I'm so hype for Nintendo Switch 2 I need to buy it

It looks like how I'd imagine it look, it's just a sleeker and updated version of the original Switch. It's alright I guess. I'm not sure what people mean about the mouse thing though.

Not really the same thing dedede gets a new redesign in every Kirby game Donkey Kong has had the same design for a really long time

Ashkually, Dedede had the same design from Kirby's Air Ride, to Nightmare in Dreamland, to Super Star Ultra, to Return to Dream Land.

He had the same design all throughout the 2000s.

This is gonna be a prediction of mine: the Switch 2 is not gonna sell very well. Nothing screams “MUST HAVE” about it especially for the casual market: it’s just an upgraded Switch similar to how the Wii U is upgraded Wii. And I’m being generous here, even the Wii U had quirks that helped drew attention to it.

P.S: I don’t care for DK’s new design. It’s basically SMB-Movie DK, and that DK didn’t leave much of a good first impression: i.e he was voiced by Seth Rogan, and Seth Rogan only portrayed DK as just Seth Rogan. Grant Kirkhope will forever be the best DK next to the two guys who voiced DK in the DKC animated series.

Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo New 3DS.

Plus there's way too many people on this planet that already buys whatever new garbage Sony or Apple makes despite being tripled the price of what Nintendo makes.

I will be surprised if the Switch 2 does fail.

If the ps5 and it's over priced hardware and no games sold like crazy, then I'm sure Switch 2 will sell as well.

Although the Switch 1 itself already is owned by everyone and their grandmother, so who knows.

Also kind of dislike that only "select" games are backwards compatible, but at least first party games would most likely be supported since that's the only reason to play on Nintendo systems.

I love the way the new Mario Kart looks though,

I'm kind of on the fence about how it seems an inch or two bigger...
I always wanted the Switch to be smaller, but at least people with larger hands have a more comfy handheld.

I'm just hoping the interface isn't as soulless, bleak and clunky as the Switch 1 was, let me organize my games on a grid! Give us folders again too!
The animation was sleek af though.

All in all, it was very ehh, they could have shown more than like 5 seconds of a new Mario Kart, and only the Console's design, but I blame the leakers for this since EVERYONE has to have clout or some shit, as they where going fucking bananas the past month like chill tf out.

I know I'm nitpicking, but I really only care for a new console for the games, and improvements, which neither was really shown (besides a new Mario Kart, which looks AMAZING).
Magnetic Joycons... good god, those better be some strong magnets.

Yeah, I am not sure if I will get it if that's the case, but if at least ALL the games I have are compatible then I will get it.

First, I'd just like to say that the release year caught me off by surprise. But possible new hardware and graphical improvements aside, I'm just gonna copy what Vinny said and say that I hope the launch titles for the Switch 2 are going to have more variety to get more people's interest. I know that there have been games announced like Mario Kart 9, Metroid Prime 4, and two new Pokémon titles, but more single player games might get more people hyped up. Hopefully the next Direct gives us more info soon.

Personally, this feels like the most unnintendo thing to do, though saying that they did do the same with the DS systems.
I'm glad the controllers are larger, I felt they were a bit uncomfortable in my huge paws. But i was a bit dissappointed that it all looks grey now. I kinda liked the different cases for each of the Joy-Cons, it's a shame the only difference is the analog stick.

What do you guys think?

I think this is bound to be a Wii U situation. The Switch 1 was such a breath of fresh air that it captivated both dedicated Nintendo fans and casual audiences in a way that hadn't been done since the Wii.

But much like the Wii U, the Switch 2 is too similar and reliant on the legacy of its predecessor to really stand out on its own. I could be wrong though idk.

There’s the heel. I already have a Switch and most of the time, it’s just collecting dust: only played it for Binding of Isaac which is the only game in my library I feel has the most replay value of them all. Why should I buy into a new Switch if it’s going to be a similar experience to the console that’s currently sitting in my living room right now? Also, Mario Kart 9 has some big shoes to fill because my relatives still enjoy 8 Deluxe and has yet to get tired of it; and upon first look, I’m not that all excited for 9.

The contrast between Wii and Wii U are huge. Wii U tried a new fully-blown gimmick but it was a failed idea, it wasn't easy to discard it either like the Xbox One Kinect as the Wii U Gamepad was the core of the system and non-replaceable for some reason.

Switch 2 is literally the same console as the previous with a more powerful hardware and ease of use. If they somehow find a way to fuck it up that badly tho...

I’d argue it was that gimmick from the WiiU that made it sell more than one would expect from a failed console. The Wii U was also a more powerful console than the Wii and Wii games were able to be played from it; however, the public didn’t really care for that. Switch 2 is about the same song and dance as the WiiU except THIS TIME… you can use the Joy-Cons like a mouse. You know, the controllers parents probably bought multiple of because they keep breaking. What else about the Switch 2 that can be a reliable argument for a 10 year old Switch 1 owner persuading his mom to buy it for Christmas?

I'm hyped for this console, it looks slightly more slick and I like it, and also, Mario Kart 9 looks so cool! (DK aside)

however, I'm not thrilled with most of the design, despite looking slicker, it very much looks exactly what you think it'd look like, a better looking Switch, but still a Switch, and it's kinda disappointing.

I'm still hyped for it though, I can't wait for what more they'll show (hopefully a new Mii game🙏)

After some reflection, this is where I'm at with it.

He looks goofier now, but that's okay. The character is literally a gorilla in a red necktie that jumps on crocodiles and rides on a swordfish. It's okay for him to not be all serious and brooding 24/7.

Honestly, it's amazing that Rare's version of the character lasted as long as it did since their divorce from Nintendo is almost a quarter of a century old now.

Like how slicker it looks, and the mouse thing for the Joy-Cons seems interesting. I'm really curious how the magnetic Joy-Cons will work tho, will it feel strong or come-up by accident as some people worry about, only time will tell.

Anyway It's still looks like a Switch but a little different from what it seems. Some people may not be a fan of that but yeah, I agree with Drazah there. It'll still sell alright despite just being a better Switch, even tho not as much as what came before. (I don't see this as a Wii U situation for me honestly)

Also love the new Mario Kart having that sort of 64 and Super Circuit vibe they're going for, and even how more bouncy it feels. DK's new design looks fine to me, even tho I prefer the Rare interpretation.

Closing thoughts is that I Iiked what they shown even tho nothing exciting. It's a teaser for what they're showing, but man I want more still.

(Anyway can't wait to play my Switch 1 games on this with most of them being compatible hopefully. That's the only thing I'm looking forward to)

Even I was confused when the Wii U was first revealed, thinking it was just some weird add-on to the original Wii instead of an entirely new console at first--you know, similar to the SEGA CD or 32X attachments to the Genesis/Mega Drive. Just imagine more casual or younger gamers trying to get a Switch 2 and being confused seeing it mixed in store shelves with the OG Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED. It would undoubtedly result in situations similar to someone buying a last-gen Xbox One X, confusing it for the current-gen Xbox Series X (or vice versa).

As for me, the quality of Nintendo's first-party games will make or break the Switch 2 for me, as I'm perfectly content playing everything else on the Steam Deck I have right now. Even if it continues Nintendo's obnoxious boom-bust hardware cycle (SNES sold a bit less than the NES; GameCube sold less than the N64; the Wii U was an absolute FLOP compared to the Wii), hopefully the Switch 2 at least has the kind of stellar library of games that only seems to come whenever Nintendo as a company struggles and has to try much harder to stay relevant.

I have extremely fond memories of my GameCube, for example, even if all the magazines at the time called it "Nintendo's Dreamcast" and predicted Nintendo would exit the hardware business similar to SEGA at the time. That was due to some absolutely stellar exclusives, such as Luigi's Mansion, Super Smash Bros Melee, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (the version that actually ran at 60 FPS), the BEST version of OG Resident Evil 4 (It was a GameCube exclusive! I refuse to acknowledge the PS2 version that came out like a month later!), etc.

Throughout the course of my Switch's life, I've needed to replace the left joycon at least 3 times due to the infamous stick drift that, to this day, Nintendo refuses to acknowledge, let alone offer repairs or refunds for faulty hardware, and of course they never sold joycons individually, always as a stupidly expensive set. Nintendo used to be famous for the durability of their products and the generous repair and replacement policies that backed-up their quality guarantees. Now they're sleazy hawkers of shit that they know is trash, and I have no reason whatsoever to believe that they'll change now that they know they can get away with it.

I'm never buying hardware from Nintendo again. I look forward to emulating slightly better looking games on my Deck, though.

My guess is that by that they meant stuff like Labo, Ring Fit and other wacky accessories won't work because of the new Joy-Cons, bigger size and removed IR camera. And seems like every Switch 1 cartridge works on Switch 2 so that would only leave indie devs to decide if they wanna make their games available on both consoles or only one digitally.

I think magnetised Joy-Cons could be good for the system, as the old slide mechanism was known to wear out a lot on the original. I do wonder how much one would be able to shake the console before the Joy-Cons come flying off, though I suspect Nintendo would have already thought of that.

There seems to be a release button on the back of the Joy-Cons still so I guess they won't come of unless you press that button (or rip them out and break your console)

I really wonder if the technical programing masterminds at Nintendo, could pull off a new Eshop, wich loads the tiny icons with a little bit of text, quicker than my old Pentium III computer did, back in around 2006. That would be an incredible sight to behold. I could only dream of such technical inovation.

The Wii U simply did not have enough third-party support from all the AAA games that were receiving awards from their quality because of the performance the Gamepad was sucking to the console due to the console having to render two screens. Many devs simply could not know how to use the gamepad for the games, even Nintendo's own studios like Retro Studios completely disbanded the gamepad on the new DKC Tropical Freeze. This was around the time GTA 5, Skyrim, The Witcher III, Minecraft (which came into Wii U a little later) and overall the PS4 and PC were having a better generation instead of Xbox and specially Nintendo.

What always push a Nintendo console forward is the games and the Wii U had some hits like MK8, Super Mario 3d World, Splatoon, Smash 4, SMM but also some hard misses like Mario Tennis Ultra Smash, Animal Crossing Amibo, Mario Party 10, no new zelda until console death, no new metroid, the year of luigi, weak Paper Mario, Wii Sports Club was horrendous, the list goes on and on. These were simply not the games nintendo thought was enough to push more console sales.

Wii U was a failed gimmick with Nintendo games that were not enough to push the console forward.

NS2 in comparison would try some new things here and there, but not major enough to modify the entire console. Switch 2 is practically a PS5 all over again and since devs gained more trust to Nintendo and also the company's studios became more stronger than ever, we might have a library with wonderful games.

Like I said, it’s just a prediction I have. Let’s not forget that despite the sales, the Switch 1 wasn’t a perfect console either. In fact, there were quite a few controversies involving the Switch’s flimsy hardware and the Joy Con’s overall worth. I don’t own a Wii U but I do own a Switch: at the same time, I also have four Joy Cons that all have drift to some degree. One is outright busted due to me playing Ring Fit Adventure. Most of the games I care to have is on the Switch and it may take me at least five years after the Switch 2’s release to even consider buying it; and that’s IF I don’t have much on my plate to even care to do so. Money’s tight and I’m turning more into indie games and emulation/modifications of old games I owned before over buying a Switch 1st party game for sixty bucks: let alone a whole console. All I’m saying is, the Switch 2 is a hard sell EVEN for a Nintendo fan like myself!
