It'd be nice to see if we can view who we follow/our friends features easily visible in, say, your feed or something.

I'm personally not a big fan of "hot items" because popular stuff will already be featured, because, well, it's popular. It doesn't need help getting noticed, it's exponential. I'm looking for the personal recommendations that were lost to time but one person remembers and believes deserves more clout.

I think I can speak for a lot of people that we’ve seen the same people recommend the same exact things every week.

People pay to promote anything, but it’s not limited to their own posts. It’s also for other people’s projects as well.
& while it’s funny to do a little trolling, it gets repetitive, unfunny, & gives people’s newgrounds entries a bad taste in people’s mouth sometimes, and they may not even mean to.

It’s like drinking refreshing Coke for a month straight and listening to joyful Christmas music for three months as a retail worker. It gets old & its initial effect dies.

Sometimes the repetitive promotion done by the same people will have the opposite effect.

You also kind of miss out on seeing other people’s project posts as well.

I agree with all of this, but one addendum: I think a work should only be featured once PERIOD, not on a per-person basis. I’d imagine having people submitting one thing you’ve made over and over in general has to get insanely obnoxious very quickly.

Unrelated to this post I’m replying to, I disagree with the “even popular artists don’t get the views they deserve” sentiment. Popular artists DO, they often get Frontpaged every time they post. Smaller artists get drowned out all the time. I do not want to see the same people over and over on Takeover Tuesday. I want to see hidden gems, people with few or no FPs to their name. Hell, I know plenty of artists that could benefit from more exposure via Takeover Tuesday. But between repeats and popular works getting submitted it’s hard.

Takeover Tuesday is a great concept, but I want it to be better. It’s a feature that needs a lot more fine-tuning.

im here to make stuff and kick ass and frankly im all out of ass

I agree. Most people know games like “Pico’s School” & cartoons like “Punch Punch Forever” is at this point, I strongly believe it doesn’t need to be frontpaged every week.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask for this due to the fact it may drown out potential hidden gems that can be spread by its hype by word of mouth by supporters alone.

Let's imagine this in practice: Starting next week, nothing can be featured if it has already been featured. ~2000 items are now already on the "block list." What happens when someone finds something to feature, gets blocked, then finds something else to feature, gets blocked, then finds something else to feature, and gets blocked?

I imagine they will give up eventually. If they became a Supporter because they wanted to participate, they might also request a refund.

Right now the premise of Takeover Tuesday is easy to explain: Become a Supporter and you can feature one thing on the front page each week. Any deviation from that will result in a text wall of disclaimers on the front page, along with people feeling like they don't have the freedom to truly feature what they want to feature.

I'll use Punch Punch Forever as an example to explore some other thoughts. Most NG regulars know that it's pretty basic to feature Punch Punch Forever on Takeover Tuesday, given that it's already so popular here. The person who decides to feature Punch Punch Forever is probably not in tune with this and if they got blocked, it's unlikely they would turn around and suddenly feature some hidden gem. They would likely go for another extremely popular item, or give up because they are just here for Punch Punch Forever.

I've seen people feature Punch Punch Forever each week but I don't get any feeling that it's dominating Takeover Tuesday and stealing opportunities from other people. The whole idea is that "Supporters have taken over" and I don't think we need to rush to start micro-managing them with "not like that" stipulations.

Thank you for your explanation and analysis!!

It makes a whole lot of sense why you decided to make the system this way. I didn’t think about the end result of this kind of system, and put into practice… yeah it wouldn’t be good for the most part.

My apologies if I came on strong with my suggestions. I was only thinking about the betterment of the community.

It's still tempting to implement a per-person throttle, so individual people have to at least mix it up each week. So far that hasn't been a huge problem, though, as most people do pick something different each week (plus it goes back to disclaimers and people feeling like they can't feature what they want to feature).
