Might as well just let it be the latter imo. Also to dude talking about I Spit On Your Grave I didn't read your review, I will tomorrow some time. Gotta sleep soon.

Last posted here 2 years ago maybe. I've watched some horror films.

Paranormal activity - Sucked. Watched it alone in the middle of the night, it was still boring as hell.

August underground mordum - The violence scenes were done well and I liked the realistic style, but there's no story to follow which makes it boring.

The Poughkeepsie tapes - This one is done in the style of a documentary. It is about a serial killer who videotapes all of his crimes, and the story is told from the perspective of the people viewing the tapes. The things that he recorded are quite disturbing, this film actually scared me.

Henry - Portrait of a serial killer - Not the best, but good for a low budget horror film from 20 years ago.

Nosferatu - This should be seen just because it has such a great atmosphere.

REC - Boring.

Trick R Treat - Too lighthearted to be scary, there are some good ideas here, but it falls flat and it's kind of stupid.

All the August Underground movies are golden. Mordum being my favorite, it's my user page header.

August undeground mordum felt like just a long version of one of those internet shock videos, except that it didn't really happen.

I felt kind of the same way, although I disagree with your conclusion it sucked. The first 90 or so minutes I thought were boring but after watching a second time realized its supposed to be a tension creater. Several people i've watched the movie with though the rise in tension was amazing (although I didn't really see it building up). Overall I thought it was pretty good, all the hype kinda ruined it for me but I still really enjoyed the end.

Nosferatu - This should be seen just because it has such a great atmosphere.

Max Schreck was incredible as Count Orlok. This movie should be seen because its a horror classic and anyone who likes horror should see it. Around Halloween of last year I was able to see it with a live orchestra which was absolutely amazing.

REC - Boring.

I disagree. It was a great film. Granted once again I can see how parts could seem pretty boring. I recommend this movie to anyone who hasn't seen it. Its pretty damn good. The sequel is great if not better than the first (although I didn't like the religious spin to things). 2 more are planned. Should be interested in checking them out cause the original directors are going to direct them (well 1 apiece).

Trick R Treat - Too lighthearted to be scary, there are some good ideas here, but it falls flat and it's kind of stupid.

Once again I kinda disagree. This was Michael Dougherty's first film. In that reguard its great. Usually movies that try to tie several stories together fail miserably. It reminds me of a lot of the 80s movies that seem to be more for entertainment value than trying to be a really scary movie. You're the first person i've encountered that doesn't seem to like it all that much.

Ah, how come I never noticed this club before?

I'm in! I've been into horror films since the invention of the VHS. I acquired copies of Creepshow and Dawn of the dead when I was too young to watch them and I must have watched DOTD over a hundred times. Plus American Werewolf in London- even now I can watch it and titally remember all the dialogue...

I also studied films and wrote my dissertation on horror films, not that I'm an expert or anything, but I do love 'em.

So hard to find one that is actually scary though- the only one I can think of vaguely recently is Ju-on The Grudge. Even the remake wasn't bad but the original made me want to sleep with the lights on!

Anyway, let's have a stab at a top 15- I'm bound to miss some though....

The Exorcist
Halloween
Friday the 13th
Nosferatu
Cabinet of Dr Caligari
Ju-on The Grudge
The Ring
Dawn of the Dead ( all 3 are good but this is the best by far)
American Werewolf in London
Omen (all of 'em!)
Brain Dead
Hellraiser
Driller Killer
Alien
The Thing

OK, that's actually just the first 15 films I thought of that I like! So many great films.
Personally I like the oldies with proper prosthetic effects. CGI has killed the genre imho.
The Thing is a perfect example- the effects in that are probably the best ever.....

I watched Human Centipede the other night and enjoyed that- not the crappy Torture Porn I expected but quite artistic and very reminiscent of David Cronenbourg..

Anyway, I have work to do so TTFN..

Whenever DemonCole goes inactive I tend to take control a little, but as you can see there really hasn't been a need for it at all. The fact that I haven't watched a horror movie in several years really doesn't help the fact that I haven't been able to post here in a very long time.

There are a bunch of the free ones on demand, but I just haven't had time for them. I might watch something if I find any free time this weekend.

It looks like this club hasn't been active in a while, but I'd still like to join.

1. Silence of the lambs
2.Friday the 13th
3. Nightmare on elm street
4. Hellraiser
5. Child's play

7. Evil Dead
8. Scream
9. John Carpenter's Halloween
10. The Shining
11. Shaun of the Dead (Its a comedy, but it has plenty of gore)

I would honestly, really really love for this club to be revived. Come on, I live and breathe horror. I need this shit you guys!

If you won't do it for yourselves, do it for me :'(

Also, Halloween II was a pretty disappointing flick, as was the first. (we are talking Zombie here, right?)

I went to the second in theaters with my girlfriend at the time, and it was really cool then.
But then I think big picture, and really... All the kills are the same. If you're remaking a slasher flick to be more modern, be creative. Zombie wasn't, and (I believe) he even admitted in an interview that he made the 2nd Halloween flick, because he felt that he needed to. It's not that he wanted to, but needed to.

Which is understandable, it would have been retarded to not bring a sequel with it, but if he decides to do a third one I am going to be really surprised, and not happy.

However... The movie he is working on now seems really good, there's no trailer or anything yet as far as I'm concerned, but it's called Lords of Salem, and it sounds very promising. I have faith in Zombie's original works because House of 1000 Corpses and Devil's Rejects were two brilliant movies, hell - Even The Haunted World of El Super-Beasto was a good movie, it really took a lot of imagination to make that one I think.

Fuuuuuuck, I can't find this one movie.

Basically this guys grandfather (maybe dad?) died so him and his buddies go up to his grandads house and shit, and there's this bird spread virus or something going around that basically turns people into zombies and some other shit happens and they try defending the house from the zombies or something idk.

I think it was called bird flu.

Never heard of that, M-M.

I have heard of, and seen a bit of Marble Hornets, but honestly I have zero interest in it. It doesn't seem that good at all from what I've watched of it, so it's not something I'd keep up to date on to see if it gets better.

My younger brother showed me a few parts of the recent episodes and to me it seems like the same thing every time, I'm really surprised they still bother making it.

The last horror film I watched was Black christmas(1974). I felt genuinely creeped out by this film, which no horror film has really achieved since I was a little kid. It's a pretty basic premise about a serial killer going after a bunch of people, but this was also the first of it's kind, and practically started all the slasher film clichés, only that this one executes them much better than anything else has. It isn't just a stereotypical slasher movie villain running after a bunch of screaming idiots. There's no blood in this film and little violence, none of the kills are even shown properly, and the identity of the killer or what he looks like is never discovered by the audience. This leaves it up to imagination and effectively makes him a lot scarier. I recommend this to any horror fan who hasn't already seen it.

Response to The Horror Club 2011-08-18 23:44:43

Surprisingly I still haven't seen the original Black Christmas, but it's definitely on my list of movies to see before I die.

There's just so many horror movies, it's hard to keep up. Especially when I support independent horror movies and stuff, it's just like there's a new one out every week or so - I can never keep up with anything, music, movies, etc... It's far too much.

I really wish there would be a brand new awesome horror movie though. I think the two horrors I enjoyed in 2011 were The Rite and Stake Land.
Both not bad, but I always want something better.

Freaky, frightful, and ultimately gruesome (not grotesque) tales aspire.

I'm an animator, game developer, and horror writer (short stories published), who's pickled "combustible regrets" with a real scary horror film or book (McCammon, Koontz, King). "Fright Night" was eerie and good... Hoping for a good werewolf movie cause I love (no "Twilight") werewolves (vampires are kinda old)!

Future NG's animations (mine) will be (some) horror related (I still have a parody of "The Crazies" jiggling and jammed inside) so you might see some crazy soon).

I saw a preview for it when I was watching Louie. Although, I couldn't really tell from the preview if it looked good or not. I suppose I'll check it out since I like to watch plenty of horror stuff around Halloween and FX does usually have some pretty good shows.

I'm sure it will turn out as every other Halloween has the past few years.
I'll be drinking, my few friends will be doing drugs AND drinking. We will be drunk and stuff, give candy to kids, watch movies, maybe look around at the houses decorations and stuff (that's really my favourite part of Halloween).

I dunno. I really wish I was still young, I loved Halloween - Still my fave celebration, but all people my age do on Halloween now is get drunk...

I used to as a kid, my father still does. He is very slowly working on a story based on a werewolf. He's got a big obsession with them.
I wish he would keep writing, the prologue I read was great. He is a very talented writer.

Hell, I think I'll hang out for a bit.
I'm a big fan of horror manga, mainly because asian horror's often very weird and illusional. Haven't seen a lot of horror movies but I'm catching up slowly. I've never been a big fan of horror games but maybe I should give it more of a chance.

And since Halloween is coming up, I'll be watching a daily dose of horror movies that I've never seen before through the entire month of October. Starting today (:

It's October! That means it's time for the 31 Days Of Horror Challenge!

Last year the thread got pretty big, so we'll see if it's as popular on here this year.

So far I have only watched Evil Bong, and Evil Bong II - Tonight I will more than likely watch the third Evil Bong just to get them out of the way. They aren't necessarily horror flicks but in a sense they qualify. And I've only seen the 2nd, so this year is going good so far.

I haven't missed a day yet, hard to believe it's only October 2nd, feels like it should be the 3rd right now.

Either way, it's going to be a great month and I don't plan on missing any days this time around, last year I skipped a few.

Also I think you guys might want to check out this short film, it's only 15 minutes long (12:30 excluding credits), and it's full of awesome. My buddy saw it at a film festival last night and told me to look in to it, I did, and it's the greatest thing I've seen all day.

Check out, BRUTAL RELAX

It's meant to be online and isn't illegal, since it's a non-profit thing - So nobody give me shit for this.
Just enjoy it.

Response to The Horror Club 2011-10-02 16:54:48

I don't have time to watch a film every day, but I'll watch some on weekends and when I have my october vacation in a few weeks.

Response to The Horror Club 2011-10-02 17:40:16

I don't have the time actually to check all replies but are you talking about scary flash specially flash games?
I'm asking cause I took a spine off of this topic & made a club specially for scary games only ( no scary movies discussions in there ).
Is this okay ? or should I post every scary flash game in here & discuss it with you guys?

Now that I have Netflix and a used video store just a block away I think I'll be posting in this thread about every week. I'm also attempting to write and produce a B-Horror film. This by far use to be one of my favorite threads. Even though it hasn't been posted in a couple years perhaps we can get a few new members.
