This is a good question, we do need to look at higher limits there.

For example, with something like the Dreamcast collab, you could have the credits categorized by Animation, Art, Music, Voice Acting, and Organizing. That way, if people want to know, for instance, who a specific animator is, or they're looking for the NG profile of a specific Voice Actor, they can expand out that category. Or, you can have people expand out the whole credits section and just peruse the whole lineup!

I also don't think this should be a part of every multi-author project, especially if it's only two to seven people. But if you hit a minimum of X people - say, 10 - credited on a project, then the categories would sort everyone out. Especially on massive projects like these collabs or things like Tankmas, categories on credits might help a bit, but that's the idea I'm tossing out lol

My concern with something like this is it creates a lot more clicking to reveal the full list. We will be showing the full list if it's under a certain threshold, so for example there wouldn't be a case where only one or two people get cropped out.

The dates also seem to be removed.

The trophies aren't ordered by date at the moment and currently if someone wants to see the date, they can click on Metal Gear Funnies and see there that it was a trophy for July 2008. The system for pulling in trophies was a bit of a mess that needed overhauling, will see about including dates on the user page though. If you click a trophy on the user page, it will open a lightbox that is a little more descriptive but still doesn't include dates.

I love that Deal with Putin got Best of the Month!

iu_1267598_1568164.png

Also for multi-author, maybe cut it off after 10 to see more? 10 being the old maximum allowed. For those that aren't truncated, you could make it so it randomly selects 9 of the authors under the person who submitted, or allow for up to 9 "hilighted authors".

At 9/10/24 05:35 PM, TomFulp wrote:Our new Monthly Voting System launched on Saturday and voting for the Best of August is in progress.

For the first time, we’re including Art and Audio in the selection process!

Also for the first time, winners will be receiving trophy badges on their pages. This update is retroactive, meaning all the top five movies and games from the past now have trophies, on both the content pages and the author trophies page.

One thing that might cause confusion: When we first introduced monthly awards in February 2005, movies and games were combined into a single Top Five. We still retained all the voting data, however, so these entries now have trophies based on their respective categories.

For example, Interactive Buddy was #1 for February 2005 and now has a first place trophy for the games category, while Bunnykill 2 was #2 for February 2005 but now has a first place trophy for the movie category.

This inconsistency only exists for the first five months of awards, as we split winners into Movies and Games in June 2005. Side note, it’s a shame Xombie was removed at the request of a film development deal that never panned out.

Dreamcast Collab

The Dreamcast Collab has launched!

https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/947362

This is a downright massive collab, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Sega Dreamcast in North America. An even more impressive interactive version is coming later this month, complete with an art gallery and music listening station.

This collab got so big, in fact, that it is forcing our hand with a change some of you have requested over the years but I’ve always been a bit stubborn about.

First, some history: Besides being the first website that allowed people to instantly publish games and movies on the web, Newgrounds was also the first website to introduce a multi-author crediting system, in April of 2003. This system has gotten a lot of use in the 21 years since, although sometimes the credits get a bit too long for some people’s taste, on mobile in particular. In those cases, we’ve been asked to collapse the credits by default, with the option to expand.

I’ve never been a big fan of that idea because I love seeing long credits lists. It’s a point of pride that NG brings so many talented people together and they end up making these mega projects, where the author list is like a flex of how great this place is.

With the Dreamcast Collab, however, the page response lag is noticeable. We’ve decided it’s probably time to crop longer author lists, with an option to expand. Expect that soonish, then we’ll see how it feels. Probably something like this:

Games with only monthly trophies don’t appear on my profile. Meowxtape: Delivery got a best of the month, but is missing. Otherwise, great update! Would it also be possible to have a place to see which of my submissions have gotten frontpaged in the past?

I also think 10 would be a good minimum threshold! It's typically only these massive collabs that seem to really push past that number anyways. I also think it's cool to see all the people involved so this might be a good middle ground.

holy smokes i found a folder of all my like 2008 forum signatures that my friends made me i'm gonna use them lol

One thing I noticed about this is that when I click to show all of the authors, the audio linked onto the credits repeat twice.

That's fair! Like I said, I just wanted to possibly toss an idea out lol. Either way, I'm looking forward to the update on the credits and on other things soon!

All awesome!

While I welcome the credits collapse (especially on the phone) I think the current threshold to trigger it is too low. I assume it's 10, give or take, and I think that could impact a bunch of regular (non-collab(non-massive)) submissions (add a few voice actors and a few artists on a short and you're already over the threshold)

With that in mind, would like to throw in the suggestion for increasing the threshold. Maybe around 30?

I don't know, I'm not smart.

Credits will probably be getting an overhaul all around, due to it being another part of the site that's built up a lot of bandaids over the years and is inconsistent between portals. Will likely revisit stuff like that when the time comes.
