Hmmm yeah I agree with you up to a point. Slipknot were one of the first bands that got me into metal,, and then I went on to "better" bands, however I still like a few of their songs.

As for their lyrics, they do tend to suck greatly, but thats usually common in Nu-Metal, though similar lyrics can be found in Children of Bodom :P

Also as I see a few of you are black metal fans, can anyone reccomend a good album by Ancient Rites, I have Dim Carcosa and like that, so, any advice?

Personaly I think Bathory were the first recognisable as Black Metal Band. They merged venoms rock and roll black metal with the colder, darker atmosphere that black metal is known for nowadays. Not to mention them being hailed by bands like Darkthrone as the first true Black Metal band.

Old's Man Child... Dark Tranquillity.... are good.. but they aren't Heavy Black Metal... but still are ok!

lol, I love Children of Bodom, Have all their albums, However their lyrics are poor in general and have many parallels to say slipknots lyrics.

Well, I like CoB, Alexi is a great guitar player, but his vocals do kind of suck. You can live with them, but they are rarely good. i'd like to hear CoB with Kalmah vocals. That would rock.

The Amott brothers are amazing guitarsts, just listen to Micheal Amott's work in the grindcore band "Carcass". But I think Arch Enemy tops his work off. Whoever said that about "The Immortal" is right. Even though Johan Liiva wasn't a great singer.

Psh! Alexi's vocals suck? Never. I personally wouldn't like Children of Bodom as much as I do if his vocals were any different. Same with Norther or Burzum; I love the music, yes, but the vocals are key as well. Have to have both to have a winning combination, I think.

Not really. All the albums after Power Metal were the same genre and since before Cowboys From Hell they weren't that good so I personaly ignore the old albums and consider Pantera a good heavy metal band.

Not really. They had a pretty big Glam/80s metal sound for a while, then experimented with the speed/thrash sound we all know and love. Then they moved more into groove metal and ugh. *shrug*
