What’s something you think every game has to have in order to be a good game? (Joke answers only.)
I’ll start - every game should have a leveling system! Doesn’t matter what genre it is or whether you even tie anything meaningful to it! If it keeps people playing with the promise of unlockable cosmetics (that can also be unlocked via watching an ad) and a bigger number, it’s a must!

a hidden hold to restart button that sends you to the start of the game. preferably hidden in a button they always use like jump
never tell the player about it. let it be a funny little surprise they find in final level :)

If memory serve me well, the game call Styx already do this. Everytime you die your character ask to change the difficulty or to stop playing with your feet etc...

Art is the most important thing in games that help them stand out. Minecraft would just be another wanna be retro game, but it is not limited to textures. It is art alone for the floting trees, infinite water, and scary cave noises. Pacman is not just a yellow dot, he goes waka waka with whatever the sound could accomplish. Portal would not be complete without the menu to set the tone. The recognition the ideas videogames bring to an audience alone, is enough to call it art, in the sense that it inspires and can be experienced in no other way.

Might just be my inner-audiophile talkin' but definitely crispy glorious 8-way directional audio that plays wet diarrhea sounds as ambience, as well as a pop-up to remind you to take a break every 5 minutes would be good

I remember there was something similar to that in Battleblock Theater, where you just hold a button to blow yourself up and go to your last checkpoint.
