A level editor, mod support, have the game on all platforms (if that's possible), and the game itself being open-source to study. (I'm typing about the games that don't have those features originally.) There could be more that I missed.

plusing this as long as the pop-up doesn't pause the game. if you get killed by an enemy you couldn't dodge because of the pop up it is a you problem

Running? Sprinting? That's too dangerous! Imagine if you fall irl!
It's nice the devs think of us and just don't offer any way to navigate faster :D

A serious answer that is.
Edit: Oh I didn't read the first sentence, only the title of this thread. :o
Oh, I've got one! Dangerous flashing for scene transitions. Who cares if players get hurt and can't play any further, amiright?

Art is the most important thing in games that help them stand out. Minecraft would just be another wanna be retro game, but it is not limited to textures. It is art alone for the floting trees, infinite water, and scary cave noises. Pacman is not just a yellow dot, he goes waka waka with whatever the sound could accomplish. Portal would not be complete without the menu to set the tone. The recognition the ideas videogames bring to an audience alone, is enough to call it art, in the sense that it inspires and can be experienced in no other way.
Nah, games don’t need art. Just do another text-based RPG!

Okay, let me put it through your skull: This thread is asking for joke answers. Get into the habit of reading the first post of a thread instead of just the title.

Tacked on multiplayer. Like how it was in the late 2000s/early 2010s.

Every game must have mother detector! "Mother detected, enable npc obscenities!" "No no stop game!"

When mother is detected, the game switches genres from precision platformer to hentai dating sim.

Reminds me of a question ask by a developer of game not having usual aspects.
Skip button/option: if we know what we are doing than cut to the game or to a certain part because there was a long delay.

That’s a genuinely good answer, if the question were genuine. I hate it when I have to go through an intro cutscene multiple times and don’t have a skip button. But no, this is a “wrong answers only” thread.

A ranking system! (depending on the genre)

I’ll start - every game should have a leveling system! Doesn’t matter what genre it is or whether you even tie anything meaningful to it! If it keeps people playing with the promise of unlockable cosmetics (that can also be unlocked via watching an ad) and a bigger number, it’s a must!
A weed smoking mechanic. I'm being so serious every game needs a weed smoking mechanic. I really hope the friday night funkin devs add a weed smoking mechanic for the next update
