He was also a father, radio show host and loved connecting with fans.

His history on NG spans 15 years and his last Tweet was a playful throwback to the FF Sonic X series:

Rob passed of a heart attack while on vacation with his family in Aruba, as reported by his sister and relayed to me by @JRetrioX, a huge BDX fan.

Rob will be missed and has been added to the In Memoriam page.

rob always seemed like a super kind man, what a tragic loss.

moreover it's really terrible he died of a heart attack like what happened with Derrick J. Wyatt (who was not just anyone, he was behind Teen Titan, Ben10 (OV), Scoobydo Mystery Incorporate) who died now 3 years ago in 2021, for people including Tom Flup, please take really care of your body and your health, I am overweight and every night I try to eat healthier and do sports every night, that's my message.

I cant believe he's gone. He made my childhood awesome with his Final Fantasy Sonic X series.

I remember playing FFSX6 when I was 8 years old, and this hit me pretty hard because he was one of the people who inspired me to get into animation.

Rest in peace BDX. He will be missed and his amazing work will be remembered.

Rob was a little brother to me, and impacted my life in a way that nobody else on earth has. He was a kind and gentle soul, and a wonderful father and husband. He impacted the childhoods of countless people, and his work is cherished by even more. The world is definitely a darker place now that his light is extinguished. I will forever miss you, Rob. Thank you so much for being a part of my life.

Response to BlackDevilX, 1988-2024 2024-12-19 15:23:18

Thank you for this wonderful tribute, Tom. Rob would be honored to know how many people still loved him and his series. Episode 7 of FFSX had to be put on hold due to some health issues he was dealing with but he always intended to finish the series when he was well enough, and he always made sure to make the time to answer questions from anyone who called themselves a fan. Pour one out for him, light a candle, and stay tuned.

Sad news. I met him online years ago and even helped him out on FFSX with sprites and a few ideas. He was a cool guy.

My condolences.RIP.

Terribly sorry about this news. This is not a good month this year when we're losing famous NG users...

May his works and contribution to Newgrounds presevered and his presence on NG will be remembered in our hearts.

You will sadly be missed...

This is such a devastating loss. I remember playing Final Fantasy Sonic X when I was younger and being in complete awe with how insane that whole series was. All of my favorite things in one place, and to this day, it still feels like the coolest shit. Every so often I come back to Final Fantasy Sonic X6 just to see those animations again, and every so often I still find myself quoting "Lend me your power!" just because of how iconic the Super Sonic Giga Breaker is.

In general, his games lead me to finding a lot of things

If it wasn't for the Aeon fight, I would've likely never find out and end up liking Street Fighter Alpha 3 as much as I do

My first exposure to Full Metal Alchemist was because of the FFSX5 intro, and so much more.

I ended up liking his games so much that even after years went by, I was still hopeful we'd at least get a conclusion to that series, and it would be all worth it, and I was over the moon when I found out about Final Fantasy Sonic X7 was going to be a thing, but reading about his passing just makes me feel utterly depressed

This is a devastating loss, and I wish Rob's friends and family to find peace as soon as they can

I don't know this guy personally, but the things he created definitely touched and changed me, same as they did with a lot of people aswell.

Rest in peace

Godspeed.

There's always a tomorrow, I guess.

As a Final Fantasy Sonic X fan and admirer since childhood, playing all games from 1st to last on any site I've encountered in my Sonic/Mario phase, growing up with the Flash animations circa mid-2000s in my late-grandpa's computer, I am utterly saddened if not quakened by this. As if the death of my gramps and other legendary famous people throughout this year wasn't unbearable enough, I now see an icon of mine depart in such a way.

Well. Merry Christmas, y'all... Stay together with family, and remember to love as much as you can before they are gone. Cherish the moments before they part to beyond this world. And rest assured, may you be loved by others as much as you love yourself.

I hope he rests in peace, your final fantasy sonic blur. You will always be my shining memory, forever and ever after.

Damn, just damn...

Like I didn't really expect this to happen especially by a young age, so there goes my hopes for Episode 7 ig. I remember seeing my neighbors at some party play Episode 6 (I heard they were using hard mode) and yeah.

Aeon, the red buster sword from Super Sonic (that was coincidentally acknowledged in Sonic Frontiers), the boss from Episode 5, etc. Like I have a soft spot for this series and the cooler memories along side SMBZ.

So thank you Rob/BlackDevilX for making this spectacular series, and redefining childhoods, so hope for your good afterlife.

Man, he even teased FFSX 7 which never came to be a thing. He's also made so many great flash games / animations back then which were huge highlight for me as a kid browsing around Newgrounds.

Rest in peace, BlackDevilX. We will miss you.
