i'll be real, recently games have come back to just being "time wasters" for me. i'm more for supporting indie games and such, but ultimately i've just gotten so busy with personal passions and college that i haven't had time for much gaming!

back then, like nearly everyone else, i played games cuz fun :D but now, i just play them to wind down. i've unfortunately been developing that mindset of "waow this game is coolio, but i could be doing work or making art rn" :/

Fun, Stimulation, and to briefly escape this horrible reality!

Because they are a good art form. The unity of music, animation, writing, gameplay, and overall direction makes it hard to forget what you experience. Undertale for example has dodge puzzles with small gimmicks. Without all the writing, music, and art, undertale would merely be a small time waster rather than an experience worthy of great praise. Lots of mobile games now adays are not art because they are only time wasters as is.

I play games to destress. I like doing something with my hands and working towards a goal, especially if it's something that won't have any consequences. Even when I do more passive forms of entertainment like watching Youtube I still feel the need to do something, I guess I just don't like being idle. The challenge gives me something to work for without having to worry that failure is gonna mess up my future like with school or work. The sense of achievement I get when I beat a difficult boss or puzzle is like no other.
