No, but seriously. I switch between both Windows 10 and Linux respectively. (I use VM's in a lil usb stick) and often use Linux for personal use, and Windows for my productions. I am lazy though an often just stick with Windows at the moment anyway so I can finish my current WIPs. Even Mac OS if I am feeling real fancy. But havent got the recent OS version yet lmao.

But in the future, I plan to custom build a Linux machine for all purposes, with limitations considered (if fuckin' any at this point.) but that's if I get the rare thing called money.

Honestly, my only limitations with Linux are very few specific programs and maybe wonky stuff with vr and anti cheats.

But if you don't bother with anti cheat games known to be bad on linux, you really have little to no issues.

Everything Windows can do Linux typically has a free FOSS version that works just as well.

i had used beginner distros like Ubuntu & Mint to go TOR browsing in the past, so i am somewhat familiar with Linux. i am considering either EndeavourOS as i am interested in Arch, or Clear Linux as it reportedly has the best Intel/AMD processor support.
how are Nvidia drivers nowadays, i have the MSi Ventus 2x RTX 4060. are MSI motherboards generally supported as well, i have the B650 Gaming Plus WIFI...i ask because of potential faulty WIFI drivers.

@VassagoCult may i ask...what headset & drivers do you use? i also play VR games w/ Oculus Quest 2 via Steam Air Link. i do have a link cable as backup, because i also had Windows 11 issues.

I used Linux since I was a wee lil troutling. Recently, I switched back to Windows after roughly 16 years because I ran out of brainpower to do simple things like troubleshoot my system when updates to my system caused issues. Often these troubleshooting steps took 10-20 minutes of googling to resolve. But I ran out of patience to deal with this kind of thing with a large load of time-sensitive work that cropped up in my life.

I gave up a little privacy and freedom for time-sensitive priorities. That was a choice I had to make.

Ubuntu, from my understanding, will likely be a highly reliable desktop computing system. But when you prioritize your freedom, and your control, and your ability to break free from having your data being used to train AI, and you don't want commercial software gathering your data to better advertise products to you ... Well, I just wouldn't trust Ubuntu to fit that bill. It will, most likely, be compatible with all your hardware. And that's low-stress.

EndeavourOS was my distro of choice following my stints with Ubuntu (2007-2010), Mint, Fedora, and Manjaro.

In several years of using Manjaro, I fell in love with the Arch-based system. I enjoyed the proprietary closed-source binaries that were an easy integration. But sometimes Manjaro support was limited when compared to Arch. And sometimes the bleeding-edge repos of Arch were necessary for things to function correctly. EndeavourOS was the perfect in-between and didn't come with the same criticism of Manjaro's inclusion of proprietary and closed-source inclusions. And EndeavourOS failed less-frequently.

I have been using Windows 11 for 2½ years, and I haven't had to Google anything silly about how to get my system to boot again following a system update. I'm happier with this, given my current life situation and computer use-cases. I deeply miss what Arch-based systems offered me, but ultimately my computer can no longer be a hobby as I rely on it to perform critical tasks.

I hope something I've said makes sense and provides some clarity to your soul-search with distros.

Yes, that's how I started before I did the full switch ! Make sure you backup every document you might want to keep from that computer since they'll be wiped from your disk, but if you're not using it there isn't much risk, and you'll find it'll be much faster that's it used to be. If it's already a 64 bit system it should run any distro fine. For 32 bit systems, most distros no longer support even Debian recently decided to drop it, but there are still some that do such as Puppy Linux and Bodhi Linux. You can probably still find an old 32 bit iso for older distros that used to support 32 bits and install it if it's really just for testing reasons.
