.
4. Collabs are allowed, but optional. Same story for samples.
5. If you have a question about the melody or chords of the original song, feel free to PM me and I would be happy to help. I know I put some weird chords in there, and having a good ear alone might not be enough…

CRITERIA:

Creativity - 30 points

Remixes are just the use of a given song as a canvas for your own ideas— the clay that you’ll mold into your work of art. So take my ideas and put your own spin on them, show me your style! Just make sure it is still relevant to the original track, and not a completely different song.

Technical Soundness - 24 points

Balance, EQ, mixing, mastering, you name it.

Atmosphere - 22 points

Since the album has a really big focus on atmosphere, I think the atmospheric quality of your remixes are a bit higher of a priority than last time!

Instrumentation - 16 points

Have you added some new sound design to elevate the mood you’re going for? Do all of the sounds you’re using fit together to create this mood? All of that and more in this category.

Overall - 8 points

My overall thoughts on the song, and how all of the elements present in the song combine. In short, if its more than the sum of its parts.

THE IMPORTANT TWIST IN QUESTION:

Firstly, only songs on the new album are eligible for remixing! Once a participant has selected their track of choice to remix, that song is OUT. You cannot remix a song that someone else is already remixing! This is why it’s important that you post which song you are choosing to remix in this thread— it dictates which tracks are available to other participants.

Songs will be chosen on a first come, first serve basis. If you really want to try a specific track, say something quick!

*If you choose a song but then have to drop out for whatever reason, please say so on this thread so I can let other participants know that the song you originally chose is open again for use.

FINAL REMINDERS:

To wrap up this post, remember: the target deadline is May 1st, but I might adjust if a few contestants need more time. Post your song choice when you want to participate. I will announce the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners when all is said and done.

Last thing I want to say is, don’t be afraid to pick a song that’s maybe more on the experimental side— I would think there’s just a lot more room for originality with those!

I'm interested in remixing the track "dissociate" if that is possible

Just gave the album a listen on spotify, great stuff! Interested in remixing "close my eyes" since I'm in the mood for 140-150 bpm type music. If I don't get any good ideas in a few days though I'll give it up to someone else

One more thing: Is my remix allowed to use stems or samples off the original?

IK Waterflame provided stems for his remix contest.

Also length requirments. How long or short should it be relative to the original, which is 7 minutes?

I can PM you the vocal stems, and you can also sample the original as much as you want. There is no length requirement— inevitable is pretty long, so I say, whatever duration you would feel comfortable writing. If that’s 3 minutes, great! If that’s the full 7, or even 8, that’s great as well. Hope this helps!

I'd like to remix "to be left alone", its chord progressions would be very interesting to remix.
