The movie wasn't anything too great in my opinion. It was one of those movies that you might get a little creeped out if you are home alone and it's night time, but I don't even know if I would get scared then. That along with some really bad acting and some cheesy special effects (special effects that I could do in flash or adobe after effects probably) made it not such a great movie in my opinion.

There was a nice little twist at the end of the movie, which while generic, it was very appropriate and was a nice ending all around.

I'd give the movie a 6/10 give or take a point.

I really want to see that, because it was directed by Sam Raimi, the guy who made Evil Dead. I think it's funny that he's the same guy that makes the Spider Man movies. BTW, Sorry I missed u when you were posting during the summer, but I'm back to stay now! I'm going to see Saw VI today. I was going to go see Halloween 2 and The FInal Destination, but they're out of theaters. :(

30 Days of Night was very cool, but I didn't think I would want to watch The Mist. Looks like it would be really cheesy and not scary whatsoever. You said it was one of your favorites so could you tell me a little about it? Chances are I'm probably not going to go watch it, but if you recommend it and give me good reason to watch it then I might.

The Mist movie is actually one of the best made Stephen King movies ever in my opinion. While the plot may sound a little cheesy, a group of people trapped in a grocery store that's being besieged by monsters hiding in the mist that has enveloped the town...

The thing about it is though, the monsters usually take a back seat to the turmoil of the people trapped inside. Infighting, fear, it all drives the story. Bonds are made, people are driven apart, relationships are tested. It's actually quite well done. I also love the ending.

Also, Sixstring, I believe your thinking of "Night of the Living Dead" as Dawn of the Dead, even the original, was released in colour. Night was released in the late 60's... or early 70's. Can't quite remember. Dawn was released in 1978.

Basically, do you remember the folks trapped in a farm house or a mall?

The mist was really well made, and the story actually had me in suspense the entire movie, however the end was just frustrating! lol

Thanks. haha I was gonna point that out, but you had it covered already. lol

I just watched Lucio Fulci's film Cat in the Brain, in which he starred and directed. It had some pretty amazing gore scenes. Not a piece of Fulci's best work, but it is definitely worth a watch.

Cat in the Brain hmm? Never heard of that one. I'm pretty dull when it comes to Foreign Directors and movies.

Sorry I'm so late gettin back to u. haha If you want to broaden your horror horizen I'm the man to go to. Two really amazing Italian Horror directors who specialize in the cannibal sub genre are Ruggero Deodato(Cannibal Holocaust) and Umberto Lenzi(Cannibal Ferox). Deodato also is responsible for Jungle Holocaust, and the Last House on the Left rip-off House on the Edge of the Park. Umberto Lenzi also has done some work with zombie films. Lenzi started the Cannibal Sub genre. I would also like to introduce you to Dario Argento, who's made some very terrifying films, such as Suspiria, Phenomena, and Opera, and also Joe D'amato, the menace behind Beyond the Darkness & Anthropophagus. There are many more, but I don't want to push to much on you at once.

I could recommend some really amazing Asian horror directors to you if you want. The Guinea Pig set of horror films are the most gruesome movies ever made. They were banned and unreleased world wide for 15 years. Charlie Sheen was friends with an underground horror director, who showed him a film from this set, Flowers of Flesh and blood, and he called the FBI for fear that it was a snuff film. The FBI was convinced, and they actually checked up on the director to make sure that he didn't acutally kill the girl in the film. These movies are pretty insane! haha Anyways, hope this helps.

Ah the Italians. I've heard of the Cannibal Holocaust movie, though I've never seen it. I'm actually fairly vanilla in my horror tastes. I startle a little too easily, especially since I've gotten home. I like to explore in other mediums a bit as well. The Walking Dead comics are actually quite amazing.

Oh, I've heard of the Asian stuff. It's different from what I've seen. Pure gore isn't all I'm after though. Gotten enough of that in real life.

If you don't mind me asking what are you referring to when you said "since I've gotten home" and "Gotten enough of that in real life"?

Anyways, I've your not looking for something that is pure gore I'd suggest checking out Dario Argento. He's made some of the most important contributions to the horror genre, such as Suspiria. His movies do occasionally incude some pretty gory scenes, however they are well placed and never over used. His movies are very stylish, and he uses different color contrasts to build a delirious effect to the movie. Watching his movies have been compared to taking certain drugs. He really knows how to make a truly unnerving horror flick. He was very big in the 80s. He hadn't made anything in a long while, until the past two years. He's made two installments to the master's of horror films; Pelts and Jenifer, and he's made a Dimension Extreme film, Mother of Tears. Note: If you're not that big on films that center around their extreme gore scenes, then Mother of Tears would not be a good Argento film to start with.

Got back from a combat tour in Afghanistan about 6 months back.

Regardless, gore scenes don't bother me too much, its just when the movie is centred around it. If its used realistically and well I'm perfectly fine. But gore for the sack of gore, I don't need it.

I know exactly what you mean. I don't go by the same philosophy, however what your saying is completely understandable. I'll look into some movies that I think you'll really like.

I'm afraid that it's not there anymore. It was aken down on November 9th. As for other films I've seen, refer to my post about the 1987 version of 'The Stepfather'.

Yo man, I think you'd appreciate the film Christmas Evil. It is the funniest film I've ever seen. It can barely be called a horror film, since I spent the 95 min, running time laughing harder than I have in a while. It is just ridiculous, and some of the stuff that happens in that movie makes you want to hit the rewind button and watch it time and time again. A true classic. haha

Just watched Terminator Salvation. Twice actually.

Yes, not a horror movie, but if you really think about it then you can admit that it would be a scary situation. I loved it though as it really made you think a little with the whole Conner's father actually being younger then him because of the whole time travel situation.

I feel that there were many weak parts of the movie, but I won't go into much detail about that. Pretty good though so if you guys have the chance to watch it I suggest it.

Response to The Horror Club 2009-12-23 12:01:45

I just watched Black Christmas- classic. For it's time I think it really demonstrated the fundamental elements of a horror film, and especially when the credits rolled- I was in a bit of awe and fear myself.

Response to The Horror Club 2009-12-23 13:19:49

Oh yeah, and my top 15:

The Curse
Eraserhead
Ichi The Killer (not exactly a horror movie persay, but the brutality of it is pretty much enough to be as such)
28 Days Later
The Thing
The Mist
Cabin Fever
The Devil's Rejects
The Hitcher
The Hills Have Eyes
Feast (1, the rest sucked)
Evil Dead
30 Days of Night
Visitor Q (if that counts)
Dawn of the Dead

Pretty much I like all of them for the tensity and real rush from the movies, generally all of the ones I listed place a very good ambiance to get the viewer right into the situations. Either that or I chose it for the amount it's fucked up, see Visitor Q or Ichi the Killer.

For a fucked up movie, go see where you can get Eraserhead. Seriously, that movie is just the weirdest film I've ever seen, perhaps on par with Visitor Q. Go torrent both of them or Wiki them first or whatever, really.

Also, I don't know where it is these days (but it used to be on youtube), but the miniseries by David Lych called Rabbits is really weird and freaky. People dressed up in suits with a rabbit mask on them and laugh tracks out of place and in a very creepy environment. He's got some weird stuff, David Lynch.

I should have joined this club a long time ago, been watching horror flicks since I came out of the womb.
They're the best movies out there usually.

I'm always looking for new horror movies to check out, and expanding my movie library with horror.
Choosing favorites is tough for me, but the movies I really love are House of 1000 Corpses, and The Devil's Rejects... Out of the newer horror movies anyway, Rob Zombie's been doing a good job with his movies, even the Halloween remakes are good in my opinion. Anyway, I'll be coming here often from now on I'm sure... So hi.

I'm a big horror fan. Been one since I saw Nightmare on Elm street when I was about 7 and scared the hell outta me. No movie has scared me like that since.

Excited for Piranha 3D which is coming out soon.

Enjoying my night tonight with Fright Night.

"I kick ass for the lord!"

While I did enjoy the Halloween remakes I have to admit that I didn't really enjoy the House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects. I didn't find the movies scary at all and almost found them slightly boring.

To be honest I haven't found a movie that truly scared in a long time. Maybe I'll look for some movies to download when I get better internet at college though. I can't download movies on my current internet and don't really have money to throw around to rent or buy new ones.
