Man, 2024 has been a shitty year for me, losing several artist that made my childhood. Including Akira Toriyama, Rachael Lillis, and now him.

It’s heartbreaking really
This year has been really rough and I hope next isn’t as so bad without so many losses
Rest in Peace devil
I didn’t know his game series or the guy himself but I can tell he was a very passionate and good person
Honestly
just an idea and not a request
It would pretty sweet if the NG community made a art collab tributing those we lost on NG
Just an idea of course and it’s not necessary

Rob passed of a heart attack while on vacation with his family in Aruba, as reported by his sister and relayed to me by @JRetrioX, a huge BDX fan.
Rob will be missed and has been added to the In Memoriam page.

My condolences. I even recall playing Final Fantasy Sonic X at one point
The deeper you delve, the more strategizing is involved.
Everyone who can, PLEASE give some support to Rob's family this holiday season.
He leaves behind a wife and two young boys and this should have been the Christmas of their young lives. They were all on vacation in Aruba when he suddenly passed, making their expenses all the more costly.

fly high man... spread your wings and fly high...
Best regards
It hurts seeing people with the same birth year passing.
Rest in peace.
His animations and games were great. He seemed like an awesome guy. He will be remembered.
Extremely sad, my heart goes out to his family.
BlackDevilX's work personally inspired me to create and set me on the path for my career and creative hobbies I continue to enjoy today. The pioneers like him that made these early internet series had a huge ripple effect across the world that pushed many people into animation, game dev, programming, VA and other media.
RIP man.
Sad his family had to lose him so soon. Fly high BlackDevilX

But I felt if I'm going to speak on this anywhere, it should be here. This prompted me to return, and I'd like it to last. I've long thought about trying to reconnect with my roots, find old friends and rekindle the spark I had in this community again, but I never get around to it. I keep waiting for the right time, and I waited too long.
BlackDevilX is one of the first people I connected with here, and one of the first close friends I ever made online, back in 2004. We bonded instantly over our shared passions and sprite animation as our medium of expression. We liked to push each other to better our craft, sometimes as a friendly rivalry. Together we blazed a trail through the sprite animation scene, while being a part of the very medium's invention. He was essential in turning my passive participation in this creative space into an active one. And here I am, 20 years later, a seasoned multidisciplinary creative professional, whose drive and inspiration continues to emanate from this advent. BDX has affected me in ways I may never fully appreciate.
That Newgrounds continues to not only survive, but thrive all these years later, in spite of the shifting internet and cultural landscape, is truly a silver lining. The ripple effect our community had on wider culture is monumental and scarcely known or understood by the latest generation. It is something I think about quite a lot. And I think, seeing the outpouring of passionate responses to BDX's sprite animations from over 15 years ago, still that significant to people even now, demonstrates a curious profoundness to our community and its creativity that I always intuitively knew was there. It reminds me that we really were on to something. And despite how niche it may appear, BDX was no small part of it. I'm unsure if even he knew the extent his work touched the world, and in ways that may be broader and stranger than just the colorful video game fandoms who knew and loved it directly.
I've been active on the internet since the 90s. I've dealt with a lot of people. I've dealt with a lot of terrible people. I've had friends up and stab me in the back, even after knowing them for years. I have a bloody trail behind me of wasted friendships and emotions. And in all this time, BDX remained a real friend to me. He was more genuine than most people I've dealt with, and I regret giving my time to the wrong people. After our heyday, we slowly drifted away. Understandably, we built our own lives and put our time into that. He started a family. We started to leave our toys behind. We talked less. Aspirations turned to reminiscence. In the last few years, we only chatted occasionally. Most of the time, he would be the one to initiate it. I tend to be reclusive, introverted. Now I'm wishing I did more to reach out. To just decide at any point to be the one to connect, be more of the friend he was to me. It always feels like there's plenty of time, we can hit it up whenever. But, this was a serious reminder that we can't depend on that. We have to actively make what we have count.
BDX always called me Shorty, based on the first name I had on Newgrounds. That's what he knew me as when we met and that's what he knew me as 20 years later. I never mention that name, but you can find it in the credits of his animations if you go looking. I used to jokingly get after him for continuing to use that name for me, but now I'm glad it'll stay that way forever.
I'm gonna miss you BDX.
Thank you for sharing this, I don't know how thought out this response was but I think it perfectly captures something we all need to hear and I've recommended several times to people that they read your post during the holidays this year
