actually im gonna rewrite this bc i didnt word it v well
"clean goth" is basically a fashion style thats just ... typical clean girl aesthetic but black. like, the type of girl that has a million stanley cups and spends all her time in the skincare section of sephora. most goths hate them because the aesthetic is very consumerist and trendy which goes against a lot of goth ideals. not to mention that goth is a music subculture and most "clean goths" dont listen to goth music (you can wear gothic fashion w/o being goth and vice versa, but "clean goth" really isnt even gothic fashion either)
it was honestly really eye opening to find out goth is a music subculture
The amount of arguing that seems to happen online with the label of goth is ridiculous. Heres the only questions you need to ask:
Does the person like goth music and listen to it often?
If yes, they are a goth.
The fashion element is more so a way to attract like minded people, and should be treated as a seperate sphere when discussing goth.
thats basically what im saying lol. (i actually think the word "poser" has all but lost its meaning..) that said, im gonna criticize anyone for being super consumerist bc im just personally against it lol. im not even goth i just hate ppl who buy 500 dollars worth of shein clothes every week
I watched a video the other day about how alt fashion got popular in the 2020s with the rise of the e-kid style and then that provided the perfect opportunity for Shein, Romwe, and other fast fashion brands to start marketing to these young people on TikTok who often don’t know better/don’t care as long as they get their “aesthetic”.
They also brought up that the original alt fashion movement involved a lot of DIY clothing and it’s almost becoming a lost art because of stuff like this.
By the way, bump. (I hope OP will do more of the requests, or at least the serious ones.)
