A: https://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/1380637

B: Corpse Labyrinth Group

C:This is a song matching the first moments that the wayward hero would experience entering the Corpse Labyrinth. Miles upon miles of paths, as far as the eye can see. Stairs peeking out of the edges of the stone walkways leading to dense fogs and unknowable horrors below. Other heroes can be seen in the distance walking listlessly on or fighting their way back up to the lit and unfogged paths. Every second another is dragged down into the depths by skeletons pulling people into the pits below. Off in the distance the strong and organized fight off the endless dead while others rest by the fire in pockets of life. Even a minutes of sleep in this world would is a luxury that must be bought with blood.

The distant bell of the border village tolls periodically but you can no longer go back to see it. That world is over.

Welcome to the first circle.

I hope everyone enjoys my song. I might make more if thats ok.

While only 1-2 songs can be part of the event, depending on the challenge instructions, feel free to use the challenges as inspiration to make as many songs as you want! You're welcome to share any of these songs in the VGMC category of the Discord server linked in the slideshow.

This is the submissions thread.

I added you to Corpse Labyrinth anyway, but it's still useful to have a record of all sign ups in one thread. Thanks.

A: https://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/1381109

B: Rat Scraps

C: This here is music for "Da Boss" as he's rather ominously referred to as. A mysterious theme for a mysterious guy! What's he got hiding? Surely there's a couple skeletons in his closet. Guess you'll have to uncover them yourself...

I've got a little more commentary on the song on its actual page, so I won't bother repeating myself here.

A: https://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/1381443

B: Voice of the Fallen

C: The details are in the track itself, but Ill post it here anyway.

So before we begin:

I completely misunderstood the assignment, and instead of writing a simple piece of music for the designated challenge segment, I ended up reading the entire story and writing music to go along with it - And by the time I had realized that I was only supposed to write for a specific segment, I was already a few hours into writing and I just couldnt be bothered to start over. This is the result of me attempting to turn (Most of) the scenes into a piece of some sort

This was composed using the FF7, Pokemon Emerald, Mini Cheapy Orchestra, and 007 GoldenEye soundfonts via nothing but the piano roll

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1w-mLZ49HhnerDpI8A7yYg62-R_OWgmagGKN6LZl4Vvg/edit?tab=t.0

00:00 - 0:20 // Waking up

0:20 - 0:59 // The guards are dead?

1:00 - 1:17 // Gather supplies, ride the horse to the top of the hill

1:17 - 1:55 // The land is breathtaking; No time to waste. Proceed to the sewers

1:55 - 2:25 // Dark, stinky sewers

2:25 - 3:05 // Briefly jumped by a rat and a thief, disposed of easily, however

3:05 - 3:45 // The homeless camp, the meeting, and the ring

3:45 - 4:44 // The guards take aim, a battle ensues

Quite frankly I think what I made for this is relatively low effort, given the size of the task that I attempted to take on, and I might just make more tweaks to it as the weeks go by; But overall Im glad I sat down and used my energy to make an attempt at conveying a pre-determined scene into a score of some sort. I will be incredibly busy this holiday season so I rushed this a lot more than I would like to have, just in order to say I had something done on time.

Hopefully someone likes it, and that you all appreciate the art of storytelling through music in such a manner, and I hope you all enjoy the event without making the same error that I did (All I had to do was read the whole thing and I didnt)

B. Grab Chop Swing Blow

C. This is my track for the first stage: The School Yard. It has an energetic feel for that strong start of Grab Chop Swing Blow and was made as a looping track.

A.

B. Grab Chop Swing Blow

C. This track is for the first stage, The School Yard. The song loops 4 times, with slight variations for each character in the game concept. I figured it'd make switching characters more fun to do :)

B: Turning the Tides of War

C: Made for a kind of end game, for an epic final cut with a huge number of enemies. Initially, I made a composition outside of the challenge, but after listening to and rereading the list of inspiration music once again, I realized that this is what I need. Enjoy!

B. Rat Scraps!

C. This track works best if you imagine it being played while a filthy rat opens his trench coat, revealing many goods. Behind him is a rinky-dink band consisting of only four members: A bass player, a tuba player, a drummer, and a guy who whistles and snaps. It ain't much, but maybe it'll put you in the mood to purchase something from our fine selection of fully legal tender!

Grab Chop Swing Blow

Wasn't sure if the game being pixel art meant that I need to do chiptune, so I stuck to what I'm used to for now and looked at the character art for inspiration on what the music style should be.

Not sure If I have the time to do a proper level track, might just do the game over scenario and wrap up my submissions with two short tracks

A. https://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/1387356

B. Group: The Tested Hero.

C. So I decided to go for the final fight scenario. I wanted to make the track for the character and not the foe so it starts slow with an edge to it as if the character is barely managing to fight, growing tense as the foe gets the upper hand.

At 2:13 especifically I tried to show the MC still could go on and finally turned the tables at 2:58 where the character uses every bit of energy left in them to push through. Then at 3:52 is kind of the fanfare to a whole journey. I really like that last part. At first I wasn't going to loop it as it was one cinematic event, but I did it anyway because it is still technically a fight theme at heart.

Hopefully I won't have to edit it? I think it sounds decent, but I'm also feverish still so we will see if reviews and/or comments destroy me.

I'll try to work on one of the other scenarios if possible too.

Track Name:

Do Fallen Brothers Sing?

About the track:

I went for a breathing, chanting feel to the rhythm of this piece. Also sort of like what you'd hear in a church, given that the dead are sanctified, especially when they die for a good cause.

Hopefully ya'll like this. I had fun making it.

I might make the battle music too, cause I have more than enough time to do that. Would it make sense to post that here as well if it's ever made?

A. Full Track: Tragedy Turned to Rage

Just the Battle Theme:

B. Bond of A Father and Son
C. Optionally tell us about your track:

These two files are my submission to the competition! The first track is the full version of the piece, with the piece being in two halves. The first half is the cutscene before the fighting portion of the scene, which depicts the young knight's father's tragic death from the enemy ambush. The slower scenes depicting the father's final words to his son, while the horns of anger being to blare. The same melody that is slowly shown will take a new form in the rage filled second part. The anger boils up more and more in our hero, until eventually it explodes, and the full might of the hero is sent against the foes who did this terrible thing.

This was a fun track to make, all of it was made in Musescore 3 over the course of a few days, definitely had a ton of fun with this competition!

(Note: I made the battle theme separately because I felt some would love to listen to that on its own. While I couldn't get the looping to work, I do know that if the last part of the audio file with the silence was cropped out it would seemlessly be able to be looped.)

B. Bond of a Father and Son

C. I chose the second option in my group, which was to create a piece of loopable battle music representative of the scene.

Goup: Corpse Labyrinth

The song unfolds as we move towards the gloomy labyrinth and the first trials of the empire's last hope.

B: The Tested Hero

C: This track may not really fit the theme of challenge, but I wanted to try something new and experiment. So don't judge me harshly.

0:00 - 1:55 - The surface section of the location. Almost everything is more or less calm, but moderately difficult to pass. The hero moves forward, bypassing the pits, swirling water. At the end of this section, he reaches a well leading down into the depths of this strange place.

1:15 - 2:36 -The upper caves of the location. The difficulty of the location increases with the hero's immersion into the depths of the unknown. Something is definitely wrong.

2:36 - 3:27 -The lower caves of the location. There is almost no light, you have to navigate by the small flame of a magic lamp shining underwater. At the end, the hero encounters a passage leading to the deepest parts of the location.

3:27 - 4:10 -You've reached the bottom, but can you make it back?

B. Grab Chop Swing Blow

C. This is my track for The Shop. It has a slower and more relaxed feel for deciding what items to get before heading back into action.
